Just saw this as well. Not sure he was really a contender this year, but now he will need to battle through off track legal problems, as well.

Rossi went through a similar situation with the tax authorities in 2007. That was probably his lowest point. Who knows, maybe Pecco will be motivated, if he can escape justice.

Bagnaia clearly has a problem with alcohol. If I understand correctly Dorna does not allow racers with alcohol addiction, even if they are sober during races.
His non-drinker statement does not hold water.
Celebrating his victory, eh? It was over a week ago, you are still partying? This victory celebration is an excuse, an alcoholics excuse.
Non-drinkers do not drive if they happen to drink, they call a cab. In particular if their job depends on their license.
Non-drinkers, if forced to drive after drinking due to some extraordinary circumstances drive super carefully, they do not crash.
Nope, dear Pecco, you have a problem there. Not everybody is Kimi Räikkönen.

He's young and he has made a mistake.
Let's not attribute that to a substance addiction without significant further evidence.
I am sure he is now in significant trouble with his employer and it will not be repeated.

True, he is too young to have a serious alcohol addiction, he can put a stop on this if he wants. But the warning signs are there. And we know what happened to Barbera, he didn't stop after being caught first time.

Edit: BTW, you misunderstood me. I'm not condemning him. I'm merely observing and I see he has a problem. And my lie detector turned red. Lying is another sign of alcohol problem.

.... this dude with a rusty fishing knife. Drunk driving is a big no no. These guys have cab money. No excuse for this. I'd ban him for the rest of the season.
If Iannone got suspended for 4 years because of a dietary supplement then this irresponsible .... needs to go.

I watch him ride a motorbike fast.
He made a mistake.
I also recognise he is young and living his life under significant pressure.
Yeah not a great mistake to make and it could have been a lot worse an outcome.
There are going to be significant repercussions without wishing further on him.
Punishment is designed to correct behaviour.
I am tipping it will be corrected with the punishment which he will already encounter.

Let those without fault cast the first stone.

He made a mistake.

What you call a mistake? Getting into routinely drinking and driving or getting caught?

Or let me put it this way. Based on your life experience, which statement rings true?

A. I practically never drink but this Tuesday morning 5 AM I was too drunk to drive safely and I crashed.

B. I drink and drive all the time, nothing ever happened until this Tuesday morning I couldn't get out from that ditch fast enough and someone called the cops.

Iannone made the mistake of testing positive for an anabolic substance during the Rossi/Marquez/Lorenzo era.

If Dorna boots Bagnaia, they'll lose the other half of their Italian audience?

Yep. I used to hate it if I went out and people asked what I was drinking and I'd tell them orange juice or water and they's say 'Oh you can have 1 beer'.

I flat out refuse to drive if I've had alcohol. I'm not going to be that guy who had 1 drink then is involved in an accident and spend the rest of my life asking 'Had I not had that 1 drink, could I have reacted quicker/differently?'. .... having that on your conscience.

I've never been a drinker though. Interestingly a significant minority relate alcohol with machismo, which is hilarious.

Agreed. He will be in big trouble with Ducati and likely banned from driving in Spain? Along with the predictable grilling in the Thursday press conference.

Your last line reminds me of a joke.

Jesus sees a man about to get stoned and angrily runs up saying "Stop it!...let those of you without sin cast the first stone"

This huge great rock flies over, hits the man right on the side of the head, Wallop!.

Jesus says:

"Mother, sometimes you really piss me off!"

It takes some serious drinking to get to 0.87. It's a wonder he could find the car.

0.87 was when police got there at 5 AM. It must have been higher when he left the pub at 3. Young man's body can neutralize lots of alcohol in two hours, in particular if there is physical activity.

I have no evidence that he routinely drinks and drives.

I have also no concept of what sort of pressure he is under being the lead rider of a team that is spending a small forrune trying to win a championship.

He is however pretty young and doesn't have the life experience from which much wisdom comes.

Yes it was a big far cup but yes he will already be facing big repercussions.

I don't see it being repeated.
Should it be then yes, throw him out.

My condolences to you. Our success in this world depends on our ability to observe and assess, evaluate situations and people. This enables us to foresee what is going to happen to us and take precautions. You claim you do not have this ability. Your life must be real hard then, full of nasty surprises.
Only I think it really is not so. I think you are a Pecco fanboy and in this case you turn a blind eye to the reality.

You have really come out hard in this thread and I am struggling to understand why.

Without actual facts, history, medical reports, or any input from those closest to the subject, you seem to think you can impeccably diagnose a person and their proclivities.

.........

You are just another anonymous internet know-it-all whose opinion is no less valid than Warthog's.

Apply Occam's razor and I agree with Warthog.

Try selling your cod science elsewhere.

No judgement, but that seems a rather large quantity of alcohol for an athlete in a title fight, even at the beginning of the month long summer break.

Wow, what a rookie mistake. Any professional driver/rider should know better. Would like to hear his excuse for not getting a cab/uber/fan to drive him home. Interesting to see if there will be repercussions as this will no doubt conflict with the T&Cs of his contract.

How can you have a drinking habbit if you already crash with only 0.87?

With this little I still drive saver than 95% of all women

Funfact I once crashed a lambo in ibiza, but that was full flat out .... faced
