Austin MotoGP 2013 in jeopardy?

Without insulting anyone or taking any particular side, how much work did KS do on this project and how much $ is he asking for?

Tavo always struck me as a wheeler-dealer-PR-slimeball, and I wasn't particularly pained to see COTA attempt to screw him over.

I'd like to think Kevin is more deserving!

At any rate, who in their right mind will now dare to engage COTA in planning and contracting an event? The facility isn't even operational and already the owners have shot their credibility to hell. "Game over, Man!"

Hellmund / COTA lawsuit settled out of court:

http://austin.cultur...-drama-averted/

You can bet if it was settled out of court, Hellmund got his. Schwants case will be settled out of court as well, and he will get his. Take the money and leave that snakepit behind. Doesnt sound like people you want to be doing business with, and that includes Uncle Carmelo and Dorna.

COTA is denying there was ever a contract:

“It makes no sense for Mr. Schwantz to pursue legal action in this matter. We were informed by DORNA, the organization that holds the rights for the MotoGP racing series, that Mr. Schwantz has no contract to promote a MotoGP race in Texas,” Circuit spokesperson Julie Loignon said. “To be clear, Mr. Schwantz never had an agreement to conduct a MotoGP race at Circuit of The Americas, and to our knowledge, he has no agreement to conduct an event at any Texas racetrack. Perhaps, that is why he is reacting this way, out of embarrassment, and is making false claims to the court and media.

“We know race fans would love to see a MotoGP event at the Circuit, and it is good to know that the door is open to make that happen at our new world-class venue in Austin.”

Strangely, though, Dorna seemed to think there was one back in Apr2011. Here's Moto GP.com's announcement from back then:

http://www.motogp.com/en/news/2011/texas+gp+announced+for+2013

"Mr. Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, S.L. said: “We are delighted to be adding the Circuit of the Americas™ to the MotoGP calendar. It’s an honour to expand our Championship to Texas, which has a rich history of producing World Championship riders. We have had a wonderful and special relationship with Kevin (Schwantz) for 20 years and often talked about a mutual dream of increasing the popularity of MotoGP in the U.S. and raising our already successful worldwide profile. Now, with what Tavo Hellmund (Managing Partner of Full Throttle Productions) is doing in Austin, we have realised that situation and are looking forward to this new venture together. The ten-year agreement is a sign of our confidence and commitment to the future success of MotoGP racing in Austin.”

I was at the press conference for the announcement. The COTA boys were all smiles. Seemed like they thought there was a contract too.

I disagree with you more often than not, but this post I fully agree with.

Got to say that after witnessing all this money-grubbing fuckery, I'm not very keen on giving the COTA operators so much as a penny.

The whole thing has developed a stench to rival EffWun.

Wow. Great pics Tex. Good ..... I actually have a few friends going this weekend to check it out (they'll be in town for something unrelated, but plan on visiting the track just to see whats up as they are GP fans).

They've made serious progress. I'll still be amazed if they're complete by F1. I fully expect some serious issues for the event. Cutting way too close.

Either way, FU COTA for dicking around with GP.

Well, it's finally looking like a real racetrack. Now, will there be any worthwhile events?

I still say the last 6 or so corners are way too tight and constipated, particularly in comparison to the promising esses on the other side of the course. The layout is a mutant hybrid of the magnificent old Solitude Ring, forcibly mated with a modern Tilkedrome ........ like Indy or the A1 ring.

LOL....

Dorna wants to host a Race....and COTA own the circuit....the Promoter didn't get the contract with COTA, so they lost the contract with Dorna to promote the Race....

It seems pretty clear cut and dry.....unless Kevin S has evidence of a contract with COTA.... he will have to produce it now....

So the real questions is, 'how did that situation come about?'

It's hardly a reach to suppose that COTA never did negotiate in good faith with KS, and never had any intention of reaching an agreement with 3four. I've no idea how illegal that sort of behavior, in this context, really is, but it seems extraordinarily bad long-term business practice by the owners of an expensive public venue that presumably needs the help of promoters to organize future events.

To say nothing of pissing off many thousands of #34 fans world wide, many of which will think long and hard about buying a ticket from these jackals.

The Texas Oil Good Old Boy network - they screwed Tavo Hellmund in exactly the same way.

A good friend of mine is an oil guy, local to Austin and knows a few of the parties involved - he has a bunch of exotic bikes and cars as well - and he predicted exactly what has come to pass with F1 and MotoGP before the track was even started.

He got rich in the same, hyena-laden environment and knows how they all work. Think JR Ewing writ large. They have all the money they ever need, it is all about winning and doing the other guy out of his share - that's how they operate.

Could you possibly revert to the old avi?
