AMA Round 2 FONTANA (Spoilers)

My gosh, Jumkie actually said something. Hell, it has probably been a year since we had a post of that size from him.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (povol @ Mar 18 2009, 12:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>DMG went out of their way this year to keep fans from comparing times at Daytona by changing the courses that they ran last year. They wont be able to hide at Fontana.

They actually made some changes at Fontana. You remember that thread I posted of a friend being killed at a WERA race? Well they've made a few changes to that area. You'll find the article on roadracingworld.com (I think).

Thats 3 seconds slower than Supersport, not FX,

Ok, so then you are aware that DMG was trying to saying the opposite of reality regarding FX the new D SportBike. Cool, that what I was saying.

Wasn't everyone crowing about lack of safety? It looks like DMG have made things plenty safe; all of the bikes are significantly slower.

You know what the AMA needs? A million dollar shootout. Before you puke hear me out.

DMG/AMA need to host a semi-invitational million dollar shootout at Daytona in December when no other series are racing.

Make the purse 2 or 3 million with 1 million guaranteed for the winner. Make the event 2 weeks long. First week is qualifying for all the dreamers, then 3 or 4 days of testing for all of the invites, then final qualification and race.

Make the race for 600cc bikes with Daytona Sportbike rules for state of tune. Why? Because you probably aren't going to attract the WSBK frontrunners or GP front runners. However, you will attract tons of WSS, Moto2, European road racers, AMA, BSB, etc etc etc. Furthermore, you can field a Daytona Sportbike 600 and a crew for $50,000 through $100,000 for the week and the travel expenses. Plus, sponsors and manufacturers would certainly provide equipment and funds.

Hold the event on the weekend before Christmas so people can take an early holiday to see the race.

The AMA will have global publicity. As long as they don't pull any pace car stunts, people will watch.

If their contracts allowed,I guarantee you would see the top riders from every series show up for a chance at 1 million dollars.Thats more than over half the field in GP makes a year.I would hold it at a real race track though. If contracts didnt allow it,you can bet it would negotiated in the next one.

Big difference between 1 million for an entire season and 1 million for 1 race. But that is weird that a series would pay that kind of money and no one show up.There has to be some underlying reason that we are not aware off.

1,000,000 wouldn't even pay the bills to run a non-production race car for an entire season. Plus it's a one make series so manufacturers aren't competing for face time. Mainstream TV doesn't cover the series so sponsors don't care. It's also Mazda which have very little international racing presence in the main auto series.

Ferrari attract more amateurs in the Ferrari Challenge and I don't believe they pay anything.

I'm not sure the Atlantic Championship is a good indicator of the race-for-cash motorcycling crowd, but their failure has been duly noted.

Enough ........ about cars/open wheel Hayden fan, stop highjacking threads.

Ok, BTW, just an FYI Supermoto will be at Fontana as well, which will be cool. (I wonder if they plan on showing races on Pro Racing "Prime" Time? hahaha

Also, I'll be out at the track watching the practices today, if anybody wants to meet up PM me ASAP. Will be there all weekend too.

19. Dane Westby (Yam YZF-R6), 1:32.291
20. Damian Cudlin (Yam YZF-R6), 1:32.402

Almost 4 seconds off last years SS times on a faster track. They did modify the track since last year but times should be faster. They took a kink out of the back straight that had a dip in it and caused head shake and made it a straight shot in between those turns.

And DMG must be happy

The DMG Buell is up front, what a suprise.

Yep, I was worried that Buell would be better at other venues.

The bike has massive power. I'm sure DMG justify it because the bike also has ridiculously bad drag. Daytona is about 70% banked straights so the Buell appears to be equal at Daytona. Fontana also has a long banked straight so the Buell may be even better than it appears now

Still, you have to be on guard. If you were running a Japanese bike, you have incentive to sandbag it.

And then just decimated the field in Super Pole

Should have told him Tom said he is overrated.

Let the firestorm begin. The Buell DOMINATED the day

1 Danny Eslick Daytona Racing/RMR Buell Buell 1125R
2 Jamie Hacking Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R

4 Jason DiSalvo M4 Suzuki Suzuki GSX-R600

13 Barrett Long Paradigm Racing Yamaha YZF-R6
14 Christopher Fillmore CF Racing Yamaha YZF-R6
15 Shawn Higbee Higbee-Racing.com Buell 1125R

Top finishers Eslick and Hacking were taking little jabs at each other in the post-race press conference. After the question was asked about what would it take to beat the Buell, Hacking commented that the biggest middleweight Kawasaki has is a 636, clearly making reference to the large displacement Buell.

Then Eslick jumped in and made mention of all the other Buells in the field that didn't finish up with them, effectively saying it wasn't as much the bike.

Eslick had a six second lead on the last lap and had time to do some victory wheelies along the way.
