DSB title is in the bag to Eslick, thanks to something you hardly ever see, a blown engine. This is the second mechanical Herrin has had this year, Graves looking bad.

IF, Blake Young wins the title, he owes Tommy Hayden big time. Yesterday, i saw fight in Tommy i have never seen. He was passed 3 times in the last 2 laps and kept fighting back to eventually take the win, preserving Youngs championship lead. Ironically, Young nipped Roger Lee from behind to grab 3rd. Instead of what looked like a win for Hayes and a 4th for Young, it was a 2nd for Hayes, and a 3rd for Young. Huge points flop in the last lap.Its down to the 2 races at NJ

Yes, we need a thread for this one. Racing was really fun to watch. Eslick's move around the outside of Beaubier and Disalvo on the way into Andretti was amazing. Happy to see Tommy get an SBK victory at Laguna as well. Rare display of aggression when Hayes duffed him up with some late passing. Too bad for Roger losing drive out of the final corner.

DSB is in the bag for Eslick, and I'm happy for him. He's probably the one guy who is happy VIR is cancelled. SBK is down to the wire. Tommy really needs to win the last 2 races, but his job will be finishing in front of Hayes and behind Young (unless Young is out of contention). Hard to believe Tommy is out of the championship race b/c of one blow up at Barber. That's how tight it has been. Growing tired of the bonus points too. I want Hayes to win, but I don't like that he is only 5pts out b/c he has outscored Young by 14-4 on fastest laps and pole positions. Regardless of whether or not Hayes wins, he needs to double at NJMP b/c he trails both young and Hayden in wins.

Solis made everyone look stupid in Supersport. Ran off when he hit backmarkers, still won by over 8 seconds.

I dont mind it, they all know the points are there for the taking. Its almost like they have conceded those points all year to Hayes, which was a big mistake. All Hayes has to do is finish ahead of Young in the final 2 races to win the title, that is unless they are fighting each other in places they have not been all year. RLH could be a spoiler, his performance of late has been impressive. Solis is head and shoulders above the competition, DSB, here we come. Or is it, Moto2, here we come. Not sure if he's old enough?

Benny kicked ... all weekend ! And he had a major mob shouting for him ! There was no rider and i mean no rider ( rossi included ) which had a crowd moving as one all over the circuit that was 30 people deep !!!!

American Honda should step up right now and sign this kid. Hardly anyone rides a CBR600RR in stock classes, im not sure why he does, but he is taking a bike that is NOT the weapon of choice and kicking ... and taking names. He has paid his dues, it would be a shame for him to have to keep paying his own way.

With only 1 more race and it being an east coaster, does this mean Benny's season is over. I know he was only contending mostly west coast rounds. It would be a shame if that is the case.

Graves new prodigy who took Benny's spot turns 16 in August so he will be racing at New Jersey. That kid looks like the strongest prospect we've seen in years. I would love to see Benny race agains't him

Do you mean other than Benny?

Yes, the West Coast title went to David Gaviria #700. The DNFs at Daytona and Miller killed Benny's title. Close but no cigar. But at this point, there is a bright future for Benny next year.

I totally agree! And I think he will be rewarded...

Care to expound

I've been sitting on these for a while. Some of you may have read them, some not. Long time til the next round so it seems like this is as good a time as any to look at these op/eds and interviews.

An interview from Ray Blank, aka El Diablo, regarding his discontentment with AMA Pro Racing rule and regulations. He also gives inside info regarding the Benny Solis deal with Road Racing World and how Benny ended up on a Honda.

LINK

This is the response from RRW. Same as most op-eds from RRW, passionate and scornful of anyone who disagrees.

LINK

Regarding the Ray Blank interview, it is exactly as I had suspected. American Honda aren't going to race unless they control the rulebook. DMG paid a portion of the $12M for the rulebook, and they aren't about to give it to the OEMs for free. I'm sure AMA Supersport (or the lack of proper Supersport) is also a sticking point.

I loved how he went back 20 years to show how marvelous todays showroom stock bike is compared to a full on race bike of yesteryear. That is true, but we are talking 20 ....... years. Its funny that he would do that since people like me have shown our refusal to pay 5-600 bucks on a race weekend for something we had seen 10 years earlier.

It sounded like he was saying, yea, these bikes are basically stock, but hey, stock is so much better now, you shouldnt care, we are matching lap times from full on race bikes from the 90's.

That doesn't bother me too much. The manufacturers wanted to race stock bikes which meant they were going to hot up the bikes. If organizers let 1000cc engineers swap cams, alter compression, and use racing fuel, the bikes gain another 20% horsepower. There are exceptions, of course. Some of the stock bikes have such high rev ceilings and such advanced electronics and air flow tech (e.g. S1000RR) that the stock bikes are nearly as powerful as AMA SBKs, but the AMA SBKs are still more technologically advanced even if they have the stock or slightly modified stock components.

My frustration is with the remarks about torrent sites. Torrent sites are keeping racing alive as the organizers seek to reduce convenience and move media behind pay-walls in order to increase bargaining leverage with TV companies and track owners. Torrent sites are keeping international and national racing series from committing suicide by abusing antiquated business models and obsessing about pay-walls. Organizers slash their right wrists, and torrent sites hook up the I.V. Without torrent sites, WSBK and MotoGP wouldn't have nearly as many fans or as much exposure. Someone needs to explain the 4C's of modern marketing theory to race organizers. Inconveniencing your fans in highly competitive markets is instant paralysis and death. Entertainment is cutthroat.

Organizers need one hell of a show if they expect people to drive 4 hours and drop $500 bucks for tickets, travel, and lodging. When they deliver something below customer expectations, they shouldn't take pot shots at the torrent sites. Nobody blames SpeedTV for keeping fans at home. In fact, the participants refuse to race without TV coverage. Torrent sites and streaming TV sites are even more useful and convenient than TV coverage. Innovate or get lost. Same thing applies to DMG as it does to Dorna. These business fossils are going to be the death of our favorite past times.

So I've been trolling around, and talking to some people who know more about the goings on of AMA competition than I do. Apparently, there is a fresh rumor that Mladin wants to come back and compete in the AMA. I know Mladin rumors circulate every season, but I've been told this one has more punching power than previous gossip.

Anyone heard anything about this? Jumkie, you are closest to the paddock. Have you heard anything about this? I've also heard a bunch of jabbering about BMW wanting to win their second AMA SBK title (first since title since 1976). I don't know if the two rumors are related.
