So an interesting bit of news on the broadcast prior to the sprint race, Pramac do not have a deal for 2 factory GP25 bikes next season, and nothing has been signed. This leaves the door open for Gresini to get that GP25 next year for Marc, however they only have 1 year left on their deal with Ducati. So they really could not offer Marc more then a 1 year deal, and I am not sure he would go for that.

I would think in theory they could hammer out an extension with Gresini to take the Ducati deal to the end of 2026? Maybe that is what will ultimately happen.

He is not doing anything so far this weekend to allay the fears the Ducati Corse sponsors apparently have that he might win the title on a GP25 riding for Gresini and garner most of the attention that might otherwise accrue to them. I don’t think Audi for one would care though.

This is a good point. Gresini and their sponsors are reaping untold benefits from him being on their Ducati. But I think Ducati are reaping quite a bit of benefits which at the end of the day I would feel should sit well with Audi as you mention. I did see a tweet that said Marc isn't exactly out of the running yet for the factory Ducati seat. Not sure what to make of that. But I'd love to see him win the title with Gresini as it'd be a nice story and a hell of a comeback from losing Marco Simoncelli all those years ago.

Yes, I doubt Audi motorsports who are a main sponsor of Ducati Corse would be at all perturbed by a Gresini Ducati rider wiinning.

The likes of Lenovo the naming rights sponsor and Monster Energy might not be quite so sanguine however.

After watching today’s race at Mugello the choice of who will be with Bagnaia on big red next year could well come down to personalities. Why take the chance and maybe upset the balance of the team that they’ve already achieved? Pecco gets on with Enea and will see him as a great team mate especially after today. You want a great number 1 and a good 11/2 to make a team work well and we know Martin would kill to be no1 but does Ducati need the threat to Pecco he would bring with him. Pecco is looking imperious and Enea is not far off it, if he’s well liked by all the team let sleeping dogs lie imo.

Keeping Enea means risk losing both Jorge and Marc.

I think if you are Gresini a 1 year extension is not going to be enough, they need to have a deal that carries them into the next generation of MotoGP machines. I dont expect Ducati to field 8 GP27s in 2027.

That’s my point. Do Ducati really need them with the risks to a harmonious team spirit they could bring? It’s only for two years before all bets are cancelled anyway.
Jorge will go to Aprilia with a chip on his shoulder and ride like a demon and Marc will undoubtedly land on his feet, probably at Ktm/gasgas.

I get your point, however racing is also a business, the attention your teams gets ultimately translates to money. Although Ducati have the current champion, Marquez still commands the most attention in this sport.

Yes,he does to aficionados of our sport but to the general population it’s still probably Vale. But if he does get the most ‘likes’ which translates to money why are Duc prevaricating about the situation? Imo Pecco is getting even better this year so am just thinking why upset the applecart which Jorge or Marc undoubtedly would.

I kinda agree with that, while the 24 Duc may be the best bike on the grid the 23 Duc probably the second best bike on the grid, so the notion that either or both Jorge or Marc going to KTM or Aprilia possibly the 3rd and 4th best bikes on the grid and being a threat to the championship is remote. That's assuming of course the 25 Duc and 24 Duc will be the best on the grid.

Outside of Marc, the other GP23 riders haven't shown to be consistently better than the Aprilias or the Acosta/KTM duo; they've been firmly midpack. A washed up rider like Morbidelli can now battle for the top 5 on a GP24.

Paddock rumour is that it'll be Pecco + Martin on the factory red, with Bastianini wanted as a possible Pramac rider, alongside Aldeguer, if Marc can't be convinced to move from Gresini.

Morbidelli's form has come as a reminder of his ability. That is not good news for Diggia, who could potentially lose his seat at VR46 to him if he keeps this development up.

Pit has some difficult choices to make over the summer as well. The orange team is set with Acosta and Binder, while the red team is potentially vacant with both Jack and Augusto on the bobble. Will they take a risk on Sergio Garcia? Will they wait on David Alonso? Unfortunately both Oliveira and Raul Fernandez have left KTM, so maybe Diggia could be a rider they could opt for in red?

Yeah i agree, i see that coming

Mafia VR46 could achieve this replacement of Morbido even if I find he deserves more than Diggia to be here. I always didn't understand how he jumped in premier class category, he has never dominated Moto2 but anyway, his fate is similar to Marini, his superior bike makes him stronger than he really is

Morbidelli was only a few points off being crowned world champion in 2020. You aren't a bad rider, if you can climb so high, no matter the season.
He is also a Moto2 world champion, winning the 2017 season in style. He competed against Oliveira, Marquez the younger, Bagnaia, Nakagami, Binder, Quartararo, Marini.

After he broke his leg, his career fell off a cliff. He has begun to show that he is good. Not world champion good, but top half good.

In regards to the debate as which bike to be on if you can't land a GP24 and doing a bit of analysis of the results for each type of bike, leaving out the top rider to avoid "Alien" results and leaving out the bottom rider to avoid "Disaster" results we see the following;

2024 1st 7 rounds Results 2nd and 3rd riders
GP24 2nd/153, 4th/114
KTM 7th/85, 16th/27
Aprilia 8th/82, 12th/32
GP23 9th/74, 10th/51
Honda 19th/9, 21st/8
(Yamaha only has 2 bikes - 13/32, 20th/8)

When analysing this way it looks like the GP23 is more consistent than the KTM or Aprilia, however a rider can be pretty much as competitive on KTM or Aprilia as they would be on the GP23

In other words, the aero developed bikes are good.

So once the japanese crack the airflow code, they'll return with a bang!
:)

(me hopes, simply for the sake of racing)
