That Fabio - is stuck on the Yamaha for another season is so depressing. Luckily, he's only 24, so has room to bounce back. Would love to see a few more seasons with him on a competitive bike.
I would like to be a fly on the wall in the Yamaha and Honda boardrooms where senior company management on high discuss whether it is worth it to pursue participating in MotoGP going forward (after 2024).

Is the juice worth the squeeze ?

Totally. It wouldn’t be so bad if Fabio wasn’t world class. If it was Mav I would not be concerned.
Fabs needs to step up his representation and Yamaha needs to step up their game or let him go somewhere else. Of course, I am aware there are few places to go and the Yamaha maybe not as bad as the Honda but it seems to be bad enough.

I’m losing patience with the way MotoGP is going. Local flat track looking a better place for me to spend my racing fandom these days

I tend to go along with Lex’s line of thought, that Honda at least are waiting for the new formula and not prepared to expend large money on the dying days of this formula, particularly since they would probably need to design a new engine to really prosper in the current formula, and are unkeen on aero etc.

I'm thinking beings Marquez has not signed with anyone yet that KTM have been pushing again for more grid slots, their argument being he deserves a factory bike which they would give him with the extra grid slots.
 

It has been pointed out to me by sponsorship/marketing specialist Lyla Oakes that Oliveira already has a contract with British petroleum firm BP. Breaking out of that contract could be more expensive and more difficult than getting out of the Aprilia contract. It is unthinkable he would be able to keep his BP deal riding for Repsol Honda, and Repsol have already indicated they intend to stick with Honda for 2024..
If this is true, then Repsol Honda is in trouble for next year. Snatching Maverick is also not feasible and not what either party needs. Cecchinello may be sure that Zarco will ride for LCR next season, but Honda will probably "convince" him to change his mind, otherwise we'll have to entertain the prospect of Lecuona or one of the Moto2 riders riding in Repsol colors (and as ridiculous as that sounds, we already had Alex Márquez in a similar situation in 2020). Of course, Repsol Honda could just pony up the money to break both the Aprilia and BP's contracts.
 
This is honda's own fault for not being prepared for the likelihood of MM leaving. They need someone who can help them rebuild. Zarco ain't it. Mav ain't it. Olivera maybe I'm not sure. They don't need to replace Marc they need someone who can help steer them in the right direction. They still have Mir, he is their champion. They need someone who can help him win. They should have went after Miller when KTM was still looking for a seat for Pedro.
 
Yeh sponsorship makes it complex. I recall something with Crutchlow, I think HRC wanted to borrow him from LCR but it couldn't be done because Crutchlow was sponsored by the wrong brand of soft drink, I mean energy drink :)
 
Honda had all their eggs in the MM basket for years and it worked fantastically...................................................................until it didn't.
When you have a golden goose its not a bad idea. I've said before that ducati is ducatis worst enemy. They take points away points from Pecco nearly every weekend. If they didn't have 600 good bikes on the grid the championship would be pretty much wrapped up. As for Honda, they don't need to replace Marc they need Mir to be that person. I don't think to highly of him but he is a world champion.

That's a good point about Ducati and rhetorical question alert but how is it even fair when determining the constructor's championship? How could they not win?
Mir is not the guy. Hell, Lorenzo wasn't the guy. Pol thought he was the guy but that didn't last long.
 
Interestingly, I have read that a condition of Marc's split from Honda is he cannot talk about his new team or bike until after the season ends.

Apparently the deal is already done.
