Crafar thinks Marc is sandbagging a little because he was going wide in the last corner all the time.
And I think he is sandbagging because he is slower than his brother on the same bike.

We shall see I guess. He did say before the test it wasn't a favorite track, and perhaps the multi-year fractured humerus saga may have convinced him that trying to prove things to other riders with no points gain involved is not such a great idea.

Then again it is also possible I guess that what made him great doesn't work as well on an aero bike.

I’d agree and am not taking this test to seriously as others are doing the same. There’s no way Mav would be a full second down on Aliex and MM .5 sec on his brother.

Puts a tingle in my dingle !
You got me here. Don't have a clue what it means lol. Sounds like weird though.

I don't buy this ..... Sandbagging nowadays in MGP serves no purpose. You need to go to the limit in several laps to test and practice a lot of things. Maybe MM didn't put a soft fresh tire but sandbagging for what? What has he been saving hiding his true performance?

Marquez ran a 1:58.2ish in his best lap. But he never put softs on either. 1.58.2 would have him qualifying in the top 10 of the race last year. Everyone does seem to be going faster on day 2 than they did last year at the GP so who knows really.

Yeah he wasn't ...... over by Dorna multiple times, whether purposefully or not, that denied him having a real chance for winning more than 2. He did only win 2 world championships. No ....... ambition at all. Moved halfway across the world as a 14 year old, with next to no financial backing to become a motorcycle racer, if he had ambition he would have waited until he was 17 or 18 and had a heap of financial backing to move, or he would have just stayed where he was comfortable at home and dominated.
You say so as if only Stoner had made all that in his career. That's the life of EVERY professional rider, since kid. It's not a thing exclusively for him.

Sure. The list of riders who have been booed, spat at and generally reviled for winning a world title is probably considerably shorter though.

He may be, he may be not. But my recollection of him is not someone who lights up the winter testing timesheets, ever. Maverick Vinales is the winter testing champion over the last 10 yrs, but he has done very little in terms of results.

I have yet to watch ATF but according to MichaelBolton, Crafar says Marc was running wide at the last corner. It's easy to go on the limit for the entire lap and lose half a second running wide on one corner. ...., I've done that more times than I remember in my racing career. He hasn't put a fresh soft tyre in like was said.

In answer to your final question, a lot. This is the biggest rider market move in MotoGP, EVER (many journalists have said it is bigger than Rossi's move to Yamaha), there is a lot of hype surrounding arguably the greatest talent of his generation hopping on a competitive (be it a yr old) bike. Other posters have reminded us of when Stoner was utterly dominant in 2012 preaseason testing, to the extent that the tyre rules were changes to hamper Honda and himself.

Marc has always known the politics of the sport and played them well.

It's all in a day's work, mate. Deal with that or leave. He chose to leave. 💁‍♂️

I feel so sorry for Stoner, I think he has his own demons like any naturally talented sportsman. But because of the politics and Rossi fanbase in MotoGP, we lost many years of seeing his genius at work.

I met him briefly in the paddock in Silverstone 2010. I simply said "I know you don't like a large protion of the fandom so I wont keep you but know there are a lot of people who deeply admire your skills, and I'm sorry you have to deal with the ....... Rossi fans"

He was on a scooter with his Mrs, both chuckled and he said thanks.

Stoner is an antisocial guy, maybe he has some degree of autism or something like that.

Our most prolific poster back in the day who was definitely no Stoner admirer met him driving out of Laguna Seca with his wife and had a similar encounter, probably with no prologue from Roger in regard to the iniquities of Rossi fans though.

Anyway, this is all nearly 2 decades ago, back to MM who was very definitely unabashed by the dislike of Rossi fans, or Rossi himself for that matter, and whether he is up to the challenge on an aero bike of quite a number of talented young riders currently in the premier class.

All in a day's work for which premier class world title winners exactly ?. Stoner proved what he wanted to prove and indeed left, while Rossi who indeed had absolutely no need to prove anything to anyone went on for more than a decade after his last title and mainly proved that he had a strong sense of entitlement and that it was not just an element among his fandom who had a soccer hooligan mentality. He did rather prove that winning races on an 800 Ducati was rather hard to do though.

Stoner being brought up on the forum always stirs up the feistiness. I like it!

The beast looks to be back on pace. I said last year the 2023 ducati was not as good as the 2022. First reason was how many riders won on the 2022. Also the way Enea fell off pace. Which he seems to have found again on the 2024. The new duc seems to be really good. Hopefully Enea can smoke the other 2024 ducs this year.

Exactly. Casey left on his own terms. Told everyone to .... off in his retirement presser and left. I can respect that. Rossi on the other hand stayed because he loved the limelight. He would do anything to win including send his rabid fans on a witch hunt after other riders. He didn't stay because he loved racing. He continued to do it like an addict who can't stop using.

Things might be shaping to be like in 2022 where the official Duc and Pramac ran different specs. Apparently Jorge is not quite happy with the new fairing and is thinking about going into the new season with the old one. Ducati wants Jorge/Pramac to go with the new one. Tomorrow they will give it another go and decide:
