Great ride by Rins. Amongst all the fanfare of a championship he was forgotten. Suzuki improved on last year's motegi result.

Yes, he rode really well. And Suzuki apparently trust him to lead the direction of their bike. They might be even further along without his injury.

SPOILER

I've just read Quartaro has lost his P1 due to having a low pressure in his tyres, outside of legal limits? Wtf?

1.4bar is the minimum, his tyre was 0.01 below that and apparently the tyre sensor thats fitted to all the machines showed that it was under pressure all race.
I feel for him poor guy.

Another title for the best rider on the grid. AD fought valiantly, but MM would be happy that he finally broke his resolve. Next year won't be so easy though.

Suzuki have been consistently strong in the last few races. They're clearly moving in the right direction and have surpassed Yamaha. Marquez would be winning on that bike.

Cal is putting together some decent results.

Yamaha got embarrassed in front of the guys at Japanese HQ. Maverick did a Maverick again and disappeared with no trace. Great to see Zarco find his mojo again too. Yamaha need to decide whether they are there to attend, or there to compete.

I would see Stoner as having greatly outridden the intrinsic capability of the bike rather than being mistake prone whilst at Ducati, but while he might have gone close to MM in a single season in his best form no way was he the complete package MM has proven to be. MM seems to be absolutely indomitable.

Stoner looked no different on the Repsol Honda...

I wonder what Marquez would've felt if he came up against Stoner - someone with quite possibly even more raw talent and raw speed, if less pure racecraft.

AD has put up a bit of a fight lately but just had too much ground to make up after the run of races following Qatar. Think that's where the damage was done.

Totally agree about Suzuki. Beginning to look a decent package but will be interesting to see how they get on with losing their concessions. Winter tests will be even more important this year. Yamaha look like they are trying their best to get those concessions for themselves.

I'm wondering if Yamaha are regretting giving MV another 2 years so quickly and letting Zarco head to KTM. Especially since one looks interested again and one couldn't look less interested.

Maybe I'm all wrong. I think Stoner never learned how to make good use of TC. I think his competition caught up with him because the electronics got better all the time and Stoner's pure talent and right wrist lost its advantage. More, I think if by a miracle all TC would be banned from MotoGP then there would be nobody to get close to Stoner. BTW, remember, when Rossi took over Stoner's bike he was shocked by Ducati's TC. It is inferior, he said, it needs rapid development. Didn't bother Stoner a bit ...

MV seems like a headcase to me. Almost unbeatable when he feels good, 10th when he doesn't.

He just seems to need everything perfect to be fast. The full load of fuel destroys his race almost every weekend. I think both he and Valentino need a better bike than the rest of the grid to be able to fight for a championship and with Ducati, Honda and Suzuki stepping their game up the best they can hope for is a bike on equal terms which IMO won't be enough for them.

No they were right in sticking with MV, its Rossi they need to ditch. This is Suzuki's 4th season back, so they really need to be getting better. I think next year watch out for the KTM's, 2 years at this level and they are doing ok, next year will be the one to watch.
I don't think Yamaha could have held onto Zarco, he looks pissed off with them.

I think Marquez would relish the challenge Casey Stoner would bring.

We were all short changed that these two never met on track.

Some great pics from MArquez championship winning season.

I was hoping for a pic of the moment he went through the gravel strewn track full sideways, full throttle. I forget the track, but remeber it was a right hander, Alvaro? i think was the crasher the lap previous whom left the gravel on race line.

For me, that was the moment of the year.

I don’t think race craft was a problem for Stoner, he rode the Ducati the only way it could be ridden, and the way he rode it was close to impossible according to no less than Valentino Rossi and Jerry Burgess.

No one including Stoner has shown the ability to ride right on the edge of the TC and make miraculous saves as MM does I agree though.

For me the main superiority MM has over Stoner is one of temperament. The things which made the sport unenjoyable for Stoner and led to his retirement appear to just make MM stronger. Stoner had to really wind himself up to ride as he did in 2007 and 2011, well nigh perfectly IMO, but racing is as natural as breathing for MM.

I think Stoner was supremely talented, but lacked the drive MM has. If Casey had that drive he would have hung around longer than he did. MM has a drive to win that CS never had. Don't get me wrong, Stoner had immense talent, but he never utilized it fully. He has two titles to show for it, but always felt he left titles on the table.

I rank MM higher than CS at this point which is no small feat. But at this point MM is clearly the superior rider. He forced Lorenzo and Rossi into crashing out in 2016 at Motegi, then did the same think to Dovizioso in 2018. He doesn't have a superior bike, but he makes it work for him. Makes me wonder how Lorenzo is going to do on that bike since it's less stable than the Desmosedici. He may take well to it, or he may take time to gell with it. I don't think MM has any fear of having Lorenzo in the garage with him.

Absolutely.

MM appears to be wired like Rossi in his heyday, except for probably being even more talented and apparently not feeling any need for off track games,

He'll have to change his riding style if he has any hope of challenging MM.

Dovi did the only thing that made sense and gave it all. It didn't end well, but that's racing ;) it's not like he could have stopped MM from winning this title after all :D

If there hasn't been any title contention this year is simply because Marquez is from another planet, and while I obviously do prefer to watch a contended championship, I certainly enjoy admiring his unbelievable skills. Kudos Marc!

my 2 cents are that 5 top class titles in 6 years say enough. None of his current competitors can challenge MM, whatever bike they get their butt on.

Any hypothetical future trouble for MM could only come from a new kid coming up from the lower classes, which might take several years, even tho as of now I don't see anyone who could become THAT fast in the future.
