In a word - interesting.

The top 4 are, as one would expect again the top 4 irrespective of their respective machine changes.

But it is the remainder that are of interest and none moreso for me than Spies who has produced a performance that with the race has be feeling (well - confident) that he will be fighting the top 4 on a regular basis in season 2010.

The second point that seems to show up is that the 'factory supported' Tech3 is a majorly different bike to that of the 'Satellite bike' as Edwards is well behind the pace of Spies who is on the factory spec machine (if rumours when signed are correct). To me, the lap time difference here does reflect on the Toseland discussion of other threads as CEii is near 0.5 seconds behind Spies - an interesting discrepancy given the race results.

As for the rest, well teh rookies are about right as they need to learn and again we see Suzuki in need of a factory enema.

Ah well, lets see what future tests bring

A Factory Enema.......very sad for CV to go out like that, Loris up the back is also a shame, time for the big 'S' to shape up or ship out!!

i thought it would be interesting tp compare 2008 vs 2009 tests:

2008:
1. Casey Stoner, Ducati Marlboro Team - 1´32.464
2. Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda - 1´32.672
3. Valentino Rossi, Fiat Yamaha Team - 1´32.921
4. Chris Vermeulen, Rizla Suzuki MotoGP - 1´33.142
5. Loris Capirossi, Rizla Suzuki MotoGP - 1´33.325
6. Alex De Angelis, San Carlo Honda Gresini - 1´33.375
7. Jorge Lorenzo, Fiat Yamaha Team - 1´33.550
8. Andrea Dovizioso, Repsol Honda - 1´33.676
9. John Hopkins, Kawasaki Racing Team - 1´33.760
10. Marco Melandri, Kawasaki Racing Team - 1´33.782
11. Randy De Puniet, LCR Honda MotoGP - 1´33.832
12. Nicky Hayden, Ducati Marlboro Team - 1´33.960
13. Toni Elias, San Carlo Honda Gresini - 1´34.129
14. Sete Gibernau, Onde 2000 Ducati - 1´34.451
15. Mika Kallio, Alice Team - 1´34.793
16. Olivier Jacque, Kawasaki Racing Team - 1´34.925
17. Niccolo Canepa, Alice Team - 1´34.995
18. Yuki Takahashi, JiR Team Scot Honda - 1´35.203

2009:

1. Stoner (Ducati) 1.32.660
2. 2. Lorenzo (Yamaha) 1.32.685
3. 3. Rossi (Yamaha) 1.32.826
4. 4. Pedrosa (Honda) 1.33.068
5. 5. Hayden (Ducat) i 1.33.358
6. 6. Spies (Yamaha 1.33.496
7. 7. Dovizioso (Honda) 1.33.675
8. 8. Kallio (Ducati) 1.33.726
9. 9. De Puniet (Honda) 1.33.775
10. 10. Melandri (Honda) 1.33.830
11. 11. Espargaro (Ducati) 1.33.878
12. 12. Edwards (Yamaha) 1.33.929
13. 13. Capirossi (Suzuki) 1.34.144
14. 14. Simoncelli (Honda 1.35.229
15. 15. Bautista (Suzuki) 1.35.772
16. 16. Barbera (Ducati) 1.36.204
17. 17. Aoyama (Honda) 1.37.964
18. 18. Noyes (Promoracing) 1.38.654
19. 19. Wilairot (FTR) 1.39.815
20. 20. Olive (Promoracing) 1.41.989

the most interesting thing to me is spies vs Lorenzo 2008-spies may be a fully pledged alien, he may not just be a mixed race or abtucty, but i suspect he may be from the same planet as the top 4. ah only time will tell, lets see if team marco improve by much today. Ducati and Honda seemed to have gone backwards from last years times-maybe testing engine reliability

Sorry Garry, I'm not getting the link to the discussion regarding JT that you are alluding to... can you elaborate?

I may again be putting words in gaz's mouth when he is more than adequately eloquent on his own behalf, but he may be suggesting that edwards being the yamaha signed rider rather than the tech 3 contracted rider like JT had a technically superior bike in 2009, but is now in the reverse position with regard to ben spies as of yesterday.

Ahhh, now I get it - I didn't click in to the contractual differences... wonder if we'll hear anything from JT in the future...

Rossi makes me laugh, he's so lazy, when he's not racing he lies in bed all morning-you rarely see him join the testing before mid day-saying that cant see lorenzos name on their either

Aye,I noticed that too,mate.

Just watched some vids on motogp.com. Spies said he is on jt's bike with his setup from the race, he is alien! Someone asked about the ducati and it for sure sings a new song. It sounded good, but the video of the 6's holy .... I cant wait to see them race those ........ ....... screammers with a snap crackle pop when they let off the throttle. I am really looking forward to next season!

Hey jumkie, can we buy our suite tickets yet? No. How about now? Still no. Now? How about now? Now?

i think its conclusive-Spies is an Alien

32.9 is quick if its still the same conditions as race, although judging by lorenzo/stoner times the track may have heated up and the wind died down.
i wouldnt read into Rossi's times as he will be testing all kinds of random things whereas Spies will be just getting the fastest set up he can find, i believe lorenzo is testing new brakes.

haha i doubt rossi is crying yet (he probably is curious and concerned a bit tho), spies is still a second off lorenzo, im betting theres a reason rossi is that much slower, like he is testing weird parts etc, cos theres no way he would be losing a second to lorenzo after beating him in the race.
cant wait to see spies next year, im a Rossi fan, but also a Spies fan, when Rossi leaves not sure who will get my full hearted support, cos i like melandri and simoncelli too. plus you gotta love Lorenzos attitude, he just brushes everything with a carefree manor.

yes, spies is posting some seriously quick times and looks to have adapted to the bike and tyres almost instantly BUT this is TESTING, not QUALIFYING. they are testing new parts, setups and tyres. Ben IMO is getting saddle time and is finding the limits of the 'stones. I am not saying that he is not going quick, its just that not many of the others are in flat out mode yet. expect to see the final positions tomorrow as a better indicator. if spies is still up there then yes, motogp just grew another alien...

up from 3 to 5.

What's up with Honda
<
Is Dani P actually trying to make it through winter testing without getting hurt.

Nicky hasn't found anything he is still about .8 away from Stoner
<

Melandri - nothing special yet
Dovi - What's going on
<

Espargaro - Looks like Ducati made a fine choice. He will be fighting that midpack.

Simoncelli - You would think he would be closer.

I'd be interested to see who was using what rubber. Was Jorge testing out the qualis or if that is a race tire time.

Yea, Hayden is putting in the laps. I hope he finds something or at least gets enough seat time to start heading in the right direction.
