125cc is shaping up to be a great season this year. Ginger Smith is proving he's got the speed, Julian Simon a very quick and underrated rider.

As Simoncelli isn't riding Bautista will be looking to make hay while he can, he's definitely favorite for the win but Qualifying was clsoe than i expected. A few surprises could be in order.

As for 15, i'm still faithfully believing smith is gonna get it done but he's really up against it as everything so far has gone Simons way. Aspar team look like they should be first and second eitherway, but Ianonne looks pretty exciting, and i think Terrol is gonna be big this year

250 warm-up...top 5 within .4 of each other... Go Wilairot & Talmacs!!i

well the 125s.... 4 laps.... not much gleened from that. the 250s on the other hand albeit only 2/3 of a race was excellent! bautista had a chance to roll a maxi hall of points & ends up 7th! i guess he don't want to be champ this season either. mighty mike good debut in 3rd. inspector cluzel

now this was the shock of the weekend. hector barbera... great way to come back from last season.

Yep, best riding I've seen from Hector in a long time. He always seems to make stupid mistakes when he runs up front, but he never put a foot wrong this time. Great result for Aoyama too - after dropping so far back I was really surprised to see him grab 4th on the last lap.

I'm almost glad the 125's were stopped while Iannone was in front - another few laps and I'm sure Simon would have done a Stoner and totally disappeared. Good to see Marquez get up after that crash too. How the hell he got away from that without injury I've no idea.

Well, the 125cc race was a bit of an anticlimax being so short, but Simon already looks pretty serious. Ianonne was brilliant though, if he has any kind of consistency he could well be a factor. No other major surprises really except Folger, who is seriously impessive at this point. Could Bradl be 3rd of the Germans all of a sudden? Smith didn't have such a hot race, but i would like to have seen how he would have gone later on.

250cc race was brilliant.. I've been saying for a while that if Barbera can level his head instead of his body then he could well be a serious contender. This could be it, he was faultless this weekend and i am impressed. Cluezel was on fire, but i'm not expecting to see that again anytime soon. Of the rest there was some great riding by all sorts of new and old faces, DiMeglio obviously made a good impession, making me more confident he wont be a one year of form champ like Luthi seems to have been. I think Talma will be disappointed, and i am a little but he's a rookie so gets this year to find his feat. Bautista must be gutted with his mediocre start to the year while Marco was off, he needs to make his opertunities work.

125cc was too short to make any conclusions, other than Simon's testing pace seems to be real, but should be an interesting year because he is an experienced rider while hiw rivals are mostly teenagers still at the beggining of the learning curve, towards the end of the season it should be much closer.

250cc was a proper race even if it was shortened a bit, congrats to Barberá, he has shown speed many times, but the coolness and mistake free racing is new, he is one of the 3 candidates along with Simoncelli and Bautista for the championship, maybe it was just a lucky thing but IMO Di Meglio could be a challenger too. I saw that guy ages ago in a 125cc race of the spanish championship charging up the field with amazing pace and I still remember that, I believe this guy will make it to MotoGP, lot's of raw talent.
About Cluzel ... well congrats for his 2nd place, his best result until now was a 10th so this is quite weird. The track conditions were different so I want to see a few more races before saying how good he is, maybe he is great maybe he is just a wet weather specialist like West or maybe he was just lucky.

Hondas were not bad, Faubel, Aoyama and Wilairot seem to be close to the top.

He posted good times in dry FP as well...

So apparently Steve Bonsey's team has fallen through and they are running a rider under a differnet name. Are these problems temporary? Does anyone know if we'll see Bonsey back in the paddock this year?

Haven't heard anything about Bonsey. Don't get why he moved up to 250's anyway.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Arrabbiata1 @ Apr 11 2009, 08:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>.... to hear that the financial crisis ruined Bonsey's ride in 250 (the more ex-dirt track champions in this sport the better), in the meantime I shall be watching the progress of his compatriot and ex red bull rookie Cameron Beaubier with great interest on the KTM.

No further developments - just a chronic lack of funding has forced him out. This is one of the few good things about the new Moto 2 class, the huge cut in expenses should prevent this from being so prevalant in the future.

sucks about the bonsey

you guys that keep up with the lower cylinder classes need to look for the next real talent which is gonna be comming up thru the spanish cev series. pj jacobsen. he is currently riding for aspar in said series & i believe he'll be makin his debut in the world 125s next season. maybe a wild card or 2 this season. this kid is unbelieveable fast. keep an eye out for him...

The race directors just pushed 125 QP to AFTER the 250 QP. Japan time 16:05...

Nice work by Iannone... prefect tyre choice and race management.

What's with the Japanese dude in parc ferme wearing a KFC bucket for a hat!?!?

Poor Simoncelli... flat front... changing tyre now... can he salvage points?

Good 250 race underway!
Watching the on-board makes me flinch whenever they cross the light streams of water.
