Jumkie, you have absolutely no idea how things are ...... in the world.

Like with all jobs, anybody who is pretty good at "something" isn't usually doing the chasing. Its not as hard as you make out.

If it is, should you be there?
<

Of course he doesnt, he is a typical liberal who believes that no matter how ....... irresponsible you are, there should be a safety net so you dont have to live with stupid decisions. Welcome to the real world, fantasy land is over there somewhere.

I want to be a balerina, I always wanted to be a balerina, there I've said it ................. oh .... I'd be one bad balerina I can't even continue with that
<

Jumkie, have you never coached/mentored folk? There's positive reinforcement then there's giving people a false sense of purpose. The cream always make it easy as a coach or mentor, if they don't they would not be there. "Tough love" its called Jumkie, if you don't apply it you aren't really helping folk, you are guiding them toward likely disaster.

Dude, this is no longer a career path. it the highway to ruin He is 31 ....... years old, his " career " is just about done. If he was 20 years old i would say go for it. If your a bike racer in your 30's, and not getting paid to perform in your chosen profession, it ....... time to move on, dreams over baby. Wake up, grow up, shut up, suck it up and go on with your life.

So is your standard for chasing one's dream and doing what you love having to be paid for it?

If age is your standard, Checa would not have been a WC had stopped racing 9 years ago. Not to mention spending the last three years in GP close to last. Checa remained in racing, not so much because of his talent or young age, but rather he had the luck of being born Spanish. Westy, has the bad luck of being born Australian in a Euro centric sport. There are Euro dudes getting rides with less talent then West.

I think i will sell my home, cars, truck, bikes, and empty my savings to train for next years NFL combine

Im going to quit my job, take all the equity out of my home, sell my bikes, my cars, truck, and empty my savings account, and start training for next years NFL combine.

You're obviously familiar with logical fallacies, because you employ them so much. You have zero talent and experience playing at the highest levels of American football, the NFL. Westy, on the other hand, has, and up until a few weeks ago had an opportunity to be there again. I'd say selling all your .... to stay in the game was a very good way to keep the dream alive. Again, I wouldn't expect you to understand.

The biggest bail outs have been given to irresponsible people by "conservatives" (one of which was the brother of your beloved "W".)

Now getting back to West, what has he done that is "....... irresponsible"? Selling his 'own' .... to stay in the game? Is he selling your .... Pov? This thread says a lot about your weak philosophy on how to live. Kinda like your toothless boycott. All ....... bark but no action. West is willing to sell his own possession to stay in the game in which he was offered a seat at the highest levels of the sport. Your advice, give it up kid. Lets all be like Pov, amounting to nothing because he didn't risk it all for a decent opportunity.

Well ballerinas are all women, so I guess you having a ...... will at least not disqualify you from becoming one.

False sense? What the ....? West, up until a couple of weeks ago, was in fact on the cusp of riding for MotoGP. What false sense are you talking about? We are not talking about a guy who is club racing. I suppose you are just talking from a place of personal anguish since you, who supposedly raced, was never good enough; if not talent certainly heart! West on the other had was about to line up on the grid next to MotoGP regulars had he got enough money to contribute to the team.

West was not "on the cusp" of riding GP until he found $250,000 that was the conditions ( whether I like it or not ) he failed to do so.

Personally West would be one I would replace many in GP with. But its not my criteria by which Westy's admission is being judged is it?

It happens at all levels Jum, not just club level.

The problem is, he is not a kid any longer, the point ive been trying to make all along. If he was a kid and had a shot, sure, go for it. He is not a kid, and has no shot. As for Checa, yes his pedigree has given him an edge at staying in the game, but he does have a fairly decent GP bio. Everyone knows the score when they go to Europe to race. You are either good enough to overcome that disadvantage, or your not. Ant was not. He had numerous opportunities to make the jump and couldnt do it. Like i said , no shame in failing .

Ant West finishes now, has house, car, GF, seemingly nice life.

Ant West sells all and enters GP and gets no pay on an "amazing prospect" CRT team ,..........

such a hard decision .......

Ant West, waits, keeps car, house, GF ...... maybe some CRT guys need replacing ...... Ant say money up front dudes.!!

sure, that is the point. Imo he is fooling himself both if he thinks he has front level premier class talent, and if he thinks riding for what would look to be a not even very good CRT team would advance his prospects for a better ride in the future in the premier class, particularly if he is turning 32 or 33 or whatever this year. His career is also an example of how taking substandard rides doesn't advance your prospects (as does chris vermeuelen's to an extent), although at the age he was in 2008 most would have taken the kawasaki ride. He was doing particularly well on the yamaha wss bike then on which he had replaced an injured rider, and who knows where he might have gone in wsbk if he had stayed.

I would never criticise anyone for following their dream though, and if he has no dependents/kids/whatever good luck to him for wanting to take the risk.

......... If you're "pretty good" you ain't doing .... ALL at the highest echelons of sport, business or academics. If you're "pretty good" you are AVERAGE. To be "chased" in the upper echelons of sport, business or academics you have to be a freakin' prodigy, with means and connections AND HAVE SOME REALLY BLESSED LUCK on your side. It is WAY HARDER than you make out BM.

Im going to quit my job, take all the equity out of my home, sell my bikes, my cars, truck, and empty my savings account, and start training for next years NFL combine.
Hey Pov. I know you're drippin' with sarcasm here BUT... That's basically what I did ten years ago (at a ripe old 40 years of age) to chase the dream of livin' in a tropical paradise and "training" to run a business in a totally alien culture and environment, without the safety net of friends, family, language, or experience. Don't sarcastically knock it 'til you've tried it... It has been the most cathartic, freeing, character-building experience of my life. THE BEST PART was, "tak[ing] all the equity out of my home, sell[ing] my bikes, my cars, truck, and empty[ing] my savings account - I have never felt more unencumbered and part of the fabric of my own life!

Although what you did was risky and admirable, it is nowhere near as risky as what Ant was willing to do. Would you have done it if there was next to zero possibility of anything positive coming out of it.Were you risking your life for free. I said earlier in this thread that chasing a dream in the business world can be done for a lifetime, not so in bike racing. Not many corporate jobs will kill you, or worse, leave you crippled. Ant has much more to lose than just money. Broke and healthy is one thing, broke and crippled is another. With that being said, i would like to hear more about what you did. Were you at the end of a rope when you decided to jump, or were things going along relatively well and you just got a bug up your ... to do something different.

Again with the fallacies. So you are sure there is "zero possibility of anything positive coming out of it"? How the .... do you think he even got on a factory Kawasaki ride an put himself in a position to line up with the grid at the highest levels of the sport? Following your advice, he would have quit a long time ago. In fact, without the mistake of lining up on the wrong grid spot, he may have actually won a race. That would have never been a possibility had he quit. Not everybody is a quitter like you Pov.

Were you risking your life for free.... Ant has much more to lose than just money. Broke and healthy is one thing, broke and crippled is another.

That basically sums up the gist of your philosophy. That the philosophy very rich and powerful men have brainwashed you into thinking is the ultimate goal for life.

Newsflash, every time these guys ride they risk health, life, and limb. So how much money is enough to risk being crippled or dying? Was Marco getting enough money that his death was worth it? You're philosophy for risk is ..... For a man who supposedly believes in self-determination, you sure surrender easy. You're not secretly French are you? You continue to contradict you philosophy, toothless empty boycotts, giving up, money determines achievement and risk, no wonder you are a solid republican. Weak, greedy, and brainwashed. Again, is he selling your .... to chase the dream? The only thing broke and crippled is your philosophy for living buddy.

Dont give that holier than thou .......... This from someone who will vote to bankrupt an entire state to protect his union contract. Some might call that greed. How about you just refuse your paycheck from here on out since your philosophy about work doesnt include getting paid. As a matter of fact, why dont you pay the state of California for the right to show and do your job. Lets see how fast that philosophy changes. You motherfuckers go ballistic and threaten recall votes if your asked to pay a portion of your medical insurance, what a greedy ....... hypocrite you are.

I'll interpret your little flustered outburst as you conceding. You haven't been able to reasonably explain your point except that people should give up and quit when the going gets tough. Thats your life philosophy.

Again, as usual you a have not followed any kind of logic. You have went on tangents because all my replies have revealed the fallacies and weakness in your rebuttals. Suggesting your attempt at making it into the NFL as a comparison to West's plight was silly enough, but now comparing West's situation to a bargained and negotiated agreement between an employer and a skilled worker to keep their contractual agreement, says you don't know .... about professional working conditions. West was being asked to raise money to ride, he didn't get enough despite sacrificing all his possessions. This is an entirely different situation where an employer agree to terms then tries to back out because it mismanaged itself. Skilled jobs are not given to unskilled, untrained, uneducated workers, thats what sales jobs are for. Is the state going to pay for the the college expenses and sacrifices incurred to get a skilled job to begin with? For a person who supposedly doesn't believe in bail outs, why should workers bail out the state when they ...... up? Again, I know the answer, its because your puppet masters told you worker unions are bad, therefore you blindly hate unions. You favor the executive over the worker because you have been brainwashed into thinking they are causing you harm, as if you were the executive. You vote against your own self interest. You must love the Chinese business model, workers are ..... as long as the business executives get pervertedly rich. The perversion being that you relate to the executive.

Who is this skilled worker you keep talking about. Is he part of a system that has produced one of, if not the lowest graduation rates in the country, despite being the highest paid in his field. Who is this guy, maybe the state should ask for some of their money back.

We should fire cops because there is still crime. We should fire all firemen because there are still fires. We should fire doctors and nurses because people keep getting sick. Your logic is breathtaking. Students go to school 6 of the 24 hours of the day, where do u think they are getting their education? You turned out to be very dumb, but im not gonna blame ur teachers. Actually as a national average, Southerners are very dumb. Teachers dont have a chance in that region. U boys are dumber than planks.
<

It appears we have the dumbest people from the region you are from Pov, the South. Maybe we should start taxing this region more for bringing down our national average.

Yes! Michigan still average. Might not find a job once they do graduate, but they sure do graduate high school.
