Should clarify, man-made global warming doesn't exist. The climate changes all the time.
Cool, now that my kids are grown and gone, my wife wants to pull up stakes and do something off the wall. She can find a job anywhere and just wants to go somewhere different. Probably not as different as Thailand, but wants a change. Im the complete opposite, burrowed in like a tick in my comfort zone.

B does not imply A.
Morevover, A is contrary to general scientific consensus.
In the US, science has become politicized. Here, 'man made' Global Warming/Climate Change is in dispute because the political conservatives favor big business, who have spent money on the propaganda machine. Its astonishing, but most political conservatives here believe its a hoax, while political liberals believe the science.
What do you define as 'socialist'?
Pov, I like you, but much as it galls me, I have to agree with Jumkie. Despite his belligerence, argumentativeness, and sheer blooody-mindedness, there is within that confused sozzled persona an uncanny intuitiveness and understanding of the world as it is. Here is a brilliant post from an Australian forum. It is how I believe it to be. Pov, for those like yourself, that have been fed on a philosophy (or religion ) from birth, it can be very hard to understand the forces at work..........................
NB- msm = mainstream media, ie Fox News, Murdoch press

Let me give you my condensed global economics for dummies. The Right has dominated the planet for some decades, mostly by subverting or attacking countries of different economic systems and imposing their neo-liberal, market fundamentalist, hyper-individualistic and rabidly anti-collaborationist system across the planet.
As a result global inequality has grown rapidly, with more and more wealth in the hands of the rich. The rich, being insatiably greedy, have preferred investing in financial speculation, where they have invented new means to leverage a mole-hill of capital into mountains of debt, entirely created out of thin air and hedged about with 'derivatives' once putatively a type of insurance but long since become simply devices for quasi-larcenous speculation and manipulation. The rich have gathered together into hedge, wealth and vulture funds, where the weight of their money power trumps that of all others, the true meaning of 'leaving it to the market'.
The rich got carried away over the years, what with Alan Greenspan topping up the punch-bowl with free money every time it looked like the hyper-bubble was about to pop. Various highly contrived bubbles are currently deflating, but the rich refuse to follow neo-liberal theory (that's for losers, and was always a 'convenient untruth')and suffer losses for over-ambitious grifting. No, it is much better to have their political employees bail them out (to the tune of 29 trillion in the USA, so far) and liquidate society instead. So the serfs get high unemployment, falling wages, housing values deep underwater with mortgages unpayable, shrinking conditions, huge 'give-backs', social welfare retrenchment and increasingly contingent and precarious employment without any benefits or health insurance, whatsoever. Conditions in European states, like Greece, where the self-inflicted social euthanasia pf 'austerity' is the new sado-religion, are even worse, and our turn will come here, in due season.
And what is the response of the ruling global parasite classes to this economic debacle and implosion? Why a demand, mediated by their wholly owned propaganda system, the MSM, for 'More, more, more' of the same. More 'labour market reform' ie destruction of unions and ripping off of wages and conditions. More 'tax cuts', for the deserving rich, of course. More war, so good for business and crucial to see off the Chinese menace. More of everything that got us into this pickle. No ecological remediation, no renewable energy, no empowerment of workers in the workplace, no increase in welfare payments-none of these because they benefit the undeserving 99%. No just more pandering to the rich, and a rapid descent into economic pandaemonium.
Thats not an answer.
Actually, somehow two post got in one. I was replying to Bunyip. The answer to your question is easy
"one who advocates or practices socialism"
Thats easy
A lot of that is 100% correct, and affects individuals who have not done any planning whatsoever, and have been financially irresponsible throughout their entire lives. Just because someone is willing to loan you money, doesnt mean you should take it. Individual greed has played as large a part in this mess as anything. A good example is my youngest daughter. After graduating from college, she took a job on the ground floor of a local company , while her friends kept hanging out for middle management, because starting out on the ground floor was beneath them. Guess what,3 years later, many of her friends are still looking, and bitching about being the 99%, and she is in middle management, moving up 3 times in 3 years. After she and her new husband saved enough money, they started looking to buy a home. When she went to finance , the loan officer offers to loan her 3 times the amount she had set as her limit. This is where greed, ego, and irresponsibility usually sets in. She stayed true to her plan and purchased a smaller home that fell within the guidelines she had set. She didnt have to have it all now, she understands that you work your way up to that dream home. I have no doubt she will someday have it, and will be in a position to keep it.. If people would just slow the .... down, play the system, quit living above their means, this thing will work. Quit financing homes for 30 years to make them fit in your budget, quit financing cars for 5- 6-7-8 years. If a car payment is to high for you on a max of 48 months, your looking at to much car. If you have to go 30 years on a home loan, your looking at to much house. Quit using credit cards as income supplements to keep up with the Joneses. Like a bunch of addicts, society got hooked on what they convinced themselves was cheap money, and now like a bunch of addicts, they are going to have to rehab. No one forces you to do the stupid things you do, quit blaming others for your problems, you made them, they are yours. Sounds old fashioned i know, but a little common sense and humility never ever goes out of style.
I agree with you Pov our kids are OK 'cause we've taught them well. But there's one more thing... Are we to turn our backs on the children of parents who didn't teach their children well? Do you believe its OK for the government not to teach life skills in schools (true home economics) and to pander to the shysters who offer up 3x loans requested, 30 mortgages, 8 yr car loans? Is it OK for overzealous financial sector to not only offer, but push, these toxic debts onto those least able to afford them or even understand the position they are getting into? Can't we raise up the whole society by applying that little common sense and humility a little less selfishly?
I thought this was a thread about Antony West losing his MotoGP ride?
Socialism breeds more corruption than capitalism. Make the people government dependent.
