To be fair there are people everywhere who do not appreciate motorcycle racing. For example, one of the girls i share a house with is convinced that motorcyle racing is not a sport because they "just ride bikes around". She is so clueless that when i told her the superbikes was on she said "so do you just sit there and watch it". So after i explained that it was just like when she watches football and rugby except with bike racing, she replied "so are there lots of people like you".

And worse than that, i know people who like motorsports, including f1, but find bike racing in particular boring. I guess at the end of the day lots of people do not appreciate this sport, i am grateful i found it and i do my best to share that joy. But i don't get to mad when people don't understand

Well I Currently reside in Florida and there seems to be an overabundance of these people. I suggest they engage in the other activities that occupy their time. Such as bailing hay and humping their sister/daughter when motorcycle racing is on.

Now remind me, NASCAR is the one with cars going round and round in a large oval shape 200 times right? Because I'm not seeing how that could beat watching paint dry, never mind MotoGP.

i just complained to yahoo, said "total ..... was hardly abuse if you bothered to read the thread, yahoo are violating my freedom of speach imo. it was ok for a poster there to call motogp ... anf say were al;l .... but i was pulled for calling him a total ...... what a cry baby. i would like to smash his napcar sister fukin face in, ....... yahoo wont let me email the mofo and abuse him

Well since I live smack dab in the middle of the NASCAR mecca being that most of the major NASCAR teams are within 50 miles of my house I feel compelled to speak.

This reminds me of a supercross race I attended many years ago at the Charlotte Motor speedway. It turned out to be a great race with some hard racing and serious crashes. As I am leaving the stadium heading to my car, I hear Billy Bob and Tim Bob behind me saying "Man that was not as good as a NASCAR race, I'll never come to another one of these races again, it's just a bunch of kids riding motorcycles." I coulnd't believe my ears, for half the price of a NASCAR race they got to see some of the best athletes in the world man handle screaming two stroke machines around whoops, jumps, and everything else you could think of for 20 laps, and they were not impressed? It was then I realized that many NASCAR fans have no clue as to the discipline and skill it takes to pilot a car or bike at the edge of it's limits without crashing for long periods of time. They didn't care that Supercross was a better show with better atheletes, they had made up their mind before coming they were not going to enjoy the racing. The were not true motorsport enthusiats.

Many of the people commenting in that link sound like Billy Bob and Tim Bob. You will never change their minds, they will never broaden their horizons and see what true drivers or riders can do except go around in circles. Don't get me wrong, i'm not bashing the NASCAR drivers, what they do takes skill and concentration beyond belief. I used to be a big time NASCAR fan in my younger days, but now I am more a casual observer. But even when I was a huge NASCAR fan, I still enjoyed Supercross/Motorcross, Formula 1, AMA Superbike, heck any motorcycle racing for that fact. I guess I am a certified Motorsports nut.

Unfortunately for us here in the United States (which I'm proud to live here by the way) we are victms of NASCAR's monster media frenzy and cash outlay. They have lots of money, and will spend it well to suck people into it's circus, and unfortunately, it doesn't leave much room for anyone else.

Sorry for the long post(getting into Jumkie territory), but I am glad to have this forum to chat with other true motorsports enthusiast.

Great post L8Braker, and I agree with you, NASCAR drivers are talented. No matter what kind of track you are on going wheel to wheel at those speeds takes skill and balls regardless. But compared to bike racers and WRC drivers, and to a lesser extent F1 drivers (thanks to electronic overwash I don't think F1 demands the same skill as it used to) they are small fish to to be honest.

I don't particuarly have too much of a problem with NASCAR itself, in fact I have found myself watching on Channel 5 at 3am when bugger all else is on (if its got wheels and an engine I'll watch it).. its the ignorance of the fans that seriously annoys me. They don't show any respect whatsoever for other racing disciplines, and don't seem to want to give them a try either. I wonder if the bloke who posted that has ever actually watched a Moto Grand Prix, whether it be modern era or 500s? I'm not so sure...

I suppose that maybe the difference is most NASCAR fans are exactly that, NASCAR fans and NASCAR only. Whereas most MotoGP fans are motor racing fans, and will give other things a try.

At one time I thought MotoGP would be able to crack America. I truly believe that it has the excitement, skill, and technological genius to make many US citizens wake up and smell the coffee. However, having seen the ignorance of some NASCAR fans, I'm now not so sure.

Anyway here was my answer:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>I feel sorry for you.

The fact that you find NASCAR more interesting than MotoGP shows a level of ignorance that, I have to be honest, makes me feel slightly depressed. I, unlike you it seems, love motor racing, in pretty much any form. I watch NASCAR on occasion, I even watched the Daytona 500. However, I simply do not think NASCAR has the excitement, or talent, of MotoGP.

Have you ever watched a MotoGP? If so you would have realised that the best riders in the world trying to feed 230+ bhp through a contact patch no bigger than your palm is far more impressive and exciting than any form of oval racing.

Don't get me wrong, NASCAR drivers are talented, but the fact of the matter is they are driving in circles. MotoGP riders are hitting circuits like Phillip Island, Assen and Donington. No comparison I'm afraid.

And by the way, were you ever to actually venture outside the USA, you would realise that NASCAR is seen as a joke in almost every other country in the world. Maybe a little harsh, but that is the reality. If all you watch is NASCAR then I'm sorry, you are not a real motor racing fan. You are simply another victim of the US seeming reluctance to embrace sports that everyone else except your country are watching. Possibly an arrogance thing, I don't know. Maybe ignorance. Or maybe fear. Who knows. All I know is it's pathetic.

I don't get why everyone is so angry about these people because they don't like what we like. So ok they claim to like motorsports but only seem interested in NASCAR. But you can meet "music fans" who will say that justin timberlake is as good as it gets and pink floyd is rubbish. At the end of the daythey are both music fans, but one is a fan of built to make money and built for t.v music, and one is a fan of less comercial "true" music.
