Testing starts tomorrow

And just like that, Lorenzo sets fastest lap of the test at 159.866

As he said he would, Marquez goes for and breaks Stoners record with a 1.59.533

Rossi  hanging tough, almost breaks record himself

Dovi within 8 tenths. Could this be the start of the Ducati turn around.

Its a start, he was 1.6 seconds off of Marquez  at last years  Sepang Q2

Yeah they don't normally go any faster as test goes on. I hope they've found something.

Both Dovi and Cal in the post pressers claim that the 2014 bike is good in braking and easier to turn.  Improved corner entry.  Both want more but the pair are both claiming that strides are being made.

Nicky failed to give an interview after day 2.  Reading between the lines, I think he's unhappy with the performance of the bike.  It's slow apparently.  Quite a bit slower than HRC was leading most to believe when the bike was being developed.  That being said, every bike in front of him you'd expect to be in front, so I suppose the take away is that he's right where the bike allows him to be.

BTW, I've siad it before but honestly, the video pass is a great thing.  All these guys are talking and the interviews give you fair insight into what's happening.  Following this series without it must suck!

EDIT:  Looks like Nicky did in fact do a quick presser.  Still says the bike is discouragingly slow when he attempts to follow other riders.  Basically, the bike isn't ready for primetime.

Well perhaps having the more basic electronics isn't much of a disadvantage when you have enough fuel to load a nice smooth torquey engine map & let the rider thrash it.

It'll probably be a bit less smooth into corners & suffer a tad more tyre wear. It'll be interesting to see how it goes In race conditions, wheel to wheel with other bikes

i'm not so sure that the extra fuel is actually that much of a benefit.its not like they  can afford to put a bigger jet in the carb  and reap the benefits of smoother throttle response.

ok, it was neither the most sophisticated engine nor was it the most powerful i'll give you that, but at 245+ horsepower at the crank the crt spec bmw engine would use less than 20l on  a couple of tracks (brno, valencia). (which is pretty f-ing amazing to me,you can definetly find not too old road bikes that are just as thirsty if  thrashed)

makes it hard to believe for me that either a little more fuel - or even another 15bhp!- will find the privateers another 2 seconds.

look at how much the crts have improved last year and how much that had to do with fiddling with longer swingarms etc instead  of just letting the electronics <strike>waste fue</strike>l manage everything.

instead of the usual half assed attempt , i'd love to see dorna themselves pushing for even lower fuel limits for the factories.

only when fuel is ~18-19L we will see the sbk engines on par with them

Yeah, Cal's vast experience on the Ducati must make it easy for him to compare!

You realize that Ducati has both the GP13 and GP14 at this test.  They've been riding them both.  I think that helps...

You want  to see something scary, look at Marquez's race simulation from yesterday. 19 laps, all well under, and some over a full second under the official race lap record that he set last year. Thats insane.

Those are some eye-opening times. It's one thing to set a single fast lap in testing. It's one thing to put up those kinds of times 19 times in a row.

I'd like to add something here: Marquez claims that his little brother is actually the faster rider. While I don't believe that for a second (it's hard to imagine anyone being faster than MM right now), it does make me think about what will happen when Alex Marquez makes his inevitable debut in MotoGP.

The lap times are damn frightening. He seems to be in his comfort zone already while others are still rather far off, much more so over race distance.

As far as Alex Marquez is concerned: Ralf Schumacher was also said to be even faster than his brother....

That's exactly what I was thinking. Ralf wasn't bad, but he couldn't hold Michael's helmet. Maybe the younger Marquez will be different, but that's something we can look to in the future. For now, all I can see is MM's insane lap times.

Thats all Rossi and Lorenzo are seeing as well. Lorenzo was better than Rossi by a good bit in race simulation, Marquez was on a different planet than both of them. It appears that Rossi still has fast laps in him, but can he throw them down one after another for 45 minutes. If his simulation is any any indicator, the answer is no, he will be well behind his teammate and Marquez, Probably Dani as well. First test, we will see.

He did say something about MM's pace looking so good because he did it during the fastest time of the day(morning?) Not sure when Jlo and him put in their laps.

Cant speak for that. Rossi's simulation was  his last laps of the day according to analysis, while Marquez had only had 4 more hot laps the rest of the day after his simulation. So either his were pretty late in the day as well, or he sat around and did 4 laps  the last 6 hours of the day

meh... he set himself up for ridicule by maintaining his 'inside knowledge' and outright denial of any need to wait until the rubber touched the tarmac before declaring the bike a success.

and not to worry I'll not become the 'new' anyone... just continue as the same old me.

@migs - i think there are a lot less 'sock-puppents' and more 'just-plain-'tards' out there than you think!!

Works for me. Wonder how long before deserters come back. Glad to see something worth discussing.

JLo did 5 laps in his race simulation and gave up due to increasingly deteriorating lap times
