Suzuka 8hr 2015

That's the one. For some reason I remember it raining at the end but I guess not. The M1 riders crashing was comical. Crutchlow crashing? Say it isn't so. I wish they would have shown Nakasuga on the podium/parc ferme balling his eyes out.

Haha, I love how we go off on tangents while waiting for some racing news. Thanks 22 for keeping this thread on track. While I was reading the results I really did get a sense that this event is interesting. Lots of memories in those names. The all Jap team doesn't have a chance. Kagayama, Haga, and Kiyonari, are relics. Poor Haga, he got robbed of a Wsbk title. Nice to know Rathapark Wilairot is still getting picked up to ride, I'm just happy he is alive.

Anybody remember when Katsuyuki Nakasuga raced in GP and scored a podium. It was a wet track. Valencia? Motegi? Anyway peeps were crashing like teenagers after a rave. Pedro won but I remember hoping Pedro would crash so this Jap rider would win, as he came in 2nd. He was crying on the podium as people cheered. Great genuine moment. (I think that's my memory).

Jesus where is Geo. We need some video.

Willski and I watched that race at mine. I'm sure Cal crashed out of second.

HRC always used to drag Shinichi Ito out of the woodwork or Akira Rio when he was a test rider for Suzuki.

Do you remember Taddy Okada staging a comeback in a wild card ride at Mugello a few years back - or did I just make that up?

Nah, that's probably true. The only thing I ever read you fabricate was the suggestion someone suggested HRC team orders. (In my best Andrew Dice Clay voice) "Oh!"

Edit: a one liner response will do. 'lol'

Now excuse me, I need to go extract some honey...

You'll get nothing from my hive.

Did I ever regale you with the time about my very close encounter with a swarm of Africanised bees in Joshua Tree?...a part of the world you are more than well acquainted with. Actually, I'd just driven through Twentynine Palms that same day.

Ben Spies got injured that year? Surely not.
Surprised he wasn't just assassinated. Probably would've been easier. It's a good thing he only won a race and almost a second, otherwise all those mysterious gremlins wouldn't have been enough excuse to usher VR back to the seat.

As if Chili busting his balls on the tank at the top of the corkscrew wasn't bad enough, it's the only time I've seen anyone butt-surf a swinging arm all the way down its entire length.

Butt surf, hahaha that's fantastic! .... man, I'm gonna miss u at Indy. FML

They attached a twig, painting it black, pretending it would perform as a swingarm. That reminds me of that rider who's rear wheel fell off and he was literally "butt-surfing". You remember that? Maybe Kesh can BJC us the particulars. It was in WSBK, I want to say it was a sing-sided swingarm, so probably a Ducati.

I do remember that - it was Berger's Ducati. I also remember the shock collapsing on the KR Proton ridden by Shakey Byrne during practice I think at Doni exiting Goddards.

Excuse me - but what is this BJC you speak of sir?

BJC=Google. Basically I was asking to see if you could Google the particulars. But Arrabbiata1, the human Google machine dropped the name of the bloke this happened to, which is amazing. Though I did stump him when I asked him the name of the .... star that used to sponsor a 250 rider back in the day. You're old enough to remember Kesh, do u know the answer?

Kiyo is fast as .... when he wants to be, still has more to offer in my opinion. However how does this work? He's riding a Suzuki when he's a contracted BMW rider.

I guess Hilton doesn't count....

Asparagus has had a big off, unhurt though.

Friday qualifying for Suzuka 8 Hours sees Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith progress to Top 10 Trial despite a big accident - retired MotoGP champion Casey Stoner fastest of the Honda riders...

MotoGP stars through to Top 10 Trial

Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith progressed to Saturday's Suzuka 8 Hours pole shootout despite a big Friday accident for the Spaniard, while retired double MotoGP champion Casey Stoner was quickest of the Hondas.

Unlike in Thursday practice - when the #21 Factory Yamaha of Espargaro, Smith and Katsuyuki Nakasuga set the pace - each rider had their own pair of track sessions for Friday qualifying.

With the teams already divided into an A and B Group that meant a total of six (20-minute) qualifying sessions to decide the teams eligible for Saturday's Top 10 Trial.

Qualifying began perfectly for Yamaha as Nakasuga and Espargaro led their respective first sessions.

But Smith was up against Stoner and it was business as usual for the Australian, who topped his first two-wheel qualifying since the 2012 Valencia MotoGP! Smith was fourth, 0.770s slower than Stoner, while the scorching track temperatures meant neither was close to Nakasuga's earlier 2m 6.877s.

Nakasuga put Yamaha on top again in the first of the Qualifying 2 sessions, with Espargaro continuing their momentum by setting his best lap of the day (2m 7.075s) early in his Q2 run.

But disaster struck soon after when the Spaniard had a big accident on the approach to the hairpin, heavily damaging his R1. Fortunately Espargaro was unharmed and remained fastest before returning to the pits on the back of a recovery truck.

Smith (on the team's spare bike) and Stoner then dominated the early part of their second qualifying session - only for Kawasaki's Kazuki Watanabe to outdo them both with a stunning 2m 6.656s. That beat Nakasuga's earlier Q1 time and put Team Green at the head of the overall Friday timesheets.

Stoner - teamed with reigning Suzuka champions Michael VD Mark and Takuma Takahashi at the factory Musashi RT Harc Pro team - also broke into the 2m 6s on his final run, the only Honda rider to do so, with Smith positing a 2m 7.308s for third.

Other international riders to lead one of the six Friday qualifying sessions were: Sebastien Gimbert (Honda Endurance Racing), Dominique Aegerter (FCC TSR Honda), Josh Hook (FCC TSR Honda), Kyle Smith (FCC TSR Honda) and Alex Lowes (Yoshimura Suzuki).

Friday's track schedule ends with a night free practice session.
