So casey is going to be inducted in the MotoGP hall of fame, do you think deservingly?

I do, twice world champion on two different bikes, lots of wins and podiums - not exactly sure how many. And all at the ripe age of 27. Congratulations Casey Stoner.

I don't know, perspective is all.

My interpretation of all this is that Carmelo is very glad Stoner's  career is over, is calling time on him,  and definitely doesn't want him to ever consider returning.

Nothing to say he can't return even after this, is there? Personally I don't think we'll see him back full time. Possibly wildcard entrant. But on quiet days how much does he think and wonder if he's good enough to beat the next big thing? That's incentive what marquez is doing.

Perhaps that's a bit paranoid but given Ezy's previous comments, I also think it reeks a bit of trying to definitely shut the door on Stoner.

Still, congratulations to Stoner. Well deserved, as with Schwantz, despite not racking up as many championship as the Doohans and Rossi's, he captured the imagination of many during his career.

I bow to few as a full on Casey fan, and think his achievements on the Ducati are difficult to over-rate, belittled though they were when he was actually at Ducati.

My general view is that being dubbed a legend requires some time in retirement, although Valentino for one will obviously qualify straight away. I am not sure Stoner really bears comparison with the likes of Hailwood, Agostini, Roberts, Lawson, Rainey, Doohan et al, for reasons of longevity apart from anything else. I do think he is better than Wayne Gardner though, and I was a Gardner fan during his career.

On riding skills alone I believe he is the best GP rider I have ever seen, even surpassing what I saw of Saarinen. That's trait alone that deserves legendary status.

I can't say I felt that though, until he got on the big bikes.

This was actually announced last year wasn't it? Its just that the actual ceremony is nigh.

I agree that they should have waited longer to induct him, but to be honest I don't keep up with the GP HoF and how it works, doesn't seem to be like other sports. You know I'm not a big fan of Casey either, but to me he deserves to be mentioned among the other legends because of the level of competition he was able to beat and for his unique riding style. Congrats to him, and I hope he's brought up every now and then when people talk about MM's riding style, even though he may not care.

Quitters do not deserve Legend status. eot.

now, if he returns and replaces Pedro then hands Marquez his ... on the Honda ill be the first person in line for a Stoner legend t-shirt :D

The fact he did it on two different bikes says more than Doohans domination on the best bike, he deserves this award, no question.

I think Stoner definitely deserves it, but I'm still holding out hope that he comes back. GiGi's first move as head of Ducati should be to fill a dump truck with money, drive it to Stoner's house, and start dumping cash on his front yard until he has no choice but to ride for Ducati again.

dont mind well done Mr Stoner in his time Hall of Fame

can we have Dorna Carmelo RDirection in the Hall of Shame..

If you win a championship aboard a Ducati, I think they have no choice but to put you in the HOF.

Well I have been accused of bias when it comes to Stoner many times and have said before so will say again, yes he is an extremely talented rider and an all time great in many ways, but he is not a legend of the sport (all IMO).

I say this as for mine, the word legend is a term to often used (as is great) and describes achievements of far greater stature than Stoner achieved. To me, Rossi is a legend as is Doohan, Lawson certainly, Ago absolutely, but Stoner for me is sadly no.

Nothing personal against Stoner there either as for me he is still sadly missed from the sport as one only needs to monitor the reaction when he speaks (or is asked to speak) about MotoGP. For many he will be an 'unknown' or a word I prefer, an enigma within the sport as we saw what he had, but never saw ALL of what he had nor dare I say, saw the real Stoner.

Great, yes, legend NO

So by your statement, no rider who retires deserves legend status?

I dare say that many will disagree with you on that one

I think HRC tried that strategy and gave up at $15m.

I thought the same as you and was going to write pretty much the same sort of thing, but then I got to thinking. It isn't 'Motorcycle Legends', it's 'The Motorcycle Hall of Fame' - and in that category, he is absolutely qualified. But then, so is Puig. :D
