Casey Stoner Tax Update!!!

So apparently, the Australian tax year runs July to July, and because Stoner was still technically living in Switzerland at the start of the past tax year, he couldn't spend too much time in Australia. Now that a new tax year has started, he can spend much more time in Australia, as he is now officially resident there. I wonder if that will improve his mood? I suspect it will.

In other related news, a French magazine is making a serious effort to arrange for Stoner to do some demo laps on Doohan's 500cc two-stroke at PI this year. Whether they'll be successful or not remains to be seen, but it would be very cool.

Australian tax year ends on the 30th of June.

Last time you wrote about his tax, you claimed the ATO were after him. Stoner sounds like he's under the usual expat arrangements. What's the angle now?

Oh boy!! Let me guess! The 'angle' is a broadening of our knowledge of the situation and a micro primer on Aussie tax law...

Nah. It just sounds curious. Stoner's arrangements would appear to be quite standard. Would be interested to see what the big deal is, given the breathless exclamation mark and insinuation of misdeeds or an investigstion of some sort.

He never said the ATO were after him, just that there would be tax implications for spending too much of the year in Australia. Income he earned last season would be subject to Aust tax if he spent more than half the financial year here.

Like you say, pretty standard.

True. And if that's all, what a dull story.

Actually, not true. In an earlier post he insinuated that the ATO were rather interested in him.

Anyway. Tax story. WGAFF.

The breathless exclamation mark was a joke. Because, let's face it, it's a ....... boring story.

Stuff I post on here I post without an agenda, and without an angle, and it is not meant to be taken as news. I share what I learn and what I think you people might be interested in. It should not be treated with the same seriousness with the stuff I post on the website, as I have to be sure that that will be true.

The trouble is, when I do make light-hearted remarks on here, I encounter a host of broken irony meters. I shall bear that in mind.

In more news, Stoner Autobiography Update! Stoner's autobiography is to be released around the time of PI. Written by Mat Oxley, so it will be properly good.

Hehe.
Oh for ....'s sake. "Ghost-written". Nobody writes their own autobiography. Sports personalities can barely spell their own names correctly, and writers who write their own autobiographies are too good at creating their own fictional life.

That's my whole point. It was ....... dull when there were ooos and aahs in the press/internet over Rossi's tax problems. It is even less interesting when it is retired rider. Based on your first post on the topic in some other thread where you insinuated misdeeds, I mistakenly thought you were taking it there.
