Spies calls it a day

Let me quote you Crew Chief

"Most of these incidents Were down to sloppy bike preparation"

If you're going to make a statement then back it up with facts. Your great at links, please provide me a link where someone outside of power slide said this.

You seem to know everything. As I recall your solution to Yamaha's engine allotment problem was adding a tooth to a sprocket.

Im waiting Crew Chief...............

His crew chief certainly seemed to be incompetent but his biggest problem was between the ears.....I like Ben and he certainly has talent but he is "mentally weak" as you like to say.

Sad day for MotoGP to lose such a great talent. He may not be a Stoner or a Lorenzo, but he was a great rider. I don't understand why he kept that Houseworth guy around though, that guy cost him his career. If he had a crew that knew what they were doing and was able to get set up right and not have the bike shatter into pieces at multiple races, he would've been challenging the top guys.

I wonder if this a real retirement or is this a force out by Ducati or a way for him to get off the duc? Does anyone know how serious his injury is? Sure hope he takes a year off and tries to find a ride in 2015.

So now we have 2 riders retired that will constantly be rumored to return to the sport, even though there's no chance

Absolute phenom in WSBK, too bad the ill-fated move to MotoGP cost him his career.

Ill-fated is right...I think he could have done good things in MotoGP if his bike hadn't disintegrated in damn near every race.

GEOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Comeone buddy. Clarify this statement

Still waiting for a fact, a link, a rumor a statement.

Anything????????

The buzz in Indianapolis was that the shoulder injury was very serious. The talk at that point was that any further damage to the shoulder would result in permanent limited range/movement/strength in the future. It sounded awfully grim. This announces confirms, to me anyway, just how grim the injury is. I'm not putting a lot of stock in the theory that this is his way of getting out of the Ducati contract and allowing himself a year of recovery. From what I gather, Ducati didn't want him in MotoGP for next year anyway; I'd expect that contract could well have been terminated by mutual decision if Spies really wanted a year away.

Spies showed considerable promise and talent in MotoGP. While he probably never was going to be a championship contender, he did possess the ability to wins races. That 2012 season rivals Gibernau's luck in 2005, and perhaps wins out because if I remember correctly, Gibs crashed a lot that year. The number of mechanical failures and crew gaffes was incredible. Great talent, sorry to see him go.

His mother ruined him.  And why the eff did they have to interview and quote his fuccin' mother for?

To a degree I agree, you know your days in a factory team are numbered when your mum tries to go toe to toe your boss,  she may have been a good manager at some level, but many in the paddock say she is an absolute nightmare.

Bates motel comes to mind.

I mean, I understand a mother's love.  But this is a "Racing Mother" through and through.  I wonder If Ben even likes to race or was forced into it.  That's his problem, he doesn't know..... I think anyways.

Yea I didn't put much stock in my theory either. I just threw that out there cause Spies seems to be so private it makes you wonder what's really going on. Thx for the reply!

No love loss from Mladin on the subject of Spies retiring...........................

So, what does Mladin think of Spies' early retirement? Judging by his response, Spies and Mladin won't be arranging a traveling pub show where they offer warm tributes, toasting the good old days.

Asked for comment on Spies retirement, Mladin responded with just two words: "F#king ......"

Mladin refused to be drawn out on the subject, saying "You got my quote."

That's entirely reprehensible if it's true.

I say if true - it is afterall Dean Adams...so is very likely reported out of context. As universally disliked as Mladin is and as desperately in need of a sense of humour transplant he may be, on the rare occasions that it does surface it can be very dry.

While my opinion of Dean Adams isn't very high, he's somewhat well connected in the AMA, and Mladin's follow up of "You got my quote" doesn't leave much room for interpretation. I'll give Super-Bias Planet the benefit of the doubt on this one.

That said, big words from a guy who won, what, six domestic championships? (Realizing now I neglected to include Australian Superbike titles, which Wikipedia reminds amounts to one in 1992.) I have a term for racers who refuse to move on to the next level after proving that their current environs aren't a sufficient challenge: ....... ........
