Spies calls it a day

That is a good idea, shoulder injuries now can cause problems for the rest of you life, I also think he has taken a massive mental battering over the last two years.

Wow, it seems like not too long ago he was the up and comer for Yamaha. It's a shame these last two years, he's so obviously talented.

Shocking. I thought he would be either Production Ducati or WSBK but never did him walking away come to mind.

lin jarvis & company did their best to <strike>sabotage</strike> destroy Ben in 2012. they should feel real good now.

It's a shame and he had more than his fair share of bad luck. Personally though, i don't think he had what it takes to ever challenge for a championship regardless of bike.

His mum might have to go out and get a real job now her meal ticket has thrown the towel in.

Surprise-O-Meter  [\........]

Without passing any manner of judgement, it seems to me that the dude's been thoroughly checked out for a loooong time.

This just makes it official.

You can't blame Jarvis (grim ....... that he is) for Ben's insane string of mechanical mayhem.  Most of those incidents were down to sloppy bike preparation, a problem that has followed Spies and Houseworth since they moved to WSBK.  (I never did watch much AMA in the prior years.  Did Ben have 'bad luck' in that series as well?)

Bye bye Ben....cant say i will miss you, but i do hope you have a long and healthy life outside of racing....

A pity.

But I can't help but think that Ben will enjoy himself more out of MotoGP.

Good on you, Ben.

Quitter.

Hate to state the obvious but he is 29, and only the exceptional few at his age have gone on to achieve other than grid-filler status

in MGP. God knows he's given us great racing in his AMA days and one of the best years ever in WSBK. For myself

I feel bad for the guy given the ...... luck and the all the injuries to his body and his self-confidence. I remember not

so long ago when it was strongly rumored that he would never go to race in Europe because he had a fear of flying that he didn't think he could conquer.

Thank You Pie Man for some great racing. I hope you've saved enough money to buy a house that doesn't have your mother in it.

Talking about luck:

As the insider would say

"What a load of ....."

You should change your username to "the Crew Chief"

Another ridiculous post in a long history of ridiculous posts inferring that your some knowledgeable GP engineer that knows how a GPbike should be set up and designed. Please indulge us further with facts regarding this armchair theory that tech 3 and Pramac are " sloppy bike preparers.

Don't drag me into it.

Can't really blame him for the move. If I got spat off every time I tried to race a bike, I'd probably throw in the towel too.

I was so upset when I read this in the morning but if I think about it, something stinks here...a few weeks back he just stated that he wanted to continue in MotoGP instead going to WSBK and he has a rock solid contract with Ducati. I hope his retirement will not be final as Stoner's seem to be and this was only a temporary solution to sit out a year without any legal obligation, getting back to 100% and storming back to WSBK.

He just can not be that finished. A year back I thought going to Ducati is the right way for him and was somehow sure that opposed to others he could ride that pig. Damn, I was wrong...that bike is really a career killer. :(

Aww, you pulled your little head all the way out of your ... just to say that?

Get a clue, Poo Boy, no one wants to hear your malignant spew.  Shut your nasty pie hole and go back to slurping your shitshake.

Let me quote you Crew Chief

"Most of these incidents Were down to sloppy bike preparation"

If you're going to make a statement then back it up with facts. Your great at links, please provide me a link where someone outside of power slide said this.

You seem to know everything. As I recall your solution to Yamaha's engine allotment problem was adding a tooth to a sprocket.

Im waiting Crew Chief...............
