I agree, no penalty, but only if they were to be consistent. We all know they overreacted due to recent grumblings. Lorenzo on Dovi wasn't even worth mentioning. The move Lorenzo made on Simocelli last year at Valencia was 10x worse than the non-issue move you refer to regarding Dovi.

Yup. Fact of the matter is if we get the close racing we all pine for there will inevitably be the odd .... up. All part of the sport. On occasion though we do see something that's just plain out of order and needs to be dealt with, capi/Harrada springs to mind. Funny reading the above posts about past events following a rider. We don't seem to hold that against capi anymore

I disagree. I think it was no more than an unfortunate racing incident. I think Lorenzos move was more careless but the difference being he didn't take out Dovi, that imo was just pure luck.

Pure luck? Disagree. Simoncelli has too frequently proven willing to overstep the line that divides aggressive riding from that wherein good judgement is totally abandoned for the sake of a zillion-to-one chance of safely completing a move without regard for the safety of the other rider.

Rossi didn't get where he is today by luck. He did it by using his brain (with one or two notable exceptions). Luck gives you good weather or the cutest umbrella girls on the grid. Mostly it's about skill and good judgement.

The difference between Capi and Smelli - is that with Capi it was a one-off, whereas with Smelli he has continued largely unabated with over-aggressive moves. Capi is well liked and respected by his fellow racers. Smelli, erm... ah, not so much. You will note (and agree) it's

not just myself that feels Smelli needs a spanking and a time out (maybe a nap as well), but rather it's pretty much all the riders other

than perhaps Rossi.

What's this "foo" you speak of? More of your weird Brit-speak slang?
<
Lorenzo's move while a bit desperate - showed skill because he pulled it off. Twas no more luck than any other of his results. Lorenzo is smart enough to know the difference between a calculated risk and a fool's mission. There's a wide gap between the two M8.

Lack of luck isn't the reason Simoncelli hasn't finished hardly any races he's started.

Firstly regarding my luck commnent you should have quoted this post #38

Secondly capis move was far from a 1 off ! In the lower classes he was well known for hard charging and bone headed moves.

I think the problem is some of you sap's have just got too used to 800 style races and forgoten the bar banging paint swapping good ol days.

I will cop to the fact that there are a few races I've missed or forgotten, but I have no recollection of Capi exhibiting this kind of behavior since coming to the big leagues. Apparently he learned his lesson. Can you say the same for Smelli?

I've been a fan of MGP since they called them 500cc Formula One and understand the whole nostalgia thing. Still, macho posturing aside, it's wrong-headed to think you're tougher than the guys who are out there riding these things and they're complaining too. You act as if getting thrown down at 200 mph and getting your bones broken is equivalent to getting elbowed a bit while on line for fish and chips. Yes it was meaner and rougher back in the Stone age of motorcycle racing and guys regularly got killed on road courses - but let's face it, racing has evolved. The bikes are faster and the risks are greater. What was acceptable 30 years ago isn't acceptable any longer. I for one don't feel the racing is boring if the whole weekend goes by without a rider being killed, paralyzed or injured. If I really felt the need to see a bunch of drooling neanderthal thugs knocking each other down I'd get me a ticket to watch a Manchester homegame.

Yeah but that was 40 years ago! Do you forget how long Capi has been filling a spot on the grid?

I wouldn't blame marco if he told Dorna/motogp to stick there ..... series up their arses and went to a series where they dont cry about close racing. Seriously motogp is turming into a ....... WI (womans institition) meeting with a load og old ladys whining about each other.
