Good read....Interesting that Yamaha has said they wont get into a bidding war for JLo.....in my view it mean Yamaha wont be pressured and can take their time on making any and all decisions....pressure is on JLo to decide on money and risk with Ducati vs easy ride and lesser money with Yamaha...

I do hope JLo jumps to Honda or Ducati or even Suzuki at some point in this career and tries to win the title there....otherwise, it will always be a question mark over his greatness vs other that have jumped to other bikes and won the title...

I don't think JLo would be worried about what people think of him winning on another manufacturer tbh.

At the end of the day, amongst the realists in the world, Rossi's talent and legacy was hugely questioned after his Ducati adventure.

I don't see George going anywhere yet. As with most of the riders, winning is more important than money. Now, three years from now, that could change if he is still at the top of his game, won a couple titles and a big check comes his way.

I don't see any big changes with the top four, unless, KTM pulls a rabbit out of the hat and lands DP. I feel that is about the only change that has any possibility. DP on. KTM would be a huge win for KTM. His experience will bring the bike up to speed quicker than two rookies or satellite riders. IMO.

Why would Jlo's legacy be questioned? To the contrary, it would say something positive about his character, UNLIKE Rossi who left HRC & Yamaha over a fit of ego and capriciousness, fact. It would say about Jlo he is not a bitch to chickenshit power politics, trying to win titles from his influence rather than his on track performance. Like now, again VR trying to pressure Yamaha against his more talented teammate. All career stats that Rossi has enjoyed returning to Yamaha should carry an *, none of which would have been possible had Carmelo Ezpeleta brokered the coerced deal to return. You can also add an * to Rossi switching from HRC to Yamaha, because the most important thing that did not change was the superior tires advantage he enjoyed over the disadvantaged field. To give you a perspective of just how important tires are look no further than this year's preseason testing and the situation that has arose.

Since you think a rider going to another manufacturer and winning is an indication of their "greatness" how do you reconcile VR winning at Yamaha wilst on SNS tires, with the complete unmitigated disaster that was Ducati? Sure according to your standard above, it tarnished his legacy of "greatness". Not that his end of season debacle said something about it.

Fancy Dani and Maverick to swap roles in 2017.

And I "hope" Lorenzo stays with Yamaha and they dump Rossi or he quits cos he has ran out of bitter lemons

Question..

How bad does Rossi have to run in the first 6 races for him to call it quits at the end of the year? Like Kropo said, I don’t believe he is one that will circle the track in mid pack for the next 3 years just for a pay check. If he doesn’t truly have the chance and/or skills to win any longer, not saying he doesn’t, I think he does, but IF he doesn’t, what is the breaking point when he says, “.... it, I am heading to my ranch and my school to drink wine and teach the next generation of great MotoGP riders”. No wins? No podium in the first 6 races? No finishes above 4th? Above 5th, 6th?

Just curious… I think no wins will really weigh on him.. No podiums would do it..

Probably open up his own t shirt stand and charge $2,000.00 per autographed shirt.

Based on last years form, he's guaranteed a podium with MM and JL looking like they'll place above him. Pedrosa looks lost at the moment (which I am surprised at, I thought he'd fare better on the new tyres and electrics than Marquez). The question marks for me at present are Redding and Vinales. They have the pace to keep Rossi off the podium if they continue as they have done in testing.

Rossi has an ego so big though, I believe at times he loves the attention more than winning. But of course there could be an early season weight change or tyre change....

Getting beaten at Qatar, and possibly Argentina would sting. But in reality, it will be about the distance to the leaders. If he is off the podium but a second back, he'll stay. If he's off the podium but 10 seconds back, he will go. I don't see the latter happening.

I don't see the latter happening either, only because the Yamaha is well developed and probably the best bike on the grid at the moment. He will be adrift of Lorenzo(if he figures out the Michelin's at the start of the race) by a good margin IMO but the remaining podium spots not so much.

1:2
1:3

There may have to be a miracle for VR not to be on the podium. It's a simple mathematical probability.

Who is gonna beat him outside of Lorenzo and Marquez, when on the unpredictable occasion the Michelin doesn't suit Rossi? God knows we'll be hearing him squeal like 2007 that unless the tires suit him there's no point in continuing, Michelin and Dorna will prevent that message from coming out. So who would beat Rossi consistently, Iannone, Viñalez, Pedrosa?

What makes you say that about Pedrosa doing better than mm? Curious.

Pedrosa is a much smoother rider than Marquez, who also uses a lot less front end. On paper, the Michelins and spec electronics suit him better.

I was thinking the opposite simply by what he did in Moto2. No electronics and suspect tires, the kid was dominant. I believe he is one of those riders who is just fast no matter what.

This is something I thought as well. People go on about him using so much front so he can't be as strong on Michelin except he killed it in moto2 and they weren't running Bridgestones. It's more plausible the guy is just good at finding the limits of the bike he rides and using them to his advantage.
