Silly Season 2012

Rossi is denying his mind is already made up, but also starts .... jerking Jorge...hmmm

From autosport.com

Valentino Rossi denies he has decided to call time on his Ducati career, saying the lure of winning on three different manufacturers still appeals to him.

The Italian has become the central figure in the 2012 silly season, with offers from both the works Ducati and Yamaha squads.

Despite his admission at Laguna Seca that he was struggling for motivation with the Desmosedici, he said that he is still yet to make a decision - insisting that competitive machinery, rather than money, will be the key factor in his decision.

Asked whether his spell at Ducati depended upon an improved contract, Rossi was quoted as saying: "Actually Ducati has made me a lower offer compared to the past. But this is not the important thing: with Ducati I'd get more money than with Yamaha anyway, so if money was important I would have already made my choice.

"[What counts is] to get back to winning ways. There are two ways to get there: to pick an already competitive bike, or to take a fascinating long-term gamble in trying to sort out this bike with Audi's help.

"It's a stab in the dark, however: the problems are the same as always and we haven't managed to solve them in all this time. It's frustrating.

"On the other hand there is the beauty of trying to win with three different manufacturers, something never achieved by anyone."

Rossi admitted that he has proved unable to make a significant difference on board the Ducati, but said he still felt deserving of a competitive machine.

"The situation has changed, you can't make a big difference in bikes anymore. And, specifically, I haven't managed to," he confessed.

In response to Jorge Lorenzo's comments that he deserved a competitive bike, Rossi added: "Jorge is among the few who have always shown respect towards me and I thank him for that. He is right: I, too, think I deserve a competitive bike."

Nice, looks he actually ate the humble pie (sorta) everyone's always talking about on here..

of course a nice salary is always good.. but the guy has so many endorsement deals and self sponsorship etc that he makes money no matter what.. i say go for it..

the idea of sorting the ducati and winning on 3 manufacturers sounds great, but rossi on the ducati, dont think so.. i think in the next decade or two we'll see someone win on 3.. ducati may not be one of them though

If he were to go back to Yamaha, I would hope that it would be with a lot more humility. I hope he has learnt some lessons in that regard.

can't believe what i'm reading. rossi brown nosing jorge? and being humble?

guess these past 2 years really sobered him up

This is par for the course. How often do any of these guys announce half-way through the season they're switching companies? It makes for a marketing/PR nightmare.

Wonder if Ducati will let Rossi go after the season is over, or make him wait till the Jan.

I'm surprised. I would have thought that Lorenzo would have had the power to veto it. I thought Lorenzo wanted a competitive second rider.

Yamaha didn't listen to Rossi in the past i doubted they will listen to Lorenzo either. They will do what ever is best for their business.

With Stoner gone, all Rossi has to do is beat Lorenzo. Would you put it past him to punt Jorge to win another title, i wouldnt. Now Lorenzo has got to watch his back, unlike when he was riding with Stoner and Pedro. Rossi will not beat him straight up, but an unfortunate injury to Lorenzo caused by a ' racing incident' could give Rossi the title.

Exactly, and Rossi has done .... loads more for Yamaha so I doubt he'll be second fiddle anyway. It is good for the series as it could potentially be a Jorge whitewash in 2013.

It's not Dorna that make this like WWF it's people like you.

I thought their long term strategy of keeping Jorge was good for their business. Is there that much benefit to Yamaha in having Rossi back (at a steal) if it also means risking Jorge's happiness? Clearly Yamaha think there is (based on speculation of course as the agreement hasn't been announced yet).

I wouldn't put it past him either. Fortunately, I don't see Jorge as the type to roll over, Sete' style, and collect the martyr points. He'd respond, on-track if possible, or just beat the crap out of Valentino at the next available opportunity.

The best thing Rossi did for Yamaha was prove that it was not him developing the bike, it was Yamaha. This was proved when he failed to develop the Ducati, debunking the myth that he is the developer to the Gods. Everyone now knows that it is all Yamaha. No doubt Yamaha are very proud of this FACT.

I predict that Lorenzo will never sign another contract with Yamaha. He will leave at the end of his 2 year deal and go to Honda. Another legacy for Rossi.

Rubbish, more of your usual hilarious ........ that you state as fact without knowing jack about it-The genius behind the M1 Masao Furwasawa has stated the complete opposite.......but please continue to embarrass yourself. Rossi's Australian crew chief has come out and stated exactly what has developed on the Ducati this year already......nothing. How can you develop a bike when the engineering department fails to change anything....let alone what you asked for? Nothing has been debunked at all, the records stand, and you those of your ilk will get so disgusted next season when Rossi is competitive again, you'll runaway and hide- though I will miss the laughs
