Sepang Test 1 Thread

Dovi, Rossi and Marquez all inside 1:59.
2 pages of Stoner fellation over a 2:01 and not much discussion about the above.

I would love to see Stoner make a comeback just so that his overrated ... be put in its rightful place by the actual cream of the crop.

Or

More likely NOT.

How quickly boppers forget .....

Remember when rossi was going to give us our comeupance on the Ducati.

Nice deflection, Barry.
Has nothing to do with what I said though.

Top 10 inside Stoner's "ERMEGERD SO AMAYZING" time now.

What Ducati test rider "running in 20th" are you talking about?

Sylvain Guintoli is 20th on a GSX-RR Suzuki.

If you live in a glass house don't throw rocks.

Shows how cack the Suzuki is if Guinters is down there.

Once again, those of your ilk seem more obsessed with Stoner than those who were actually his fans when he raced, some time ago now.

I am happy to see the show start up again, and encouraged by Jack Miller's early form. He is just the kind of madman who might meld with a Ducati. My wish is for Ducati success in general in any case.

Yes, I am the one who spent two pages waxing lyrical over his lap time. OK, then.

Yamaha 1-2. Both riders seem very happy with the new frame and engine direction. Sign of good things to come...

Glad the action is back.
A few surprises:

* VR nearly fastest and from the beginning of the tests very fast allthogh it's just testing and we know VR is not looking for fast lap times [emoji33]
It seems the new M1 is back for beeing handsome

* ....... proofed that the Honda isn't easy to ride and the most special bike in the field

* Ducati as strong as I predicted but let's see how they are performing at tracks like PI

* Maybe the 2018 Honda fits Pedrosa better, but MM will give him a hard time again even if the new RCV is more rider friendly

* Stoners time is 2 seconds off the pace... No one knows what he was testing. So, he doesn't want to race again and so we will never know if he is as fast as he was.

Tomorrow will be a very interesting last day at sepang, hoping the weather will be ok and so the riders.

They were the only lap times to discuss then, and it was not I who waxed lyrical about Stoner's time. My contributions as I recall were to agree with Gaz that Stoner's lap times were irrelevant if there was no prospect of him ever racing again, which I believe to be the case, and that imo Hailwood and Lawson are the leading contenders to be the greatest rider if there is such a thing as a greatest rider, particularly on the score of versatility.

You also don't seem to have the perspicacity to realise that the first assumption in regard to any post by Barry Machine is that he is taking the urine, although he does know his bikes if he chooses to be serious.

The M1 does look more pointy like the beautiful 2006 version. I like that.
The past few years, the design had gotten more and more bloated.

MotoGP is all about Form following function, but the slow fuglification of one of the prettiest bikes on the grid was rather noticeable.

Different track conditions from one day to the other.

Stoner, was TESTING - not seeking lap records.

Yeah, so were the other riders. TESTING.

It’s hilarious how when Stoner tops the sheets during a test, people here are all “If only he raced, he would wipe the floor with the rest” and when his times get torn to pieces by more capable riders, suddenly he is “only testing”.

Above average rider with a disdain for fans sometimes deliver good lap times. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Oh ok, I misunderstood the meaning of pre-season TESTS [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
Of course the riders are only at Sepang seeking for lap records and short stints with soft tires except Stoner, he is just running on hard tires and extra long stints, sure more than 60 laps per stint...

Well, you've proven everyone except you is stupid.

Time to go searching for a forum where everyone is as smart as you.

I would be shocked if Stoner fan and the opposed didn't look at stoners times compared to yesterday. I don't understand why that alone is disrespectful. Nothing wrong with comparing.

Stoner pulled his 2:01.1 on his fourth lap, in drying conditions. It's really impressive, but, yes, he didn't match the pace of the regulars.

Putting CS aside, the new Yamaha seems to be fantastic. Rossi is rarely very quick in Wwnter testing, but he's been at the front for a good part of testing (fastest yesterday on the hard tyre, second fastest on the soft today, and fastest for most of the day). MV seems very happy too.

Funnily enough, Zarco seems to be reporting some problems in terms of finding raw pace on the 2017 M1.

The Ducati appears to have improved a lot in terms of mid corner turning. Jorge looks comfortable. AD has picked up where he left off 2017.

I look forward to seeing both Ducatis and both Yamahas taking the fight to Marquez. Should be a hell of a championship.

I won’t be surprised if Zarco ends up using the 2016 frame/ 2017 engine hybrid the factory used towards the end of last season.

Really though, they should just give him a factory bike. Honda and Ducati are doing it and they are getting a ton of useful data which will help their in season development. Also, it might just convince Zarco to sign an extension. It would be a big loss for Yamaha to lose him to KTM or Aprilia.

Agreed.

It looks like Rossi was correct about the 2017 concept being a mistake. He firmly redirected Yamaha's attention back towards evolving the 2016 concept. Great that MV will benefit from the old hand guiding the team's direction too.

Will it be enough? It looks like Ducati has made a huge step forward in terms of mid-corner turning.

You yourself would seem simultaneously to be an example of the type of fan he disdained, and to provide justification for him doing so.

As I said, those were the only times that were available to be discussed then, not that I personally discussed them anyway, and he has had times in testing competitive with the actual race riders frequently in the past including last year iirc when he was 4 years into his retirement, so if it is the case that he finally can't jump off his boat and run competitive times now that he is 5 years retired it is not a great knock on him I would have thought.

Interesting that those who agreed with you are 2 posters who always slated Stoner even when he was topping the time sheets and winning races and world titles in the actual show, reinforcing my point that there are posters who are as obsessed with Stoner in a negative sense at least as much as those who are obsessed with him in terms of rating or over-rating him positively, and you yourself seem to have little to say other than hooray Rossi, boo Stoner or whoever might be Rossi's threat de jour currently or was a threat to him in the past.

If your point is that posters on a fan forum are biased this is hardly grounds for stopping the presses, and you are rather obviously among those including me who are biased.
