Rossi - Today’s Racers Not Men But Children

Seven-time MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi claims that many of his present-day rivals are (wimps) and acting like children.

Rossi's views come in advance of Sunday's French Grand Prix at Le Mans and in the aftermath of the verbal fireworks that dominated last week's Portuguese GP.

The living legend was part of that ill-tempered commentary in his stoush with Casey Stoner while Jorge Lorenzo and Marco Simoncelli staged a separate war of words.

Lorenzo triggered a heated exchange with an impromptu rant against what he reckons are Simoncelli's overly aggressive riding tactics. But Rossi claims that many of Simoncelli's moves are just part of racing tough, like it was in the 1980s and '90s.

"The problem for me is that a big part of MotoGP riders now are (wimps)," Rossi said. "When I grew up looking at the races on television all this (stuff) around the races never happened, the riders then were more men. Now it is like they are children.

"Sometimes, especially in 250s, Simoncelli did some maneuvers at the limit and he is very aggressive. But in MotoGP at Qatar with Dovizioso he was just racing aggressive -- not bad or too much."

Rossi himself has a well-earned reputation as a brutal racer including his track battles with Stoner at Laguna Seca and earlier against one-time friend Sete Gibernau.

"These guys now are speaking before it happens. Motorcycle racing is always strong," he said.

Meanwhile a chilled-out Simoncelli said that Lorenzo's scolding would have no impact on his mental confidence.

"Probably, Lorenzo spoke about me because he hasn’t got anything else to say," Simoncelli said. "It’s so strange. But maybe he sees me as a threat now or he said these things to try and condition my mind for the race, but these tactics have no affect on me.”

one more article about what Rossi has said about Stoner and today's racing,

Rossi vs Stoner. The battle continues...

THE warring MotoGP pair look set to be locking horns for the duration of the season after Valentino Rossi claimed he was blocked by Casey Stoner at Estoril.

In the latest of a series of digs between the two Rossi, who is not one to shy away from fanning the flames for the assembled press, as reported by Sportsmediaset said: “Stoner slightly blocked me again on the line and he did it on purpose, it’s not a big problem, all these spats between the riders in the end are just fun.”

The Italian has always chosen carefully the way with which he orders his rivals when listing them and he singles out Stoner again when discussing the favourites for the championship, "I would say that Lorenzo and Pedrosa have a 50 percent chance of winning the championship but it is still long and we must also consider Stoner."

Speaking after the rows at Estoril, Rossi commented that the new generation of MotoGP riders are all '.......' compared to his two-stroke 500GP heroes. With the complaints from Stoner on his own hard riding tactics and Jorge Lorenzo bemoaning Marco Simoncelli in the front-row press conference for pushing him at Valencia last season.

Valentino said: "It's like Wayne Rainey goes to Kevin Schwantz after Suzuka in 1991 and says, 'Ah - you are not polite!' Or Michael Doohan with Wayne Gardner in Phillip Island after the epic battle they had, 'You are a ........' This is the race. This what happens.

"In the past, this was normal. The riders were more like real men. Now it is more like they are children." concluded Rossi.

Denigrate the riders who are currently whipping you.

Is he turning into a bitter old fart already?

Back in my day, we walked to the races both ways, in the snow!

You guys are missing Rossi's point. He's not talking about riders dealing with injuries, he's talking about on and off track race behavior. How people dealt with it then how how they choose to deal with it now.

No, whe are not. Rossi says riders today are ....... compared to the riders of yesterday, yet he continues to make excuse after excuse for why he is not winning, while other riders who are injured continue to perform at the top of the field. In the good ole days, when you lost, your were not good enough to win that day. Now,there is always an excuse, not just from Rossi, but all of them, they are all a bunch of .......

According to the article above he says that "a big part of MotoGP riders now are (wimps)". So why again did say that Stoner attempted to block him at Estoril test? And don't tell me coz he was asked about it, he could have said nothing happened, who cares.

Which was his response to the question today.

Missing half the season to go fishing . . . . . . . . . With tummy problems.

Right, so competitively riding a 150kg 235bhp Ducati Desmosedici in the worlds premier motorcycle racing championship with chronic fatigue syndrome is a cakewalk? Riding the damn thing fully fit was an accomplishment in itself as we are now finding out.

Also, you list Sheene as one of your favourite riders, so you should be aware that during the first half of his 1978 season and sporadically throughout the rest of his life he was blighted by what was first thought to be a mysterious virus contracted in Venezuela but was later diagnosed as ME/CFS. Do the homework. Admittedly Sheeney rode, but later regretted the decision believing that had he sat out several races early on in the season he might have been able to have mounted a stronger title challenge to KRsnr. He didn't feel as though he was in control of the bike until Assen, when he began to regain his fitness. Bazza stressed that discretion should have been the better part of valour, but was too stubborn and determined to acquiesce to the advice of the doctors.

The only '.......' on a moto-gp grid are the ones holding the brollies. This sport requires balls of steel.

Is he turning into a bitter old fart already?

I think so. I watched best battles last weekend and one thing that struck me as a big difference between then and now is how much more cheerful, friendly and sporting Rossi was in his interview.

Maybe because of the grid size and the fact that a lot of the races these days are snoozefests they've realised that soap opera is the way to go.

This was the quote from Rossi about that:“Stoner slightly blocked me again on the line and he did it on purpose, it’s not a big problem, all these spats between the riders in the end are just fun.”

You read that last line..I think a lot of (Stoner and Rossi) fans should take that to heart a little more. You guys get worked up over all these things much more that the actual riders themselves.

(I do admit it is quite entertaining though..ha..)

I think I can help there, he was actually diagnosed with "Patheticcrybabyitus" . . . . . . . . . . . . .It’s a fact.

..and by the same impeccable logic Sheeney had nothing but a bout of man flu.

Meantime, you appear to have the worse case of yellow fever on this forum.......It's a fact
