Rossi Serious About F1
By Dirck Edge
As we reported on August 1, 2005, Valentino Rossi has signed to return to the Yamaha MotoGP team for the 2006 series. His deal is for one year only, which leaves his future the subject of much speculation, particularly in Italy.

Follow this link to a story about a rumor fueled by an Italian newspaper that Valentino Rossi will join the Ferrari F1 team for the 2007 season. You may recall that Rossi has tested the Ferrari Fl car on more than one occassion in the past year.

Rossi and Raikkonen at Ferrari in 2007?
A three year deal for Valentino Rossi?

Rossi (left) is not stranger at Maranello

Valentino Rossi is on the verge of clinching his fifth straight MotoGP title at Motegi in a three weeks time as rumours and reports from Italy, specifically La Repubblica suggest that the Italian star has signed a three year deal to join Ferrari in 2007 for an estimated 80 million Euros.

La Repubblica suggests that Rossi and Kimi Raikkonen will be the 2007 lineup for the once dominant champions.

There has been nothing official on this from Ferrari who just took up an option on the services of Felipe Massa to partner Michael Schumacher next year. Schumacher himself is under contract to the squad until the end of 2006 and according to reports, will await the first tests of the F2006 before making any decision as to whether he will remains with the team, move to pastures new, or retire from the sport.

The Rossi-Ferrari link is nothing new, but recent test with the teams seem to indicate the two parties are moving closer to a long- term working relationship and Rossi is believed to be conducting another two tests this year for Ferrari. His new contract with Yamaha is a one year extension and is up at the end of 2006.

Of course, a lot of Ferrari's 2007 lineup will depend on how competitive the team is next year and how well Felipe Massa performs alongside Schumacher. As it stands, Ferrari and tyre partner Bridgestone are between one and two seconds a lap off the pace at many Grand Prix. Should the team return to its winning ways in 2006, Raikkonen and Rossi may well be more inclined to make the move.

It has been denied by bith Ferrari and Raikkonen that Raikkonen will join Ferrari in 2007. It was also reported some time ago that Rossi would spend a season testing for the team however that looks less likely. Even though Kimi has denied the allegations of his joining Ferrari, I think it would be a verly likely scenario for 2007.

Well I've dome a bit of reading over the last week and I'll give my rant on the latest the way I see it.

Rossi going to Ferrari in not a forgone conclusion. No 1 reason I say this is Ferrari are not flushed with money apparently. Schumacher was holding out for a payrise for his next contract 6 million increase, decided to withdraw that.

Raikkonen was talked about and was denied by everyone that it was going to happen, but at Monza this weekend he would not deny that he he has been talking to Ferrari http://www.f1racing.net/en/news.php?newsID=96952

If he does go there it will cost Ferrari a lot, I might suggest that they will not be able to afford Rossi as well, for he will not come cheap either.

50/50 chance he'll go to F1

Oh well just my thoughts

1st. Rossi is a winner, and he knows that F1 is not MGP, if you don't have a good car you can't win, so IF he does go to F1 it will be with Ferrari.

2nd. Raikkonen is currently on the best team of F1, he's got the fastest car and I'm pretty sure his salary is very high. Why would he leave the best car on the grid for Ferrari, who currently are a midfield team???

3rd. Ferrari have just signed Massa, who is a young driver that Ferrari has been closely following for years, I doubt they'll fire him at the end of next year.

So to me, it looks like 2007 at Ferrari will be Rossi & Massa or Schumacher & Massa.

I just can`t see the Rossi/Massa combination being strong enough...not my `thing` but feel I`m right all the same.

massa was hired for only 1 year by ferrari, 2006. I still think it will be rossi-Raikkonen IF rossi goes to f1

It was reported by Martin Brundell on ITV1 during the coverage of qualifying for Monza this weekend that Ferrari have signed Rossi to a test driving role for 2006 that will see him take part in one test a month to ensure his development for a race seat in 2007 alongside presumably Kimi Raikkonen. Apparently the reason that Massa was signed for 2006 was as a stop-gap before Rossi could make the switch to Ferrari. It's looking as though this is a done deal... or at least close to it, I will link once I find a concrete source online.

here is the latest news from http://www.cyclenews.com/ShowStory.asp?HeadlineID=8187

Valentino Rossi is headed to Formula One in 2007 after his one-year contract with Yamaha expires at the end of 2006.

That’s the conclusion drawn from published interviews with key Ferrari personnel at last weekend’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Ross Brawn, Ferrari’s technical director, told the Associated Press that the Gauloises Yamaha rider could test as often as once a month beginning this winter. Rossi has already tested the Ferrari three times at the company’s test track in Fiorano.

"He is already as quick as a F-1 driver in the slow corners," Brawn told the AP on Friday.

Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo told Reuters that Rossi’s signing would be with the intent to win, not to capitalize on his immense popularity in Italy and much of Europe.

"He is not obliged to race in F1, di Montezemolo said. “If he decides to, it is because he decides he is ready to win.

"He knows that he must do some tests and a champion like him goes into Formula One if he chooses to do so, if he feels he is going there to win.

"Neither he nor we have a pistol to our heads. If something comes of it, it will above all be his decision. If Ferrari and Rossi come together, it will be to win the world championship and not to put on a show that we do not need," di Montezemolo told Reuters.

The last motorcycle world champion to jump to Ferrari was Britain’s John Surtees. Surtees won seven world championships before capturing the 1964 F-1 crown for Ferrari.

La Repubblica, an Italian daily newspaper, last week published an unsourced report that Rossi will be offered a three-year contract worth 80 million Euros, nearly $100 million.

Kimi Raikkonen, McLaren’s current F-1 driver, would be his teammate, the paper wrote.

i said a long time ago rossi aint going nowhere in 2007
<
but it looks like hes really made a decision boo hoo boo hoo i relly thought hed have a bash on the 800 cc bikes........... sad cus hes a shining light in moto gp,
rant over im off to sulk byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

rossi 46 winner don't sulk yet there is a lot of water under the bridge to go yet.

I don't think it will happen, if Raikkonen goes there I don't see how Ferrari can afford both of them.

Secondly havng them both won't fit with the way Ferrari play the game, they have one top driver the other is no2, if Raikkonen goes there can you see Rossi been his no 2 I don't think so.

I can see how this is gonna fail, the more I think about the more it seems to be publicty stunt

No need to cry in ya beer yet

another report from crash.net

The following story was written by Crash.net's F1 reporters during last weekend's Italian Grand Prix:

Valentino Rossi has been told that he can test with Ferrari on a regular basis in order to gauge his Formula One potential, but that there is no pressure on him to make the switch from his highly-successful MotoGP career.

Speaking to Reuters at the Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo explained that the Italian would only find himself in a race seat if he could prove that he had the pace and mentality to be a winner in F1, but that the opportunity was open to both sides to continue the relationship strengthened by a test at Fiorano last week.

Rossi, who lapped quickly on what was his second outing with the Scuderia, has been told that he will be allocated a separate test team so that he can run every four weeks or so at the team's private facility during 2006, with his performances monitored to see if he has what it takes to transfer his MotoGP skills to four-wheels.

The 26-year old has another year to run on his current Yamaha MotoGP contract, but di Montezemolo makes no secret of a potential switch.

"Valentino is not obliged to race in Formula One," he stressed, "But if he decides to, it is because he decides he is ready to win. He knows that he must do some tests, and a champion like him goes only into Formula One if he chooses to do so, if he feels he is going there to win. Neither he nor we have a pistol to our heads.

"He is a nice guy, he is very popular with Italians but we don't need popularity. We need a winning driver. If something comes of this, it will, above all, be his decision. If Ferrari and Rossi come together, it will be to win the world championship and not to put on a show that we do not need."

Rossi's MotoGP rivals will now hope that the Italian's newly announced F1 workload - plus likely input into Yamaha's 2007 800cc machine - will distract him during the 2006 MotoGP season, when 'The Doctor' will be fighting for what looks like being a sixth consecutive premier-class crown

i read somewhere that it would be a three year deal for a $100,000,000
<
<
pretty big incentive to go. also rossi's old man thinks he should go! perhaps after rossi get's sick of the f1 ........, he'll make a comeback in motogp. that would be a first!
<

No offence to Voovoo, but this pic should be in place of the Sete/Oompah Lumpah,it says a lot for the fun atmosphere on the forum, don`t you think?
