Ferrari 'would do everything' to get Rossi into F1

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Talpa @ Apr 24 2010, 06:26 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>vr was against the 800s in 2007. From memory he was requesting the switch back to the 990's then. And despite 2 world titles with the format he is still saying the same thing. He has been consistent in his dislike for too many rider aids and the fuel regs.

I'm not accusing Rossi of being inconsistent. I'm saying anytime Rossi might have a bit extra motivation to leave MotoGP, Ferrari are in the press beckoning him to F1.

You know what... I'm beginning to think this could be something true. Valentino may really move to F1 in 2011, and if he can win a title there by 2013 or 2014 (not impossible) he will have added a bigger jewel to his crown than by breaking Agostini's record in MotoGP (which wouldn't be easier...!).
Meanwhile, every year he may reappear at Mugello as a wild card, on a "private" Yamaha...

i think it would be MUCH easier for him to stay in motogp and beat Ago's record.

That's another 7 world championships, Pretty tall order seeing you can only compete for one title in each season these days unlike in ago's day. I think ago's record of 15 titles will stand for the rest of time. I don't see any reason why Vale can't compete for a F1 title in the next few years if that's what he wants.

I meant the GP wins record. 15 titles in all classes is just outrageous!

oh i didn't realise as you were answering to J4no post where he is talking about titles not wins.

Yea my bad, i assume people are talking about Ago's win record as that is the next in sight, and frankly most people will agree 15 titles is just never going to happen

guys, I'm prepared to get flamed for asking this, but does everyone really think Rossi has a chance to compete for an F1 title after a few seasons? I'm just looking at his age and how long I think it would take him to agglimate to an F1 car and competitors and I just don't know?

I don't think any of us can realistically say. He has driven F1 cars and Rally cars so knows what it would take. Only he knows if he could compete at that level. I'm not so sure he would enjoy F1 with all its ......... I've said it before and got flamed but i reckon he will go into management of a team or bring on up and coming riders like scwantz in the redbull rookies.

No i don't think he'd make it to be honest. Assuming he was in a championship capable car he would have to beat his teammate who at that level would also be a championship worthy driver. Gaining the experience and ability to do that would take a LONG time and quite possibly be beyond him.

It is a very legitimate question, that will receive an answer only if VR46 will actually try. I think he's the first one who would like to know. The rest is speculation...

Aside from time to acclimate, there's also the publicity side to take into consideration. The F1 spotlight is pretty intense, & an Italian in a Ferrari particularly with his history would surely make it unbearable. Jesus, a couple of tests & look how bad it is already, he rejects publicity in some countries which he just wouldn't be able to do in F1.

Best scenario is like Rog said, a bit of management, following 5 years in WSBK.

but it's irrelevant because he's going to WRC, he hasn't just been testing those cars, he's been racing them & obviously taking it much more seriously.

I have been watching the GT1 World Championship (previously FIA GT) and I think Rossi would be a good fit there. I think The Doctor would be as quick as any of the pro-am/gentlemen GT drivers, likely better. Pair Rossi with an ace GT driver and the results would come.

I have no informed opinion about this topic because I know absoloutely nothing about F1 other than the races are really long and noone ever passes errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr "overtakes" but it sounds absurd that anyone can come in from another discipline and win a championship. Pick any sport. The guys at the top have been living and breathing that particular sport since they were 4 or 5 years old. Rossi may have natural talent but he doesn't have 25 years of seat experience. Even if you were to give him 5 years I would still think the prospect is absurd. It sounds like an a magnificent marketing tool for Ferrari but nothing else.
