Rossi gives up on 2011 title?

What's with the Colin dig?

Sorry i admit it seems pretty harsh. But it just seems that along with Colin being upfront and down to earth he also seems to quite openly believe that the best riders in motogp are doing something that he cannot do. probably because of his times alongside Rossi.

I think I am seeing a Rossi I haven,t seen before. I truly believe he has given up 0n 2011, not only because the Ducati requires many changes to suit VR and VR needs to adapt to the bike, but also because his shoulder wont be ok for the first 1/4 of the season.

I wouldn't expect anyone, let alone you to be fooled into thinking he's actaully given up on 2011 before a wheel has turned. No chance. I'd also take the comments about his shoulder with a pinch of salt until at least Qatar, it is normal for all the competitors to play down their own chances leading up to the season.

I found it interesting that Rossi admits that there will be no dividing wall now that he wants something from Nicky, but he had one put up when he thought (wrongly) he had nothing to gain from Lorenzo.

I don't think I have ever heard any rider, driver or athlete make so many comments about an injury in an interview ever. There is one thing of which there can be no doubt and that is if Rossi under performs then the shoulder will be THE reason. Now I have not seen any of the diagnostic images of his shoulder nor have I seen any footage of the MX accident that allegedly caused the injury and as per the precedent set previously with Stoners illness I am finding it difficult to chew on the excuses that are being delivered. I am absolutely amazed that this human was able to actually catch a bus let alone ride a race bike to a podium the excuses are being delivered so thick and fast.

Would truly love to have seen the comments had this interview been delivered by Stoner.

You know sometimes I feel as though I am still in my 20's or 30's but then when I try to do what I did back then the body just doesn't come to the party. But then I can still mix it with those lazy assed Gen Y's in my chosen areas of speciality.

It is probably safe to say that you are not really interested in my age and your comment is really in defence of the excuses made in the interview. Sure there has probably been more whinging dribbled in an interview but you must admit that for MotoGP in recent times that is definitely an academy award level of out and out .........

How can one judge... maybe the injury is really bad, or maybe it's just smokescreen-- we still know too little.

Stop shadowing me Michael. You write what I want to write before I do and then when i get in first you look for miniscule degrees of error. I have a wife for all that

PS> Drinking chateau cleanskin (hard times ?), so in no state to discuss sensibly..........................................................

I don't think he is sandbagging at all. It is pretty easy for a rider of the level of Rossi's to judge if he can ride the thing or not before signing on the dotted line. He is an astute man, and would definitely have preferred retiring or managing a new team had all his riding options run out. The injury is serious, and it is obvious that they only hope it will heal atleast a few moons from now, which is reasonable especially considering the new machines to come in 2012. The fans are in too much of a frenzy and he has got to show them the truth as it is. It was obvious from the last few races at Yamaha, that he did not ride as hard as Jorge did, and his body was limiting him. I just mildly hurt my shoulder at the gym once and could not lift my arm for months... I had no doubts about his fractured leg, but the shoulder is of concern and if he does not heal well before May, I'd be worried. The bike development efforts wont be futile anyway, as a certain Nicky Hayden will do well

and I will still hope to see Rossi morph into an engineering genius someday.

I wish he was sandbagging, but I seriously doubt it. They are in not too comfortable a situation to do that.

Your explanation is simply the assumption that Rossi isn't sandbagging. Now i don't think Rossi is sandbagging as such, i just think he is being cautious of his chances like anyone else. We don't know what he actually thinks about the season.

I think you should be complaining about the guy who was interviewing Rossi far asking so many questions about his shoulder.

Ah yes, he's always talked up Rossi. I suppose your right, he does seem to lack the hungry aggressive spirit these last few years. He was a completely different person in Wsbk. Dude battled Bayliss like Lorenzo and Rossi did this year Motegi (without the foul intentions of course).

Correct. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."

Yes, i always watched WSBK in those days and was quite a fan of Edwards. Like you say he was a very different rider in an environment where he knew he was one of the real contenders.

Rossi reminds me of our politicians, their office sits around crafting the message of the day, then they send it out on the airwaves only to have their followers, the multipliers, repeat it and believe it. The message is simple and clear to his adoring fans, blame this_________ if I don't succeed, its not me, it this__________ problem. Its just an attempt to cover his bases and relieve some of the pressure only a moniker of the "goat" can conjure (fairly or unfairly, but the effect is there). If he looks human on the Ducati, well, Ducati has already said its willing to throw themselves under the bus ("Ducati must improve for Rossi to be Rossi."), but as if that wasn't enough, well we always have that shoulder to blame, eh. All very tidy.

To start with I am not complaining about anything I am merely identifying the big elephant in the room.

Funny how when the journalists kept asking Stoner about his illness it was labelled by folks such as yourself as whinging and was not at any stage blamed on the questions being asked.

Would you like to see all Rossi interviews go like this then?

Interviewer: So you came last today, clearly riding with a dislocated shoulder is affecting you.

Rossi: No my shoulder is fine, I simply am a poor rider in my old age. I really should quit motogp as I can never win again as I am being scripted out.

Sound about right to me.
