RIP Marco Simoncelli

Hardly a "tiniest of force". The way that helmet flew accross the track showed the energy poor marco suffered on impact !

i thought his head was still in there the instant i saw it.. that impact was massive. i thought i was dreaming cause i had just dozed off a bit during the post moto2 race and i was a bit groggy. it was after 3am here.

i also thought it was Elias when it happened. the way he came across track. i thought this dude missed a corner and jumped a rumple strip or two. he was so lent over i thought it was Elias.. all that in less than a second then i knew it was Simo..

After watching the replay 20 times i wish he would have just let the bike go when it went..we would be talking .... about him instead of missing him. i'm still freaking out man.

I know what your saying Al. I also thought his head was still in his helmet. I also said the same, if only he let go of the bike rather than try and pick it up. .... Valencia, im not sure i want to watch anymore this season.

Ive been in a state of semi shock all day.

Ive just looked at the photo's I had printed the other day to hopefully get signed in valencia.

The 1st one was Marco with my two boys took last year in valencia in the paddock.

Finally Ive cried.

Moto GP has lost another son.

God Speed Marco.

I for one will never forget the excitement and joy you brought to so many.

I'm right there with you, after that race I've had enough I don't want to see another race for a while. I had fallen asleep and woke 30 mins after race start and I was so stoked to watch the race I turned my cable box on and started the recording. It's so weird to say but I'm almost like heartbroken from it, I feel so terrible for all the riders and especially the family of Marco.

I was up for hours after it happened I just couldn't get it out of my head and to be honest I wish I never watched the race. That indent is burned in my mind, and the shot of his girlfriend in the garage while it happened truly feel terrible for his family and motogp family.

I also can't understand why on the motogp website they even have highlights from the race and the race itself, that needs to be taken down in my opinion.

R.I.P Marco, your charisma, smile and riding will certaintly be missed for a long long time

That really was a heart breaking image seeing that young lady sat on her own, helpless and with her face in her hands. Not an image im likley to forget .

Not sure I wanna go n its booked n paid for

Although it won't have the jovial atmosphere everyone is accustomed to, I'd still go. As so many have said, and as cliched as it sounds (to me at least), he died doing what he loved. The rest of the paddock will turn up because they love it. And I know you love it. Pay your respect by turning up at Ricardo Tormo. It will be an emotional weekend. And if you find your way to the right places, which I'm sure you will, I imagine there will be some great Sic stories told.

We went to the F1 race in Monaco straight after Senna's death because, like you we'd booked it far in advance.

Go - it'll doubtless be very emotionally charged as it was in 1994 for us, but it did feel like paying our respects.

I'm sure it will be extremely emotional but going will be good to pay tribute to Marco who loved this sport that we have all enjoyed so much. After losing people in my own life, I know it means a lot to the families of the fallen to see how much they were loved and how they touched the lives of so many. I wish I could be there in person to pay my proper respects but I'll do what I can from here.

this was and is a hard day, it started to be snce 5 am for me, i still can't believe it, just took out my dvd's of 2008 season and saw some 250cc races, also when Sic won it in this same track at malaysia, i miss you Marco R.I.P. mate

Marco Simoncelli was a polarizing figure in the sport. He was a bad boy in the 125s, a lunatic according to some in 250s, and outright dangerous according to many riders and pundits earlier this season.

And he was all of those things. But he was all of those things because Sic rode the way we all dreamt of riding as kids. Marco rode purely with his heart. My personal opinion is that he never would've knowingly put anyone in danger with his moves. He simply saw an opportunity to win and he went for it. And isn't that what this sport is all about, when you get right down to it?

I was never a huge fan of his. But I could never deny that I didn't find him to be the most exciting rider on the grid and the most humorous in the media center.

We lost a great one today. Whether you loved him or hated him, rated him or not, Marco Simoncelli had that rare combination of talent and charisma equalled by only one other man in motorcycle racing.

I, for one, will miss Marco. Watching him somehow manage to fit that AGV over his enormous mane. The look of his comically oversize frame attempting to tuck behind a fairing designed with Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso in mind, knees and elbows stuck out all over the place. His wild lines. The infectios smile. The hair. His interviews. In Marco Simoncelli, there was something for everyone to like and we are far poorer today for having lost him.

Austin, as usual you put into words the thoughts so many share and feel.

For me, I am uncertain how to feel but empty is a word that comes to mind. Empty because love him or loathe him, Simoncelli was (to me at least) an enigma, someone who seemed so 'left field' to the norm that we had come to expect yet someone who seemed to fascinate us with his sheer enjoyment that he got from racing.

I was not his greatest fan, but the guy could ride and that is without question and what is more, he was fun to watch ride with his style and aggression.

I will remember his ride at PI just last week for a while as I genuinely felt it was a signal of maturity in teh way in which he battled the bike, track, conditions and later Dovisioso and a ride that I believe was his best in the category. He was destined to win races, destined to upset many an applecart, destined to be lampooned and disliked by some but loved and revered by many more.

A loss that will reverberate through the sport and will be felt by all in the paddock.

Thoughts to all his family, friends, team members and all who knew him be that in passing or in depth and I so wish I had not seen the footage of his Girlfriend in teh pits ............. that really sickened me for some reason.

Special condolences and thoughts to Edwards and Rossi for whom I feel a string sense of concern and wish them all the best as they were unwitting players in this tragedy.

Even the next day I'm still in shock, and can't believe what I saw.

For me this was totally different to the tragic accident Dan Wheldon suffered as I only read about that, whereas I saw this one live,

Personally it's a bit disappointing to see the footage all over You Tube and stills posted in newspapers.

RIP Marco, we will miss you, and thankyou for everything you gave to MotoGP.

A tribute page has been set up on MotoGP.com to leave tributes & condolences.

Great post Austin

Nearly came to tears seeing the minute's round of applause in Lecce and AC Milan wearing black armbands in memory of Sic. I read that every match in Italy today held a minute's round of applause, but I know that Marco was a massive Milan supporter. Also heard Inter even wore the armbands. Class move from Italian football.
