RIP Marco Simoncelli

It's kind of ironic...when Dale Earnhardt died, I was rolling my eyes and making sport of all of the NASCAR fans weeping and driving around with their Angel Dale decals on their trucks....and since last Sunday's horror, I have spent the last week in a fog of sadness that I cannot shake....the fact that Marco's death has affected me so profoundly is almost baffling to me. I cannot seem to deal with the fact that the world is without this lanky, big haired, fast as lightning Italian with the larger than life features and persona; and it will never be the same place...ever. I had to remind myself that sticking decals on my vehicle (and a 58 tattooed on my wrist!) will never change that fact.

For a change, I'm almost looking forward to the end of the season...

I'd happily wear a Marco shirt to celebrate his life, its just the '87 to '11 I find repugnant. Same with "mom" tattoos, or on a shirt all cool without the tombstone-esque dates.

Marco Simoncelli's father calls for 'minute of noise' in tribute to his son

By Matt Beer

"Next Sunday during the Valencia GP, instead of there being a minute's silence to honour Marco, I would prefer that there was a minute of total chaos with all the engines of the bikes of MotoGP, Moto2 and 125 all on and roaring together," Gazzetto dello Sport quotes Paolo Simoncelli as saying during an interview on television programme Domenica Cinque.

Simoncelli's father added that he continued to be comforted by the affection shown by fans and colleagues in the wake of his son's death.

"People have come from all over Italy and from abroad to say goodbye to Marco," he said. "They cry and it's me that has to console then. Sometimes I think that Marco was an angel. All this affection makes me feel better and it is helping all of us. I think that the key to all this affection is his smile."

Marco's parents have been absolutely amazing in showing their emotions in a positive manner. They really believe that this is what Marco would have preferred. And i,m very glad that they felt supported by everybody.

This just in from Gresini:

SAN CARLO HONDA GRESINI AND GRESINI MOTO2 WILL PARTICIPATE AT VALENCIA AS TRIBUTE TO "SUPER SIC"

Both teams run by Fausto Gresini will be represented on track this weekend. Hiroshi Aoyama rides in MotoGP, whilst Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi will compete in the final Moto2 race of 2011.

Fausto Gresini "The decision to participate was not an easy one, but we have made this choice as it is what Marco would have wanted. Going out on track at Valencia is definitely the best way to honour him by doing what he most loved to do: Ride and experience the world of MotoGP. This is why I believe that the best show of affection that we can make to Marco is by lining up our teams and riders for this race. ?Super Sic' will be present in the hearts of Hiroshi Aoyama, Michele Pirro and Yuki Takahashi, and I am sure that they will give him a most fitting tribute with their performances on Sunday."

Great effort with the t-shirts, BTW.

Thanx for the link Heis. Man, what a bad deal. I like Colin. We are goung to miss a straight talking MF.

No problem guys. You know what really got me in this interview? It was the last sentence,

The evil thing about it that kind of, I don’t know if pisses me off is the right word, is probably the three most colorful characters that actually bring some charisma or personality to Grand Prix, we all three had to come together. And one of us didn’t walk away.”

That is exactly how I felt I bet the situation. Those guys are my favorite three riders man and all three came together. Makes me feel like I'm in some alternative universe, Twilight Zone.

Anyway, glad you guys appreciated it.
