RIP Marco Simoncelli

@rickyduck... Yes. Mattia Pasini and Marco were very very close. Pasini has openly questioned whether he still wants to keep racing as a result of this.

Capirex has actually said he wants to now dedicate himself to bettering safety in races. He and Vale have for many years pretty much made up the riders' safety commission although all riders from all classes are welcome to attend. Ironically Sic was the only other rider who has regularly attended since moving to MotoGP.

I watched the funeral with my dad tonight on youtube, we cried together like we knew him. Its so sad and unfair, still cant believe it.

I was looking through the photos, heard Randy De Puniet was there? Would be really nice to see shots of all the honorable riders who turned up. I understand it's difficult for riders to take time out of there busy schedule, but I'm a tiny bit dissappointed that more didnt turn up... still, lets not take away anything from Simoncellis day.. still tears coming to my eyes

Just watched the entire 8 parts. Very nice ceremony. Did anyone else notice the connection between Dovi and Sics dad. He showed more emotion towards Dovi than anyone in the greeting line. He hugged Dovi like a long lost son. Pretty touching really, considering the history.

Noticed as well.. really very touching. Dovi was one of the first people to ride past simo when he was down iirc... apparently thats also how Dani and Sics dad was after the race.. only in times like this does it show how close the paddock is, and how much sic touched everyone involved's life.

Paulo said in an interview somewhere that he sought these riders out after it happened as they were the one's who hurt sic's heart the most.

Despite the disagreements, there was no ill will from father or son.

Would've been nice to see barbera and bautista there as well, however it was known they were remorseful about the situation

@Rog

OK. Will try from memory as again don't have text.

Kate said basically that on their last very recent holiday with Paolo they met a guy (sorry for the life of me can't remember his name) who is a believing and practicing catholic, and on Sunday night after all that happened she asked this guy why god had to take him away. This guy responded that when a person's mission on earth is finished, he is called back. She said she does believe, though she is not sure quite in what, and has another theory. Marco only had good points and he was perfect, and perfect beings cannot live with common mortals.

Dr Costa said Everyone is gathered here around this casket feeling sad, but inside Marco has a smile on his face. This is the last huge joke he has played on all of us. He there thinking to himself 'you think I'm gone but tonight I'm coming home with you'. With his parents, with martina, Kate. But he is also going home with each and every one of us. Which is the great miracle that Marco Simoncelli has done here today.

Sorry..not verbatim as haven't the text at hand but definitely conveys the general gist of it. I don't think I've left anything crucial out.

And how right he is, there is a little bit of Marco in all of us right now and he has become immortal!

we miss you Sic

That program on TVE is wonderful, for those that don't understand Spanish, it doesn't matter. The images speak for themselves, the last half especially. Paddock GP is a weekly post race show.

To summarize- Marco's relationship with Spain has been a love/hate. We had to hate him because he was our main adversary from the noisy neighbors across the way in the lower classes. We had to love him because he was one of us. Passionate, outgoing, friendly, honest, childish, open and most of all willing. During the last few years, Marco granted some interviews with TVE. Often time these were after track battles with Pedrosa or Lorenzo, none of which he had to but was keen on having his words heard in Spain. Marco stepped up to the criticism and answered any and all questions. If he was wrong he admitted it. He also opens his home to the TVE crew, shows them around his room and finally the place it all started for Marco, the Mini Motos. Old clips of him, Dovizioso, Corsi all waist high riding around in circles, fairing bashing and podiums. The post race interviews are great. Dovi placed second or third and is crying... poor little guy.

It's a great program.

Buen viaje fiel adversario!
