<

There was an article at 'Soup yesterday or two days ago talking about how Hayden is coming to grips with the Ducati. They had an interview with one of his guys from American Honda and he described Nicky's testing style as just wearing out bikes. The example he used was for one of the dirt track races Hayden was racing that season and supposedly he had done five tests just to prepare for that one dirt track round. They talked about him blowing multiple engines on CRF450s in preparation, he would just ride and ride and ride and ride. So I don't think it was a case of Honda telling him to put in the laps, I think that's just how Hayden gets comfortable and finds his settings.

Looking good, glad to see Lorenzo improve and Hayden looks to be steadying himself which is quite a relief. Suzukis running fast is great. Hondas look to be off. Colin resumed normal service. It all looks to be about back to normal.

Without fully going into 2007 and 2008 season, I think that we are both fully aware what Marco did, both seasons. Please explain to me what is going to be different this year? ................Yup nothing. He quit in 07 because he couldn't win on inferior machinery. He quit in 08 because he couldn't handle the bike. Both of those are true this season and you think Melandri is the ....... man for this bike. He is going to quit sooner than he did last year and you call that a good deal. Obviously he has been told and understands that he is grid filler.

Anyway, thanks for picking up my point. I new somebody would understand the irony. In short, marco is just a notch above Pedro on riders that I like.

I'm not bigging up Melandri here Sack, I'm just having my usual, prdicable dig at Hypekins.

Remember, you have to pay him loadsa money for him to make your bike look .....!

Yeah? And how much do they pay Melandri to go out and make the bike look like .... and then come in a write about it? You probably have no clue. Even with Hopkins' supposedly big contract he is still the better deal, at least he tries. There is always room for negotiation. Oh, and how much are they going to pay Melandri when he quits and begins joyriding around the track? How much would you pay someone for not donig their job? .... I will joyride that lump around for free.

My prediction, Melandri to do worse than Hopkins on the Kwak, even if he does finish the season.

YEah you figure that the guy has a grand total of 6 or 7 days on the DUc and he is already in the top 5 for testing times. NOT BAD!!!! Just think if he has another 6 or 7 days.

My guess is that for a ragtag team like this they will have performance based incentives in the contract for him to collect any cash. More than likely if he does where they think he will or should he would get a set amount. IF he places in the top ten there may be an additional amount and it would go up from there if he does any better.

Good interview.
He's pretty open about what they are doing, and the progress.
Interesting that he says he was not on the limit and that his bike feels better than last year.
Also says good things about Nicky.

Melandri has won races, and has a proven track record at world championship level.. Hopkins landed in GP with a couple of support class titles from the states. Fact. The guy has done .... all. The guys CV is available in black and white, and it's hardly exciting reading. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but as I always come back to, numbers dont lie.

As I see it Melandri is the best thing on the team. It's laughable to say he isn't trying when he posts almost the highest lap count in the last test. He isn't sitting in the garage and running the equivalent of 3 GP's.

I highly doubt Melandri is on a performance based contract. No professional rider at this level would agree to sign a performance based contract knowing that the bike is a lump and likely won't get much better. My guess is they signed Melandri relatively on the cheap and Melandri gets to prove to everyone he's still got the desire to go fast and hope someone of consequence takes notice and signs him up for next year.

i agree. If the bikes good and his head is in the right place there aint many can beat him. sadly he never clicked with the 800's and he has a few issues in his head he needs to deal with.

It would be so good for the sport. Every team could raise revenue by selling rideable limited replicas. Also, Aprilia + BMW + a few anothers would be sure to follow.
MotoGP only needs a few rules
Speed limit
Rider weight minimum
Single tire
Spec rims
