Pedrosa's Last Chance To Be Champion?

povol

No, we just know how old he is. I  think he will win a race every once in a while, but will not compete for titles. What Valentino had going for him in his hayday, was an air of invincibility. That was  shattered years ago, and the guys that shattered it have only gotten better. Add to that the lingering mental affects of finally getting seriously injured and you have a guy on a championship winning bike, that will finish 3rd or 4th in the championship

I'd love to be wrong, but I agree with all of this.

I am wondering how Lucky Lorenzo will be again this year. If he is this lucky again, then this is not Pedrosa's last chance, this is zero chance.

You may have all the talent and speed, but if you don't have the luck of Lucky Lorenzo, you ain't gonna win any champhionships.

So just to be clear... the guy with the shattered confidence is gonna finish 10 places ahead of the Pieman on the same bike?!!!!

Rossi has a 1:3 chance of winning races next year. :....:

Wouldn't it be ironic if Flossi won the 2013 championship Cruisin' Caretaker '06 style? You'd go out of your mind Jum!!

Can't believe people think Rossi wont win a race.  :wheelchair:

Can't believe people think Rossi will win a race.

People, be advised, no one lasts forever. If Rossi win a single race I'll be very, very surprised for such luck.

The problem is called Marc Marquez. This boy is just on the corner to set a whole new level of competition, a level where both Lorenzo and Pedrosa can still follow, but Rossi can't.

Valentino can't improve a tenth from now on, and the top 3 will improve from last season pushed by Marquez, they will evolve race by race.

Valentino? Just a privileged spectator, he are going to watch theses epic battles nearer than the crowd.

See I haven't watched Marquez ride yet, all I know about him is from stuff I've read and I'm not sure how I feel about him yet, I'll make up my mind one I watch him race. Lorenzo and Rossi I haven't really warmed to for some reason, so out of them all, if Cal can't win (and I know that's very unlikely) I guess I'd have to say right now I'm hoping Pedrosa can win the title this year since those are pretty much the options it seems.

No, not really.  If VR wins the title it will mean Pedro doesn't, and that is infinitely more important. ;)  Rossi never tried to .... on Nicky like Pedro and his puppet master.  VR may have demanded number one status during his career, which would have been right for the manufactures given he was the champ at the time  (that has not been my beef with Rossi but rather the favoritism by the league to aid him in an inflated career).  I think VR came to realize at Ducati that Nicky was his equal in terms of talent.  As a Nicky fanboy, this has been very satisfying to me.  Pedro on the other hand is still a rice queen rent-boy. :)

Well, I'm going to take .... from my viewing partners but.....I'm pulling for the #26 this year for the title. I think I'd be great for the sport. A rejuvenated Dani along with MM, Rossi and JL fills the void left by Casey's departure.

I'm hoping for competitive season that see's Dani holding the hardware.

I can't see a possibility while Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Marques races around. It would take a lot of luck to have these 3 riders out of the way in a single race.

I'd be happy with your prediction but I think it's absolutely wrong. Rossi is capable of perhaps 3 wins.

Never said Rossi's confidence was shattered, i said his air of invincibility was shattered, and the guys who shattered it have only gotten better. And just to be clearer, Pieman did not finish 13th or 14th in the championship, so no, i dont think Rossi is going to finish 10 spots better than Spies did on the same bike.

'Scuse me! The please explain the subtle psychological difference between shattered confidence and shattered air of invincability to those of us who do not possess your doctorate in the subject!   :hunter:

You are correct on the maths, it would be 6 or 7 spots, I rounded up for dramatic effect!!  :cc_scooter:

(I broke into Roo's emoticon stash!!!!)

Dani should only race virtual Dani's in a series of time trials on every circuit since he is the only worthy rider. The video of the individual time trials will then be digitally stitched together for your Sunday race viewing pleasure - Dani racing 15 other Dani's. MGP's new marketing catch-phrase: ONLY THE WORTHY.  :fish:

So you think that Rossi's twelve years in GP including a GP championship in 500s, 79 victories, 141 podiums and seven world championships and just having been handed the keys to one of the best bikes in the field and he's going to get his ... handed to him by a rookie?

I think you are deluded.

Rossi hasn't become a bad rider just because he spent time out in the wild with a bike he (and no-one else, either) could gel with. He may not be the rider he was back in 1998, but he is still miles ahead of nearly every other rider on the planet.

The only way Marquez is going to beat Rossi, Lorenzo or Pedrosa to win a race is if all of them have some setup issue, an injury or some environmental factor affects the race.

Mick, may I try?

For me the two are distinctly separate as (and again, this is my view only) confidence is what the individual possesses whereas invincibility (or the air thereof) is what others feel of that individual.

In short, for me I have no doubt that the confidence of Rossi has ben totally (or extremely close to totally) unaffected by his time at Ducati or his having been beaten in straight out races against JL, DP and CS during his Yamaha day part 1.

However, I also strongly feel that riders the lies of Gibernau, Capirossi etc all were in awe of Rossi which when coupled with the innate levels of Confidence that Rossi possesses gave him an 'air of invincibilty' to those riders. This is not to say that Rossi cultivated it as essentially he does not have to as the effect is that generated by those who are competing against him.

Well that is the way I see it anyway, he possesses one (Confidence) where the 'air of invincibility' is generated by others

Pedrosa will be tough to beat, no doubt. I think he can win the championship if he can remain injury free.

If he doesn't, that will make 8 years on a factory Honda with nothing to show for it. He needs to win in 2013 because his team mate will learn from his rookie year & be more formidable in 2014.

I think Rossi will still win a race or two. Mugello perhaps? Hopefully all the Ducati boys get a lot closer to the front than they did in 2012. Dovi/Nicky battle should be close. Looking forward to see how Spies rides the Duc as well.

Lorenzo will be rock solid consistent. (no luck required) ;)

Thanks A Roo!! I get that distinction now. I took it as confidence as air of invincibility as both being possessed traits.
