How do rate Marquez's chances at beating these records?

No rider was consistently dominant last year. I can't help but feel the tyres have been different to what the riders/teams are accustomed to, leading to unpredictable performance even within the same weekend. I therefore, find it difficult to draw definite conclusions about the Yamaha riders.

Outside of Marquez, since 2016 it's been a similar story for all of the manufacturers. Even in 2017 when Dovi came fairly close to the title he still had a few shockers and was 'only' able to be on the podium 8x, 6 of those were wins. If he and ducati weren't dominant then dovi struggled to put it on the podium. It's somewhat similar for the next 2 years for him when he finished runner up to Marquez. Compare Rossi and Lorenzo's 2016 to their 2015 season, they had the best bike on the grid again but with the mixture of new tyres and control electronics even the top guys outside of Marquez haven't been able to replicate the pre Michelin/control electronics consistency whether the consistency was good or bad.

A hard comparison for riders who aren’t MM, to be fair as was the case with peak Rossi.

As Birdman, someone who knows a thing or two about bike racing, certainly in comparison with me at least, says, the bike is almost irrelevant to MM, he finds the limits of the tyres and rides the tyres, and we have seen him bring all manner of tyres home to a podium when others either can’t ride the tyres at all or have them disintegrate before the end of the race.

He will perhaps need to temper his methods of exploring the limits of the tyres, but I agree with Birdman that this is what he does ie ride the tyres.
