You said in bold no less "I think he sees his opposition as being the bike and the track rather than other riders. If he can beat the bike and the track then no one can touch him.". Talpa said "seemed like he had the bike pretty beat at Laguna 08,". If you can cast your memory back toi guna 08 you will remember that stoner was ar least half a sec a lap faster than anyone else. That says he had the track and bike beat but he also got beat ! so why the uhh ?

I didn't actually say anything in bold but I fail to see how a discussion about pit walls and team mates has anything to do with a race more than 2 years ago. I also don't think that a race 2 years ago is the only one where a rider has not performed to the expectation set in qualifying.

I am not even slightly interested in getting into a fan biased discussion as I have no preferred rider and am only interested in MotoGP as a sport and the marketing and politics that goes on behind it as well as the skill of all the riders. Emotion does not come into it for me.

Uhh?? Was related to the vagueness of the response in relation to what I posted.

The comment I posted referred to what I believe, with out any hard evidence other than my observations, is the way that Stoner faces racing. A wall in a garage to me says I am concerned about my team mate and all of my focus is on other riders. Stoner on the other hand, right or wrong, I believe sees his opponent as being the bike and the track rather than his team mate and the other riders. My reference to this being similar to Doohan is due to my opinion of Doohan based on obesrvation and the way he looked at racing was the similar in as much as his focus was beating the bike and the track rather than the other riders. I did not reference Doohan as a comparison to Stoner's skill, results or standing in the history of the sport unlike the response given to this reference.

I can appreciate that some posters wish to 'play my guy is better than yours' and behave as though you know each of the riders intimately. However I do not know any of them on a personal level. I respect all of their skills and talent (even those that I don't believe have earned or belong at this level) and have never fallen for or believed in the media presentation of who each rider is on either level. Due to my huge interest in the political, marketing and technical aspects of the sport I have strong opinions on the many facets that I believe impact results at any given race weekend and championship season and I am sure you have read and will continue to read some of these. But for now an emotional response to a post of mine will probably go with out a reply from me.

Good post. I think Pedrosa is more of a bike/track racer. Anytime he gets into a scrap he comes out the wrong end and almost never battles back. Give him a clear track and well setup bike and he is off in the distance. I think that Casey has no problem racing fairing to fairing when it's called for. But the current formula suits the bike and track style. 95% of the races have been a parade. It's all about setup.
