Nicky Hayden injured

I keep checking in everywhere, looking for news on Nicky. It colours my day badly, like a cloud over me - thinking of him lying in a hospital bed, his family freaking out, no immediate answers forthcoming.

These things either end badly or they get better very slowly. I want a TV ending and I want it now. But who am I? I don't even know him. How must his family feel?

Fuuuck.

That's how myself and husband feel. Only met him and family at MotoGP but being he's from KY like us. We have a friend from Owensboro who went to high school with Tommy and get bits and pieces but you never want to pry.

As awful as this all is, all we can do is keep the faith that he will pull through this. The thing I keep a hold of right now is that with the kind of injury he has suffered, we really have no idea of how this will all pan out, for better or worse. I was watching a documentary last night about the IOM TT and learnt that Neil Tuxworth (boss of the Honda TT Legends team) retired as a result of a huge off. The injuries sustained are eerily similar to the current ones Nicky is trying to overcome with regard to the pelvic and cerebral trauma. Neil was in a coma for 9 months. He recovered after a lengthy period with full mental and physical capacity. The human body, particularly the brain is capable of incredible feats of recovery and given Nicky's age, athletic conditioning and sheer spirit there is no one with a better chance of pulling through this than him.

For those interested here is the link to the documentary on youtube. The segment regarding his injuries and subsequent recovery are at the 11 minute 20 second mark.

A positive reminder. People have been in commas for years and survived. I am sure that the Hayden family has the will and the finances to make the best possible choices for Nick.

Survived, I'd hope for better, but I keep getting visions of Michael Schumacher style of survival. :(

Last post on this subject for me. The outpouring of support and concern worldwide for Nicky Hayden gives me great faith in the great number of people all over who clearly value honesty, hard work, forthrightness and good sportsmanship above flash, image and idolatry. It's a good sign for the future of humanity.

As hard as this has been for all of us, and I have been thinking about Nick and his family continuously since the accident (as I'm sure we all have), it of course simply pales compared to that of people closer to him. I'm sure the family is aware of our concern and best wishes and hope that this provides them with just a little solace going forward in a most difficult time.

I was at Laguna in 1989 and saw the Bubba Shobert accident. It took a long time, but Shobert is still with us.

We will always remember Nick at his best.

+1

And I was at Laguna 2006 when Nicky won the race wearing a replica helmet in tribute to the man.
