NICKY HAYDEN: Race in Peace.

I also ask why with all the bad people in the world, this kind of thing has to happen to good people. Anyway, not that it makes this any better, but what the heck really happened? Read pages and pages and not a word on the investigation. Was the driver drunk? Distracted? Or was it Nicky's fault? Somehow it'd seem a bit less unfair if the last was true, but my goal with this is for all of us to learn from whatever lessons can be had. At least he probably lived a better life at 35 than most of us will live even at 70 or 80. And apparently didn't suffer. Crappy day.

I'm going to miss his instagram videos and pictures. Him hanging out with family, being silly with his nieces and watching him ride the track at his home.

Without speculating too much, this is a quote from his Wikipedia page:

The driver of the car stated that he was on his way to work when Hayden passed through a stop sign and suddenly appeared in front of him. He was unable to avoid a collision. The speed of the driver is not yet known but the impact of Hayden slamming into the windshield was strong enough to completely shatter it and dent down the roof of the car. Hayden's bicycle was found in the nearby ditch with its frame snapped in half. According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport a security camera recorded the crash, displaying Hayden apparently not halting at a stop sign and possibly distracted by his iPod.

Nicky Hayden will live on as some of his organs were transplanted into patients who were in need of them. Really great to see this! Incredible that even in death he is still proving to have a massive positive impact on the lives of others.

Wow... Can you imagine some guy post heart surgery, watching a video of Nicky and realizing where that heart has been?

Here's the car driver's view of the intersection:

Nicky was coming from the right, where you can see the roof of a white van approaching. His bike landed about 80 feet beyond, in the grass on the right side of the road. If you 'drive' to that location you'll see the buildings visible in the crash scene photos. And if you back up a few frames, it's clear that the driver didn't have a hope in hell of stopping for someone that suddenly emerged from behind the hedge. :(

This isn't the sort of crossing you'd just 'blow off.' It's hard to imagine what might have happened to allow Hayden to run the stop signs. Maybe a freak distraction like a bee sting, or ???

I haven't read anything that rules out the possibility that he was punted into harm's way by a following vehicle. Anyone heard rumblings of a third vehicle being involved?

Man I know this is wishful thinking. But I would like to see HRC, American Honda & Honda Europe put together a bike for WSBK round 8. A bike that can fight for the win amongst the other two brands. The rider of that bike "Tommy". I think this would be the best honor Honda could do for Nicky. He has represented all three branches of Honda, and was a true ambassador thru thick & thin.

R.I.P Nicky you will never be forgotten!

Why give a bike that could win to a retired rider who wouldn't be competitive. Give it to porkchop.

Nice tribute on the podium. All dedicated their podiums to Nicky and family.
