"It's obvious that some riders have more media power than others. And they have earned it. But it's a different thing when you use it against someone."

"But in this case, as I know I didn't do anything wrong, I haven't."

Shame on those journalists enabling Rossi.

Marquez: "Having media influence is one thing, using it against someone is another"

Reading and getting a sense of his new reality for having the audacity to race Rossi cleanly makes me more pissed at the gutless paddock, former chickenshit racers, ........ cowardly media, corrupt organizers, and majority of ignorant fanboy spectators who still today blame Marquez and enable Rossi's insane sense of entitlement. .... ya'll!

Rossi will retire next year or the next. When he does a bunch of peeps drinking the culo-aid that never have questioned his fabricated artificial record will applaud his absolute ........ career as earned on a level playing field. Yet after his deliberate violent attempt to eliminate a rider off the track, in an act antithetical to every form of authentic competition, and one which should have in a normal world ushered his disgraceful exit to the sport, will be swept under the rug, and he'll be put on a ........ Goat pedestal, like his ........ "lap of honor" by the same people who now think his record is of any authenticity. :)

Haha. As you know, you and I were Marc's biggest detractors for his transgressions, but to his credit, Marc didn't go torpedoing people on purpose. Rossi did. And that should have earned him a ban.

Pissed, only when I've been drinking excessively old boy.

I understand the media has been bringing this up again and again but why can't both MM and Rossi just shut up? I don't mind Rossi winning another title if he could but I kinda wish he was already retired cus I'm just tired of him talking about MM being a lier and hearing about the incident again and again. Who the .... cares if he can't have a relationship with MM anymore or whatever. I wish both MM and VR quit being ....... and just get over the whole crap. I just wanna watch a good race.

While I agree with you Jum, Rossi is not the main problem with the sport, he's just the bright and shiny window dressing that makes you forget this.

"There are things to improve, that's the thing about the sport, that it's not just up to you. Here no matter how good you are if you don't have the bike and the team you'll never win"

The sport is a fraud, a sham. This is the first I've seen an "alien" aknowledge it

Good point. Usually they won't acknowledge it.

Struggling to think of a sport in which best team and equipment don't affect winning percentage.

Yes, it is pretty much as it ever was, and Rossi still got to where he was by being the best rider in the first place imo, and the best rider has historically often ended up on the best equipment in premier class GP bike racing.

We don't need to go over the events concerned yet again, but MM has hit on what several of us have been arguing, and what Birdman has been saying for years, that Rossi is more than prepared to use the crazy element among his fan base as a weapon against his rivals, which is what ultimately has really soured me personally on him.

As long as the fans stay in their seats drinking beer and aren't out on the track chasing MM with brickbats - I don't see what real-world difference they make come race day. Once you're over 170 MPH you can't really tell one fan base from the next. You're sure as hell not thinking about public opinion. When you're racing - you're competing against racers: period. You only really notice the fans on the cool off lap. I reckon some folks overestimate the influence on fans of opposing riders.

And while MM may never have "intentionally" tried to hurt anyone he's created his fair share of havoc out of sheer fecklessness.

I thought it was a great interview and Marquez has shown that he has learnt a lot over the last year. If he takes a more measured approach and thinks about championships instead of just winning races then it's impossible to count him out.

Sure, I still remember the Willairot incident and others, although he seemed to ride less recklessly last season, and I blame his crew partly for the Willairot incident in particular; perhaps he still needs to lose Alzamora as Kropotkin says.

I don't think being hated by Rossi fans will affect MM's on-track performance at all, he is as tough as they come and as above has been too careless of others on track rather than the other way, but it still can't make life unpleasant if the result of performing your job really well is to be derided, which certainly imo was a significant contributor to Casey Stoner's early retirement, through the prism of whom I obviously still see things.

Some personalities would thrive on disproving the derision, others would not. MM ≠ CS!!

Embrace being the black hat guy is probably what Stoner should have done. I am not sure even MM is sufficiently tough and/or careless of opinion to want that role however, although Sepang 2015 does rather suggest backing down is not his first impulse. He did reputedly cry when the suggestion was made he deliberately hadn't performed at his best in winning the PI race, and his actual marketability/income may be affected as was said post the last season events, perhaps not his salary at Honda though as long as he wins.

It is still blatantly unfair though, and fairly pathetic on Rossi's part imo. Beat MM on the track, end of. It is not as though running him or Jorge close without winning the title in his mid to late 30s is a cause for shame.

We, as individuals, cannot control the sanity, or lack thereof, in others, neither in sport or life; all anyone can do is control their reactions and go about doing what they do to the best of their ability... and enjoy the moment when crazy (and its followers) have left the building. MM seems to have this down pat!

As Mick said, it happens everywhere..even sailing ffs. I'm not saying it is right, and it certainly is exaggerated in motorsport, but I don't know what the solution is.

It's like chequebook racers at my local track. Their argument to big spending is there is nothing wrong with getting the best out of your equipment. My argument is that there IS a difference between throwing £ or $ and new tyres to gain you a second a lap vs working on fine tuning the chassis or engine to get that second.

Yes, it is pretty much as it ever was, and Rossi still got to where he was by being the best rider in the first place imo, and the best rider has historically often ended up on the best equipment in premier class GP bike racing.

The best teams get the best results, and so can both attract more sponsorship, and afford to pay the best riders. The best teams don't even need to pay more than others, as we saw with Ducati - Rossi and Lorenzo have both already turned down big paydays from Ducati to ride for Yamaha. Lorenzo and Marquez will do the same again this year.

It's much more about the team than the bike, though. The team which can figure out how to adapt the bike best to the conditions wins most, and that's the team with the most flexible minds. The best teams, of course, also attract the best mechanics and engineers, because they are just as competitive as the riders.

Of course, the fact that the factory teams have an army of people analyzing the data and looking for ways of improving makes a big difference.

If you think it's only about the bike, take a look at Moto2. Identical engines, nearly identical bikes, often identical suspension, brakes, etc. Only difference is the riders and the teams. And that difference is somewhere north of 2 seconds a lap.

If you don't believe me, take a look at Mika Kallio, and the difference between 2014 (2nd in the championship, 3 poles, 3 wins, 10 total podiums) and 2015 (15th in the championship, no poles or podiums, best result, 4th in Argentina). He started both season on the same bike, a Kalex, but things got so bad in 2015 he jumped ship and went to QMMF to ride a Speed Up. Out of the frying pan, into the fire. His former teammate finished 3rd, and the championship was won by a rider on a Kalex, the one Kallio had abandoned.

That difference was all down to the team, and the interaction between Kallio and the team.

Or was it all a sham and a fraud?
