At this point I'm staying home. Its great that some of you can afford the extra expense of being ripped off by COTA's parking rates, but I'm not one of those people. I did, however, have a plan that had a friend dropping me off at the track each day so I thought I had a solution. Unfortunately, after reading a post on another site and then contacting COTA this morning I foind out that they will not allow entrance to the track to any pedestrians whether they have a ticket or not. WTF! Obviously they are forcing fans to pay their parking rates or forcing them to use taxis and then charge the taxis a license fee of some kind to operate at the track apparently. Well COTA can take their track and shove it. I'm sure all of you that are going will have a lot of fun and the track looks awesome, but I refuse to give any more money to an organization that has so little regard for people, especially in these hard economic times.

I agree with your sentiments. The circuit management have had some seriously high profile fails and their awful attitude has shown through as one of the worst fan friendly places I have ever heard.  The word will get out, they are not doing themselves any favors.  Motorcycling community is for the most part a practical and frugal sense bunch.  They will be forced to make concessions or their attendance will drop off dramatically.  It really is a shame the bilking they have engaging in, all things considered.  I'm balls deep into the trip, and at this point, no return.  We have a large group so the costs will be split and this way mitigated.  I wouldn't put it past the circuit to institute a maximum per vehicle restriction.  I plan on having a great time, as we will be with 30 plus friends, and a couple of new ones we will meet.  This may also be the last time I go.  All things considered, its still probably cheaper than going to a European round for me.

Mondodoncha, welcome.  Thanks for the tip.

Ok, so incase anybody is still in denial, COTA policy: No shuttle service! No walk-ins! Will need parking pass!  Oh, and NO SINGLE DAY TICKETS!

19. Can I Purchase Single Day Tickets?
<ul>[]Circuit of The Americas only sells full weekend passes for all motorsport events. Tickets may be sold at the Circuit of The Americas Box Office on the day of the races, subject to availability.
<ul>[]EDIT:  When I posted this at 11:45am, as you can see from the quote above, parking passes were still available.  As of right now, they are NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
[]EDIT #2: Just spoke to LeviG, based on a phone conversation he had, "advanced passes" will be available in town for $70.  (or pay the $30 per day in Lot-F).
I just spoke with a gentleman at COTA.  Here's what he told me.  Tickets will be available at the gate for the same price as online.  $89 for a 3 day GA pass.  Advanced purchase parking is also still available however, you'd have to go to their downtown offices to fetch the passes as they are not available at the track.  The price for 3 days is $70.  Only a $20 discount vs paying daily.  I asked him about parking availability and he said there would be no issues judging by the number of spaces available vs ticket sales.

He was pleasant and reasonable.  I don't think parking will be an issue at all.

I don't expect this weekend to have the ease of Indy (because nobody does an event that well) but I'm not ready to condemn the place before having set foot on the grounds.

I agree whole heartedly!

In fact I'm feeling pretty .... convincing someone else to join this party which in turn lead to another!

I have been to quite a few different tracks in different countries these last 3 years.

And never have I heard the term pedestrians not allowed.

If there was not the issue of money paid for flights etc.

I honestly would have dropped this like a hot rock.

I have never experienced such highway robbery!

Would have preferred to hang around in the USA and see a bit of it after I do Guna later in the year instead ;)

LeviG is always the voice of reason. And quite a soothing voice it is.

I agree but from the point of the average joe doing the atlantic for this.

They ain't gonna draw many in on the face of it!

Just my observation!

For me now too much time and money invested.

If I was doing this spur of the moment!!!

And put time into seeking advice information on the event.

ie a week to a fortnight before travel.

Pipe n slippers, beer and cherute in good ol blighty watching it on telly.

Would be the outcome!

COTA needs to view it from the fans point of view just a little more.

The infrastructure is there eff wun showed that.

So do it on a basis relevant to the sport and attending figures.

FFS it cant be that hard,

And surly the numbers if they charged a small fee for a shuttle compared to parking would work and they would have an Happier crowd!

Just saying!

(Seems to be the in phrase) ;)

Absolutely nuts, I have never heard of a sporting event that doesn't let pedestrians with a ticket into the place. Who in the .... even came up with that idea? How did it even dawn on them to think of a policy like that?

Did the same for F1.

Back then the excuse was that the roads around the track weren't safe for pedestrian access because there hadn't been enough time to improve them with sidewalks, etc. What's been done in the way of construction since then? Nothing. So it looks like maybe time wasn't the issue at all.

When they sat around a table brainstorming the question: 'Ok, we want any and every idea on how to bilk and fleece everybody for this event. All ideas will be considered. If it makes us money that otherwise wouldnt be made conventionally, we will find a way to implement. Think outside the box people. Ok, what do u guys have?'

Voice from back of room: 'Ok, well, i was thinking, we have so much unused land we ...... over all the neighbor property owners. Its just sitting there not making us money. What if we force everybody to buy parking passes? Easy money, and we dont have to do .... extra for it. Including licensing fees to all private transportation. We can also suspend all complimentary shuttles, this way we can force more people to pay parking fees. Oh, and no in & outs, or walk-ins, so we dont have people circumventing our evil plan by getting dropped off. So what that other sporting event venues dont do this, what are they going to do, go back home? They already bought their tickets and booked their flights. They're on the hook.

IDK, I think $89 bucks for 3 days is pretty reasonable for an event like this.  How many sessions will be viewed for $89?

Between MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3, there are 20 sessions total.  Simply, that's $4.45 per session, that's a fukin bargain for a bunch of idiots who will spend hours a day, year round discussing the same sessions after watching them on the tele.

Enough complaining already.  For those of you treking from the UK, you fools should be happy enough just to view the SUN!  You'll actually be able to see it from the ground in Austin.  That is payment enough for your efforts.  Save the fact that Jumkie will be on hand to ensure that all of us are aware of his opinions, on nearly everything.   There's plenty to look forward too!

Get the last of your complaints logged by noon tomorrow!  I'll not stand for any more come Thursday!

"UK fools happy to view the SUN"! Hahaha, thats the best line. Definitely worth the price of admission.

You're right Levi, all well worth it. All things considered. I think much as u say is a matter of perspective. Ok dude, got it.

The price of GA is reasonable. Of course, we wouldnt be going if we didnt have the disposable income. The money isnt as much the issues as the way they've gone about it, a few missteps in presentation perhaps. When i called the circuit about the GA "sections" that everybody was confused about, i also spoke to a "nice helpful" lady. I get shes not the one adding layers of inconvenience that other venues have eliminated. I dont get the no walk-ins thing. Anyway, i'll just say this, and be done with it, cuz we could i suppose break it down to admission per viewing of individual riders, or trucks, or hours, or whatever. We've paid for the motogp vid packages, yet i feel jipped on the off-season lack of test coverage. But ok, i still get the package. Im sure u probably heard a bunch of bitching when peeps were asked to pay for individual bags of luggage, where as i've always thought the price of flying is cheap for what u get. Its just the feeling of getting bilked that is being expressed. Anyway, i sympathize with the consumer and their sentiments. Am i going to get bang for the buck this weekend? Absolutely! ...., i paid more to take wife to a 3 hour Sade concert than this ..... The thing that comes to mind is this; 'its not the money, its the principle.'

See u Thursday. Expect to start the party with a massive bday celebration in Willski's honor--who will not have one negative thought enough for all of us. Except maybe to point out your #26 hat is a tad unseemly. :)

End of.

I don't give a fark about any of the issues. I am going, you lot are going. What else matters....apart from Redding winning Moto2

For all of you complaing about the costs, just remember, some of us would just love the chance to go at all!! I agree it's unfair but hey, you lot have to enjoy it for the rest of us so we can live vicariously through your experience.

I was going to say I'm looking forward to seeing some pictures, but if you're packing mankinis. I'll pass thanks ;)

$89 for a three day pass doesn't sound too bad. In comparison, Phillip Island is $160 and if you want to park your bike and pitch a tent in the sleet, it is $125 on top of that!

But .... it, what better things have you got to spend your money on? Ignore how much it is costing and party hard. I wish I could be there with you to watch the legend that is #93 Marc Marquez take his first MotoGP victory in front of a bunch of whinging Brits and Americans.

Yeah, the GA is cheap.  No doubt.  What would PS be if we didn't ..... about stuff for the fun of it?

Nobody is gonna ..... about #93, ...., we can all say we were there to witness history when the new "GOAT" won his first race.  Other than JLo, (of the four likely to challenge) Marky would be my 2nd choice.  No worries about the bitching, hell, we've all met up and witnessed #26 win, and what I remember of, it was a gay old time.  You should have taken Levi up on his offer, you would have had a front row seat to the synergy and nirvana we will be experiencing soon.  Something about these meet ups that makes everybody little Mother Teresas, a few "i love you mans" will be heard, I've seen Boner haters put money down on Casey to win, I've even been seen trying to get an autograph of Rossi & Pedro (allegedly), hell even BM is spoken of in positive terms...  Believe you me, the only time we will be bummed out is when we have to go back home.
