MotoGP 13 Austin: Practice and Qualifying

the track layout isn't the best for MotoGP bikes, the bikes just look slow on Tv through all the first gear corners.

I was thinking the same.

Question for the guys that are local to the track, are they doing bike track days there? And if so have any of you ridden the track?

Looks like a lot of hard work to me. Too many 1st/2nd gear sections.

if theres one thing that turns me off powerslide more than jks hatefilled attempts at humor then its the hard on everybody suddendly got for marquez.

where were you lot when he raced moto2?fan boy hype muppets....

Where were most Stoner fans when Casey was racing in 125 and 250? I personally had noticed and appreciated him a lot, but he really 'manifested' only in the premier class. I began realizing his real potential in 2006. Now Marquez was already (much) more visible and successful than Stoner in 125 and 250, just like Rossi; but there is no assurance that success in the lower classess translates automatically in the premier class. We are witnessing a 20 years old champion who, at his second MotoGP race, is set to dominate; even knowing that it will be much harder for him in the European rounds, some more than justified admiration cannot be dismissed as hype or conformism. Unless one is projecting something or someone else on young Marc of course... ;)

Mostly laughing at everyone who said he was only winning because Honda hooked him up with a Fireblade engine or some such .....

I ask you though, after dominating his first race, how many championships did Biaggi win?

Some people need to control their verbal masturbation just two races in! I like Marquez, but this is getting wild eyed & crazy.

Max (who compromised his own best chances because of an impossible character) won several races in 500 after that first one, and wasn't too far from becoming a premier class champion even in his rookie season against a guy called Doohan (actually he came as close as possible, 2nd, and we'll never know what would have happened without the famous black flag episode in Catalunya).

Biaggi could have been so much more but I think he allowed external factors and other riders get in the way of doing what he did best. I never liked him but missed him as soon as he left GPs.

We didn't see much of Rossi in qualifying but he seemed really off his game. Given he tested here I would have thought he would be closer to the front. Might end up stuck in a battle with Bradl and Crutchlow if he can't get a great start.

Also, let us spare a thought for Spencer this weekend. Surely he will be a bit sad to see his name replaced in the record books...

Not much to worry about there. Unless Marquez contests MGP and Moto2 and wins both in the same season - Freddie's spot in the hall of fame is secure.

Agreed. He gets forgotten a lot when people talk about great riders but I think he was one of the fastest ever. But I think his 'youngest winner' record will soon be gone.

His must be one of the best helmet designs ever - not many riders have clean, recognisable ones like that anymore. Spies one this weekend is a standout I reckon.

Agreed. I like it. If you give it a second look in the middle front - it bears an easy to recognize resemblance to Lawsons Bell helmet with the Marlboro logo in the front from the late '80s. I had that same helmet. Spies' helmet is really tasteful.

Well let's see what Marquez' character is at top level before giving him an impossible standard to live up to.

I think a lot of the outpouring of Marquez mania on here is coming from 2 camps. It shows that a lot of folk don't know thier history, and the other riders who have been spectacular in thier rookie years. The other school of thought seems to be the glory hunters who were cheering for Casey. Marquez is a special talent, lets give him a chance to develop before declaring him the second coming. It also gives the Rossi haters something to make a noise about. It's a long season, and a lot can happen. Anyway, hope I've not offended any of the more fragile members here as I managed yesterday. Remember folks It's only rock n roll, but I like it.

It could also be just the capacity to recognize a game-changing rider when you see one. With Stoner it was a similar story: wait and see, he's not going to last, it's the traction control, the power of the Ducati engine, the Bridgestones, or just plain luck. But it wasn't.

Marquez is in the same league as Stoner, and Rossi before them. He may have the best qualities of both.

The best description of Marquez may be painted on Pedrosa's and Lorenzo's faces these days.

Fair comment, he is definitely a game changer, and almost certainly the final nail in the coffin for Dani's career. But like I say, a season is a long time. Jorge and indeed Rossi are very clever and experienced riders who can win races and titles. It's going to be interesting. A lot of the Marquez fan club here were saying Jorge was beaten by Pedrosa last year, when it was obvious Lorenzo was playing the points game

It was illegal fuel, dude!  Horsepower in a can.  ;)

You won't see him driving past Pedrosa (also equal machinery) at +10 MPH anytime soon...
