I'm either too young or too yank to get that reference, but that's not the correct response. You, on the other hand, will like this surprise significantly less.

Too young possibly, too yank ? noooo. Google and you will get it

Ahhh...500's.........the most evil, difficult to ride bikes on the face of the planet. no traction control ( before the 2000's) and most of their 230+ bhp developed in a 3500 rpm powerband ( on a good day)

Now that was a true test of a riders abilities !!!

God bless their little blue smoking pipes.

I grew up in the 2 stroke era and liked them plenty, but nothing ever touched my soul like the first time i heard a 4 stroke screamer. By far my favorite era of GP. You might be a tad heavy on the HP side of the 500's. If memory serves me, they were pushing around 190-200 to the rear wheel, but only weighed like 275 pounds. They did have a very small window to make power and when it hit, it hit. Thats why i like the 4 strokes, you can hear and feel them making power from 6k up to around 18k. If you have never been to Indy, it is a religious experience to hear the 4 strokes accelerate from the slow last corner all the way down the tunneled front straight. The rest of the track sucks, but i cant imagine anything in motorsport sounding better than that 7-8 seconds

Yeah, I don't disagree.

The 230+hp was a bhp figure....derived at the engine.....10 to 20% loss through the drive train.

All I miss really, is the fact they didn't have traction control ect.

You had to ride the bloody things via the throttle and ability.

If anyone could put one on the grid.....they were ....-hot.......

I like the 4 bangers, but somehow I'm a 2 banger man.

I don't think they should go back.......although sometimes it makes for an interesting daydream.

Hey.......have you ever heard the Honda 250/6 ?

Now that's a really cool noise !! From a little 250 6 cyl........straight through megaphone pipes.......awesome !!!!! imagine a grid full of this noise !!!!!

here....have a listen.

honda 250/6

and this

watch the audience jump at the end

Just about everyone in this forum wish's for less or no traction control. That would be the best of both worlds for the 2 stroke and the 4 stroke fan.
