Laguna Seca Race Discussions

i'm surprised so many people disliked the race. Lorenzo is so awesome. i can't think of a rider as dominate or as entertaining as him in recent memory.

Of course but there are always 'fans' who complain at anything other than a paint swapping race and totally fail to appreciate the accompishment that domination is. Worse still are the 'fans' who pretend to be into it regardless of the result but when their man doesn't do well try to take focus away from the racing entirely by pointing to politics and 'the state of the sport' as shortfalls instead of addmitting they just weren't happy with the result.

I doubt it... He's a great rider for sure, but that's not enough...

Well it is actually. If Lorenzo carries this form over to next year then the others will be aiming for him every weekend, end of.

I didn't get what you meant. So he will be the man to beat next year, no question, good for him. We'll see how he handles that...

Yes it'll be interesting, as it always is with a new champion. It'll be good to see a number 1 back on the grid after so long, thats for sure. If 250 is anything to go by Lorenzo got much stronger for his second world title. I think he'll probably handle it quite well.

How good is motogp in its present state to sell / renew tv contracts etc..this could be worrying ? if Rossi moves on yes

it shouldnt centre round 1 rider but i bet it will...tv companys might drop motogp like a stone

Deep in the .... is how the TV contracts are. No Brit in MotoGP: BBC unhappy. Rossi injured: Italian TV audiences halved. Yes, you heard that right, dropped by 50%. Spanish TV audiences holding up while Rossi is away, but only because Lorenzo is making everyone else look stupid. If Rossi retires, Lorenzo gets bored and goes off to do something else, and Stoner or Spies take over, TV ratings in Spain plummet too, though not quite as badly as in Italy.

Dorna currently have a 20 million a year deal with TVE, but budget cutbacks mean that TVE is dropping MotoGP in Spain, and it's going to a commercial channel. Probably for a lot less money, though I haven't heard any figures yet. As to how Dorna reacts to developments on the internet, they are barely aware that it exists. The sight of multiple journalists in the media center watching Spanish and Italian streams on Justin TV as Dorna bods walk by unsuspectingly is absolutely hilarious, and points up where they are going wrong.

Dorna has something of a long-term plan. The MSMA are due a kicking, and will have their toys taken away from 2012 on. Dorna will try to put the CRT teams on a level footing with the factory teams for 2012, in the hope of attracting more teams in with a realistic chance of winning. The factory engineers are crapping themselves at the thought of racing against teams with 24 liters of fuel. With more teams, the racing might get a little bit more exciting. But the main problem is one that permeates all professional sports: every generation is better than the last - after all, they've had to do their best to try and match them, which means making fewer mistakes and riding ever more precise lines. Jorge Lorenzo is the embodiment of that, absolutely flawless riding. Not always entertaining, but undeniably fast.

Of course, to recreate the glory years of the early 990s, what we need is .... tires. Bring on Cheng Shin!

He is already a strong favourite (barring misadventure) for next year's title in my view. The year after when he has to develop a new bike might be more testing.

Lorenzo is definitely having a great season. To be able to ride so fast but also so consistently makes for a very well deserved championship.

As for the celebrations and "antics" it's better than nothing I guess and with such a disappointing season excitement wise, I'll take anything that adds something unexpected to these races. But while lorenzo isn't a dead fish like pedrosa, at least he's -trying- to be interesting even though everything he does comes straight out of rossiland. He must be the biggest bopper of them all.

He has a two-color scheme of yellow and blue they call "sun and moon" guess I'll do "angel and devil" and make it red and white.

He does weird on-track celebrations, better find me some mop-top wigs and a moon suit.

He has a number of instantly recognizable "brand" images, so somebody cook me up a circle X logo.

If he keeps the 99 instead of using the #1 plate I think that will be the final straw.

Exactly, same happened in 06 then 07 and early 08 but almost overnight stopped when Rossi began to win again.

Not to sure about that. The general reaction to 06 was good because it was wide open till the end and dramatic. All riders had their ups and downs and i think most of us would say, great season. 07 was quite poorly recieved, but i wouldn't want to seem too negative and say there weren't a few who appreciated what we were witnessing. 2008 was pretty much the same situation with the tables turned, now its happening again

You are right .... I think the 06 dissapointment got lumped into 07

I think at the end of 06 the Boppers were busy telling the Hayden fans to "just wait till next year" ......... "luck" or some "strange twist of fate" seemed the excuse for that short interlude.

Well thats an hour of my life I'll never get back. What a god damn snore fest. And would somebody knock the living .... out of that Rossi wannabe please?

The planned celebrations are just as lame when Rossi does them, can we knock the .... out of him the next time he pulls a stunt.. Act like you have been there boys.

Rossi is no longer the contender for the tile, and suddenly the motogp is in trouble and it becomes too boring to Rossi fanboys. In 2002, the first year for four strokes, the grid size is about the same or even smaller than this year. More manufactures joined from the following year, and the grid size got bigger, but those manufactures come and go, so the motogp`s grid size remains relatively small almost all the time. It may be the transition period now before the motogp goes back to 1,000cc from 2012. F1 has far bigger grid size now, but the level of performances between the top and bottom is so wide, and even the half grid was lapped in Germany. We now have three aliens who can challenge Rossi. It is better than the time Rossi was so dominant and his rivals were not at the same level as he.

About the post celebration act, I hated when Rossi did it too. Some acts were really stupid and looked lame to non Rossi fans.

Absolutely agree, and that piece of nothing wants to take Rossi's place. Earlier I thought Stoner was boring, but now I see how wrong I was.

Was Rossi not an attention whore when he was regularly pulling those stunts. Its called immaturity, and one can only hope that they grow out of it.

Rossi hasn't and he's got almost ten years on Lorenzo

Not a bad race, but it wasn't exciting at the front.

Again Pedrosa showed why he isn't able to beat Horhay in a whole year. I was glad first when he was leading, but then suddenly he crashed.

Stoner did what he could do and brought his bike on podium and scored his best result of this year.

Rossi did a good job too. I thought he would finish this race between 5-8, and it looked so, when he wasn't able to follow Dovi and he had Spies and Hayden behind him, but he recovered later and took back his place from Dovi.

Spies was at p3 after first lap, i didn't see what happend to him, then i saw him on P7 at once, he could have scored a podium easily if he hadn't made those few mistakes, but he has enough time to win LS in future.

Horhay is the man of the moment, and he will get even stonger now that he has more points to play with.

I wish i could go to summer sleep untill Brno. 3 weeks waiting.
