<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (jazkat @ Jul 21 2008, 07:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>your still both not gettin the point, rossi was infront of stoner going into the corkscrew just over shot the corner so he wasnt using it to improve his possition because he was already in front...........

and yes im 28 but not on sundays..........

Yes, but the other part of the rule is the not coming back on track and endangering the other riders. Rossi had to make sure he was not behind Stoner coming into that last section, or Stoner would be gone.
But the way he came back on track could have taken both of them out, which would have been worse for Stoner than Rossi.

Some are, quite correctly in my opinion, saying that Rossi is trying his old tricks of getting on top of his opponents mentally, as he did so well to Gibbers. Although a lot younger, I think Stoner is a little tougher.

Rest of the season has now had another dimension added.

I checked your profile. Surprised to see you claim to be 28.

I think that Barry was making the valid point that if you run off track you are not allowed to improve your position when re-entering, or come back on track endangering other riders.

Bingo Sarto ...... but that photo doesn't really show the whole thing ...... prior to that Rossi came in way too hot and as a consequence took a straight line through the bends ..... it was seat of the pants stuff ...... I flinched on my lounge

and Stoner must have thought his short life was about to end

PS: Anyone know the old record time for picking a Duc. up? ...... I'm pretty sure Stoner beat that too

I think at those kind of speeds and in that short time frame that rule does not apply, some how I can't see Rossi going across the line thinking 'Oh I mustn't stay in front of Stoner because that's against the rules'!

wow they way you pair are talking as if the race had a dam script and rossi forget a few lines.... for sake its a race not a dam tea party....

I think nobody expected Rossi to attack here, against a Stoner who looked from another planet. Surely I didn't. It seemed futile even to think of it.

At the beginning when Vale took the lead I thought that it was just a show of pride on his part, before the inevitable happened and Stoner imposed his superior pace. I was waiting for Stoner's pass--then he would just take off...

I waited, but it didn't happen. Rossi kept his lead like his life depended on it. Slowly it dawned on me... He's actually TRYING to WIN this one!? Naaaah...
<

This race reminded me (as well as many others I guess, including Stoner himself...) why this young man with a funny face has won so many world titles. Winning today took EVERYTHING Rossi has, including the traditional bit of luck, of course. Stoner WAS faster. Rossi was at the very limit all the time.

But he managed to irritate Stoner by keeping him behind,--no dirty tactics IMHO, just a masterful and ruthless application of all the tricks of the trade (and of an immense talent)--until Stoner finally MADE a mistake.

Pity, I would have preferred to see the scrap go on until the last corner, and it could have ended any way. Actually, Stoner would have probably won it if he had kept his cool.

But here is where Rossi has always been an alien--he ENJOYS it. Others get stressed, (understandably!) but not him. Immediately after the race he declared to italian TV "I really had a lot of fun!". He wasn't pretending, you could see he was excited like a little kid.

Pity Stoner expressed some sour feelings afterwards, but that's understandable. He has been squarely beaten at the very race he thought he would win hands down. That's bruising. But Casey is really fast and tough, he kept that throttle open in a furious way and never gave up. The superiority of the Ducati desmo is still there, and he's the only one who can make it visible. The battle for the title is not over...

This is the kind of duel we have been waiting to see between Rossi and Stoner, the two strongest riders in activity. I can only hope we'll see more. Next time it might be Stoner's turn to smile, and maybe Vale's to whine a little.

BEAUTIFUL

So you tell us what other way he could have entered, or for that matter put his bike ANY other place than where it ended?

I'm not disagreeing that he made a mistake but as it is there were no other way to go and luckily it didn't end with anyone crashing. But you will NEVER see a protest comming form Ducati because of that, and that's simply beacuse there is NOTHING to protest against.

I'm sure your right about Rossi thinking that, but they do have those rules for a reason. Otherwise, everybody would be able to go too hot into the corner and think if they can't make it, it is ok to run through the gravel and charge back onto the track with reckless abandon.

Rossi was not going to be penalised, but a lot of riders would have been.

Quote frm Crash : ...

"But the real action between the pair began on lap four, when Stoner retook the lead from Rossi into turn one, only for Rossi to fling his Fiat Yamaha back underneath into Turn Five.

Stoner was back ahead on the run up to the corkscrew, when Rossi again lunged inside - this time running over the dirt as he dived downhill, pushing both riders wide on the exit!"

I'm not so sure it was possible to brake hard coming down hill when off the track, the number one thing rossi must have been thinking about was staying on the bike.

No he has made " I'm not happy mate!" signals safely and visibly to riders ...... thats like saying Rossi's "finger" to Elias was Rossi trying to poke Elias' eye out ...... wake up!

As I see it Rossi made a mistake and got away with it, Stoner made a mistake and paid the price.

That's racing folks, the best man on the day wins.

End of story.

I also think Rossi's body language showed that the last thing he wanted to do was to knock Stoner off. He did do well to keep from doing that.

Of all the tracks in all the world .... for that move, the Corkscrew would just have to be the worst place ......

What's your point BM? I can't see anyone except another disapointed stoner fan agreeing with you about illegal entry.
Besides, if anyone is to be penalized someone usually have to deliver a protest. Let's see if that one ever arrives. What odds do you want for that bet? 1:100?

Touchy?
Not at all. As Rossi so well said it: What incident!
There is nothing there to protest about so it will never arrive from Ducati. Nice isn't it, you are sitting there, grumpy because stoner lost while Ducati agree with the rest of the world. Now that's funny
<

Probably just because they are an Italian company that want Rossi to win the championship.
