LOL small world. Mind you a long way to go for a cuppa ;) but if I go and see an old mate down in Fareham I might well drop by.
I can still taste the bacon and egg butty :D

Zarco good bike or not is having a great kick off to his MotoGP career, great to see. Would love to see him fighting for a win at his home track ...

Miller impressed me during FP1 when he was riding like a maniac ... seeing him pick the front up out of a right hander and keep it until he was kicking his leg out preparing to enter the following left hander .... looked unreal. He was riding like a man possessed ... so damn lucky with his crash in FP4, could have ended so much worse.

I hope he made the right choice by signing with Tech 3 for 2018, already. Maybe everything else was gone. But, honestly, I don't even know if he has an agent, or what his deal is. His timing is a bit off, because if he had entered the game two or three years earlier, I am sure he would be on a factory bike and scoring points. He is fun to watch.

I have liked him since he started making trouble in Moto2. I would luvs to see him get a win on the Tech3. It might be better than Cal winning, because I believe (correct me if I am wrong), that the LCR is closer to the Repsols, than the Tech3 is to the MovieStars. Regardless, I am sure glad he has a ride in MotoGP. He deserves a factory seat, imo.

WOW, he must have Rossi's seat in 2019, with just a bit more practice I can see him giving all the factories a headache :D

Maybe he will take Danny's place, if his contract isn't with Yamaha but T3 then perhaps he's keeping his options open ???

I'm hoping to see backflip soon.

The main seats don't become available until 2019 so 2 years at tech 3 is a good option, Herve is a nice bloke to work for. (IMO)

Note the quotation marks. Saying that, I'd be intrigued to learn which rider(s) you are referring to that have secured championships throwing caution to the wind. Schwantz perhaps?

Out of interest, do you either frequent or own a burger van on the A31?

That Zarco bloke - he will never do any good lol [emoji23]

The original post was citing another members assessment after the opening round, hence the ninja emoji and which is why my reply said note the quotation marks . Where's the "over the head" emoji when I need it? Here's the original post on this thread...

Only to someone without "any working knowledge of the sport. Classic case of a rider on a decent bike with soft tyres and zero chance of a championship throwing caution to the wind" :ninja:

Probably no one with any working knowledge of the sport. It was a classic case of a rider on a decent bike with soft tires and zero title chances throwing caution to the wind. .

My reply...

There was a certain air of inevitability about the outcome, but I find myself disagreeing with Povol's assertion (and I paraphrase) that anyone that didn't see that coming and that this was a classic case of rookie fever in the making knows nothing about racing. Granted Zarco is new to the class and thereby has much to learn about the complexity of a MotoGP bike and the differences in racecraft from Moto2 in particular. And ok, that time he put in so early on lap 4 which turned out to be the fastest of the race was perhaps inviting danger. But sod the cynicism - I thought it was ....... great.

So yeah, he gambled on the soft rear, but given the abridged race and his smooth style, as it actually that much of a reckless choice? and the stakes were low - nothing to lose. I fully expected him to not only finish the race but possibly podium. It was only when he ran a few inches wide at the notoriously lethal turn two on lap seven - which has historically randomly, arbitrarily and unfairly punished more riders than Paul bloody Butler - that it was game over.

Zarco has admitted that he was pushing hard, but attributes the problem to relaxing and letting off slightly which as we have seen so many times can catch you out. I am certain that he will podium this year and even win a few races during his tenure at T3. He's clever, he can race hard and the M1 is very conducive to his style. Not often I agree with Huewen, but it dd present the quandary that you wanted the rookie to win...but on the other hand, he's French. (Excuse the xenophobia and obligatory UK stereotypical view).

I was very optimistic about Zarco's prospects coming into the class having followed his career closely since his first win in 125cc in 2011. Big fan.

He can you not like Zarco? Fast, super aggressive and he normally gives insightful answers in press conferences and interviews.

Good looking, too. And he speaks French. Wait ...... I think I am straight.

I have been a fan for a couple of years. Him beating Vinales and Rossi is just ....:
First it's with the '16, now with the '17. OMG, I can hardly wait till he beats them on the '18, too. I never believed the Vinales story. And Rossi eating crow, is well, just sweet sometimes. (No offense to you NICE Rossi fans.)

Crutchlow and Miller are the only ones who can make an impression with satellite machinery, and their stuff is the same year as the Repsol. The talent coming out of Moto2 is more suited for MotoGP than the 250s, imo. While we still have good racers, like JLo, Pedobot, and Rostifarian from the old school, those 600s with the same engines, really put the onus on the riders to outperform the average bear. Marquez and Zarco are excellent examples of the future of MotoGP.

I reckon you should have a rethink about the straight bit.....

"After the second and final day of official MotoGP testing at Valencia...

...Johann Zarco (+0.406) continues to amaze. Despite a crash and having closed 0.003 behind Pedrosa, the Frenchman already seems to be as one with the 2017 M1, even able to put Maverick Vinales (5th, +0.607) and Valentino Rossi (7th +0.691) behind him." :buba:

Too bad that he joined MGP relatively late. Hopefully he'll shown some signs of durability, he's a very exciting rider

Maybe we get too caught up in age, maybe the factories do as well. Doohan started in the 500s late was dominant into his 30s. There's no reason to believe Zarco can't continue strong form to the same age I feel he has the equipment and from what I understand there is no biological reason why other riders can't do as well.

Not to mention the 38 year old who is faster than 80% of the grid and still continues to get podiums and the occasional win. ;)
