By Mat Oxley...vive le Zarco
http://http://www.motorsportmagazine.com/opinion/motogp/vive-le-zarco

"Zarco reminds me of me when I arrived in MotoGP,” grins Márquez. “He is really aggressive, he pushes to the limit and sometimes he nearly crashes. This is the way to learn, you need to push, so he’s working in a good way.”

Christian Sarron who took the 250cc world title in 1984 and won a 500cc GP the following year:
“Johann is ambitious and he’s a fighter. Also, he always questions himself. If he gets a bad result he doesn’t blame the bike or the settings. He will say, I didn’t ride well, or I need to change something in the way I ride. He always accuses himself, not the bike. Many other riders will say they didn’t feel confident with the bike, there’s something wrong with the settings. Zarco reminds me of the Americans and Australians I raced against – Wayne Rainey, Kevin Schwantz and Mick Doohan: don’t worry about the bike, I’ll race it as hard as I know how!”

His mentor Laurent Fellon says: " Zarco used his smoothness in Moto2 as an asset. He looked after his tyres better than his rivals, which gave him devastating speed, especially at the end of races."

Or like Boris say's: 'Zarco fight's like a badger on meth'.

Johann himself: “The best way to control the pressure that I will feel at Le Mans is to enjoy every moment, live in the present and appreciate our work,”

Go Johann go...
go and get your first podium...

Johann Z.:

“I want motorcycling to be less anonymous in France because it’s an incredible sport […] My six laps in the lead in Qatar made more impression than my two World Championships in Moto2™. And then there was my attack on Rossi in Texas…”

Regarding the episode at the Circuit of the Americas with Valentino Rossi, Team Manager Poncharal fully supports his protégée: “What Valentino said about Johann is a form of initiation. I said to Johann that if you behave like a B-class rider, you will remain one. You must make yourself respected.”

The article also looks at the character of, in the words of Coach Laurent Fellon, ‘the rider who’s climbed the steps one by one’. Other than the determination on one side of Zarco’s character, Guy Coulon also describes a unique personality:

“Not since Olivier Jacque have we had so much interest, and Johann deals with that very well. He wants to revive the sport in France. We weren’t wrong about him and every day we find out a bit more about him. The other night at the team barbecue, he sat down at the piano and played Michel Berger. The guy is a real original and he has a good mindset.”

what I admire about Zarco:
1. His first 6 laps in Qatar, mindblowing.
2. His blinded colour eye when he shut his helmet visor.
3. He has the potential to driving Valentino Rossi crayyyzeeee

Strange/interesting/peculiar that now he is fast from the word go...while in Moto2 he was famous for his tire preservation skills and was especially fast towards the end of races.

Only to someone without "any working knowledge of the sport. Classic case of a rider on a decent bike with soft tyres and zero chance of a championship throwing caution to the wind" :ninja:

Well we've seen a fair few of them over the years who seem to have done rather well - there seems to be a fair few on the current grid doing exactly this week in week out. Some have even won championships doing
It.

Note the quotation marks. Saying that, I'd be intrigued to learn which rider(s) you are referring to that have secured championships throwing caution to the wind. Schwantz perhaps?

Out of interest, do you either frequent or own a burger van on the A31?

As I've said elsewhere Zarco should get Rossi's seat, as IMO he will more than likely be the number 1 rider there on his ability.

I expect we will see him win at least 1 race this year.

Shades of Norick Suzuka 1994?

No no no no...he will 'grow up' this weekend...preserve his tire's like he use to...hang with the front group...and then BANG (no, not crash) take the win in the last part of the race.
His brain must be going 500km/h right now, working it all out...:buba: :boxing: :dots:
'You wait...'

...and he will dedicate his win to Nicky (whose birthday is 14 days after Johann's on 30.july).

Have to admit that I am a hard ....... when it comes to supporting riders that aren't Aussies (small town syndrome and all), but Zarco is fast becoming the rider that is the 2nd favourite.

Haven't seen huge amounts but I like the style, the seeming aggression and attitude of 'I dont care who the .... you are but I belong here as much as you'.

Good to see the brashness, now to see the racecraft.

If what I have seen so far is not hobbled in some way, he may become Tech3 first MotoGP race winner this season

Zarco is riding a damn good bike, and as someone said he has skill, balls, and nothing to lose. But he's no Stoner, so better hold the Marseilleuse and wait a bit more. Pressure now is building really quick on him, it is to be seen how he copes with it.
