Is now the time to march Dani to the gallows?

More solid than Hondas No 1 guy in 2012 too....

That 2012 No 1 guy will always have 2 premier class championships though Talps, whilst barring injury to MM poor old Dani looks like he will never have even one. I would be interested to see him on a Yamaha though, it might suit him.

They should keep Dani at the number 2 spot, hopefully he will be leading the championship at some point and MM can take him out just like Dani did to Hayden lol.  But seriously, who is really a better number 2 at this point.  Dani had his chance for all these years and now look at the place he is in.  Hayden won even with the Dani-torpedo incident, Stoner comes in wins, MM is there as a rookie whoopin up...yeah, Dani is done in another year in my opinion.  If he stays as a number 2 well he may have a few years left.  But if Dani feels he is up for a championship run, he won't be on a honda too much longer.  Suzuki anyone?

Good post, agree.

The thing for me is all these peeps keep saying he's a great rider because he keeps getting close to wining a title, bla bla bla while people on HIS bike keep wining it.  Why do people insist he is worthy to stay at HRC, and worse, conclude he is a top 3 rider if all we have ever seen of him is compete on the best and zero to show for it?  .... him, send his ... to next year's CBR.1 and let him "prove himself" like they are doing with Redding, this way we can see if he really is determined to get back up to a prototype.  Give his bike to Redding, who has shown fire, desire, and an ability to 'adjust' his approach to contend.  What adjustment has Pedro made?  None.  Still rides around hoping the title will magically appear.  Funny but it has in a way, after Lorenzo got hurt, it was his title to lose.  And guess what, he has found a way to lose it.  His rookie teammate can multi-task, attempting Dexter on unsuspecting marshals while still pressing for a win, Pedro on the other hand is still stuck on Queer is Folk.

Don't like to agree with juNkie but I do on this one....

Where's Levi ????

Who knows, Dani could get a whif of kickin' arse up and down the track, be battle hardened and a proven winner on a consistent basis.  But then again, potential isn't anything until it is realized.  I just don't think the kid has the stones to be champ in this world, maybe in bizarro world, but for our present reality, it aint gonna happen.  Look at Lorenzo and MM.  Their attitude is really the same.  Stick ole sour puss Stoner in there, and they are triplets.  Pedrobot isn't of that ilk, he just doesn't have what it takes week in and week out.  Sure he is fast, but so is Randy Depuniet when he feels like it.  Rossi man, he has it all and a fun attitude as well, he is just past his prime.

Another good post.

I guess they all cant be world champs. Some are just destined to be world chimps.

I gotta agree with this too.

There are no .... riders at this level and all deserve some respect from us experts but Dani has had a pretty decent run on a pretty decent piece of kit and he has won races. But I just don't get the impression that this is a guy who can grab a championship by the scruff of the neck and dominate it.

Not sure that he's quite got that little bit of extra fire in his belly needed at motogp level

I dont think its time yet...honestly i never liked him until he crashed in australia last year...now i feel sorry for him...he never seems to have any luck.  Wonder how much of the Marquez koolaid HRC dishes out each day

No question Dani can ride a bike.  Look at where the guy finishes, but still it is never quite enough.  Just like sometimes it takes that all important one point to win the championship, does he have that extra little bit to sneak it out?  I don't think so.  There may have been a race or two where he looked like HE wanted the race win and got it.  But everything up until now looks like MM wants it.  Look at the crazy or sorta hairbrained stuff that MM is doing.  It isn't out of total ignorance rather just sheer bit between the teeth.  All that kid sees is win.  All Pedro sees is hmmmm if I stay here then....where is that killer instinct.  Now I know I am gonna catch hell for this but, Hayden still has it, you can see it in his frustrations.  I would even say he has it a bit more than Rossi...him huggin MM and making nice nice with him lol.  OH well.

In other words, u got to "want it". U speak truth man. Spot the .... on.

Speaking of "want it", I don't know how much influence Pete Benson has on teams he s works for, but he has worked with two kids who displayed a real fierce desire to do whst it takes to win. Perhaps not the most talented, but willing to put in the work, adapt, and make the most of their situation; even in the face of a League obsessed with a rival. Mr. Benson is poised to usher in another underdog into a title.

....sadly, history repeating just like Nicky, Mr. Benson's understudy will be rewarded with an uncompetitive machine for the year following a championship.

Still me Jum.  But you would think at this point in his career anyone can see the writing on the wall.  I love GP, but this whole Spanish invasion, E V E R Y race is getting old.  We need some other guys from other lands to shake it up.  MM is the real deal, not my fav, never will be, unless he is on a Duc, but right now the championship is so lopsided for being a "world championship".  I just want anyone else to be winning a race or ten.  Love to see Cal, love the personality and the drive, same with Nicky, but it seems like the series is losing credibility more and more by turning it into the spanish championship..whooopeeee.  There, is that more RG01ish for ya?  lol

In a discussion about Dani's 'lack of success', how many times can you guys bring up references to Nicky "1.7%" Hayden? It's 2013 guys, please do try to move on.

In a discussion about Dani Padrosa, Nicky is simply part of his history. Deal with it or move along.

I wonder if Pedro is mentally ...... from watching MM and CS ride up close and personal. We hear about how great they are from other riders and journos , even Rossi has spoken highly of CS's riding, and Pedro must obviously also be able to see it. If I was to watch MM or CS ride I may not recognize exactly what I'm seeing, but I'm sure someone like Pedro who has spent an entire life on a race bike understands the disparity in talent and maybe it makes it easier for him to settle.

The rest of the field must be about ready to neck themselves then.

Hyperbole much? Haha I think what Hawk is saying is that it must be a bit demoralizing for Pedro to see yet another teammate beating him (3 by my count, Stoner, Marc, ...and that other guy). Did u watch Jlos reaction at Brno and after qual this weekend? He appeared a bit miffed, commentaries described it as demoralized. Its not a stretch for Hawk to correctly speculate Pedro has also felt this frustration, and affected his approach what imo is a mentaly suspect Pedro. Have u ever heard a commentary say, the leader "may have broke" the field? Hes not suggesting the following riders are considering suicide. The suggestion is that the following riders have resigned themselves. An attribute so far foreign to Marc, and by Lorenzo's determination not to settle for second at Silverstone. Pedro was able to make up time on the leaders but when he got there he held station. Ok lets say he burned up his tires getting there (which I personally do NOT buy given his lap times when he caught Marc). But let me put it to u another way, had Marc caught up to Pedro, spent tires or not, do u think he would have at least shown a wheel to Pedro? Maybe not the torpedo of old given surely they spoke to him about propery passing his teammate ofter he almost went up his ... early in the season, but he definitely would have attempted a move. That there is the difference.

Pedro has talent, ain't no doubt about it... Trouble is he can't seem to focus it over an entire season. We all know that he probs should have one at least one championship by now & unless something drastic happens, the only record that Pedrosa will take in the future is the "best to never win a championship" off Randy Mamola!

Gotta say that despite never being a huge fan of Jorge... The ....... is earning some serious respect from me over the last 12 months... A hard racer, that really never gives up. Between riding after injury & his determination at Silverstone I have to grudgingly tip my hat to the man... That said I would still consider that like Casey Stoner before him, Marquez just has that slight edge in sheer speed & mongrel attitude... Seriously, MM is almost like a CS mark 2, except that he doesn't seem to piss peeps off with random comments (as much)... Roll on the rest of the year!

Haha, yeah well you know what I mean. But seriously, when your someone like say Bradley Smith in the first few rounds of the season, there must be a few moments in qualy when you are on what you thought was a hot one and then Pedrosa or Lorenzo rounds you up like you're standing still and you think ".... me sideways what the hell am I doing here".

Actually I get that feeling everytime I do a trackday.

It's only Jorge's off track antics that are depressing. He should stop trying to out Rossi Rossi with his green snake and mohawk schemes. He should just enjoy himself without gimerickery and silliness. People are not dumb and they will respond if he just enjoys the racing and is pleasant to be around. Word will spread quickly - look at the millions MM has snagged already.

I will say this.  Back in 2002 I was at Daytona sitting in the back of a former AMA superbike champs truck drinkin some beers.  A childhood hero of mine  and I am just chillin like two regular guys.  I asked him, what is that difference especially when you're both talented and on pretty much the same machine.  He honestly said to me who wants it the most.   I was like that's it?  Yep, just who wants it that much more.  Now you would think that it is that self evident.  You would think it is that easy to see but we usually turn to all these other factors like the bike, this, that, etc.  But seriously, all he said was who wants it the most.  Who is willing to push it that extra bit.  True story.  Heck, he even offered his R1 at the time for me to run it at the Daytona track.  Sadly I didn't do it since we had moved out of FLA.  I do regret that.  But hey I got to chill with a champ and that was awesome.  I might post pics if I ever get a chance.
