Is now the time to march Dani to the gallows?

The third dimension
I have noticed a lot of mixed comments about Dani Pedrosa in some of the other threads. Therefore, I thought a dedicated thread on his recent performances would be warranted.

Personally, I thought Dani showed us his best season last year. I do realise that Dani didn't have to compete with a fully motivated Stoner last year. Therefore, some of his results may have been enhanced by that fact. But still, he rode well enough to worry an in-form and fully motivated Lorenzo for a decent portion of the year. And in my opinion, Lorenzo has never ridden so well.

So, with Stoner completely gone, and having a rooky as his team-mate, I thought this year would be Dani's best shot at the title, as long as he could maintain that winning confidence from 2012, and provided Honda could deliver a bike that had the edge on the M1.

Two races in, and Dani has failed to beat his team-mate. And quite disturbingly, from my armchair, it appeared his rooky team-mate wasn't even riding to his maximum. It does appear that Marquez is speedily becoming MotoGp's new giant (no ironic pun on Dani intended). But for this to happen to Dani so early in the season, surely the guy is worried.

Was he riding conservatively with the championship in mind? Was it merely the incorrect tyre choice that lost him the race in Texas? Will we see him fight back in Europe? Or is Dani done and dusted?

Good idea, yes he did show his best last year and i expected him to start where he left off,you maybe correct that he is thinking long term but i am not convinced,i keep hearing about the tyre issue but when the BBC were at park ferme they said Danny's tyre looked better than Marks but if is as you say and he chose the wrong tyre it just goes to show how mature and intelligent Mark is and after all these years Danny still makes bad choices,if he does not deliver this year he needs to be replaced for an up and coming rider.

They should dump/hang/chop everyone but Marky, Pedro Lorenzo, Dovi, Mr Crutchlow   ..... dare I say it Rossi ............. that is all.

Stoner is no longer but you still use his name,Pedro on any other bike would be back with the also rans however some of those also rans on a factory Honda would be contenders,Danny has been flattered by many years on the best bike its time for a change.

Who would you replace him with?

Beware ..... I'm pretty sure I'm gunna laugh.

The fastest of the rest is Cal,Dovi has had his chance so there is no other realistic option, and your'e laughter just shows your'e lack of understanding of how MGP works within its media platform,Cal is becoming big media news world wide and whilst Dorna is a spanish company that openly supports its national riders they are not stupid, they have the home market sown up with Mark and no matter what Danny does it will not increase, Rossi is a world wide market filler and Dorna love him for that,Cal is a key to expanding the UK and vast ex pat market thus creating serious revenue,as i said Dorna are far from stupid.

WTF!! Cal is on a better bike already ........

I'm not laughing, but I still think Pedro would always have a better outcome than Cal.

Barry you maybe correct on the outcome point but it is far deeper, in the early 90s WSB was a lowly world championship in the UK with very small viewing figures on tv and at track side, then Fogarty came along started winning and the track side figures got to 130.000 + at there peak and eurosport and sky got into bidding wars for the rights to show WSB,Fogarty became headline news on mainstream news broadcasts and was nominated for UK sports personality more than once ,not since Sheen had this happened,The Ducati 916 and its varients dominated the UK sport bike market for years, now Cal is on the verge of replicating this if he gets the exposure a factory seat in MGP gives,as the hosting tracks in the UK have been very nervous about Dornas fees putting Cal on a factory seat with all the support and hype this generates is a no brainer,As i said Dorna have spain sown up but the UK is perfect for the picking and they are a bright company.

How about you? I mean you ARE better than Stoner right? :D :D

Dani appears to be a much happier, relaxter person since he's no longer the clear lead rider. I don't think he's particularly worried at this stage, he knows the season is long. He's definitely riding for the championship, not for race wins. I think he has a good shot at it, but not as good as last year. This is because with Rossi replacing Spies, Dani has one additional factory bike likely to finish in front of him on those days when things are just not working for him. At the moment, I'd say its 60% Lorenzo, 30% Pedrosa, 10% Rossi or Marquez for the championship.

Only one person has beaten his rookie team-mate so far, does that make them all .....? And the one that did beat him, the current world champion, got put into third place by none other than Pedrosa himself.

I stick by my statement - two races in, one a sandy mess and the other a track no-one had raced at before is too early to be making rash statements about any rider.

And yes, I think Pedrosa and Lorenzo took the points, rather than battle in uncertain conditions and potentially end up injured.

Pedrosa and Marquez swapped places and ran out the race on two different tyres. It seems that Marquez chose the right tyre for Austin. I'll bet he's glad he inherited Stoner's crew, no?

That level of 'unknown' won't be the case from Jerez on - they know the track conditions and the tyre selection criteria down to the last degree. I say give them a chance to bed the season in.

And take this chance to say, I hate that Qatar and Austin are the season openers. Actually, I just hate Qatar, the country as well as the track. It's a sandy ........ full of miserable non-drinking dudes in white sheets - like a Baptist revival in Alabama.

That's because the alternative involved watching soccer... I'd rather poke out my eyes with a hot needle.
