I think he will fight for the title but anyway it would be very nice to watch him against the current Jorge Martin who looks unbeatable, on equal terms. However, let's not fool ourselves. On the beginning of the next season MM will be already 31 yo. That 5 to 6 years difference can be enough to cost him 0.1 to 0.2 seconds per lap.
Aleix Espargaró is in his best moment ever at 34. Bautista is bossing WSBK at 39. Age is not the career ending stat that it was before. Riders take care of their body more than ever, and if we go to F1, we can see a guy like Alonso (42) who is still sharp in his reaction times.

Trust me, I'm rooting for him to win the title next yr! I just don't want to get my hopes up!
My hopes are high, but I am a realist if it doesn't happen it doesn't take away from his career and the great rider he is/was. One thing I know about Marc is he will give it his all.

This years Germany GP changed Mark for the better. He realised that he can’t keep trashing his body with nothing to gain.
He got away from Julian and moved out with Alex, got a girlfriend, and decided on a new direction.
He hasn’t got any slower or lost his determination to win, he will be riding the same bike that Pecco and Martian are on now, the red mist will return, and will out ride both of them.

He will have no troubles adapting to the 23 Ducati, and barring accidents will win the 24 Championship, and in 25 he will be open to offers to take the best bike and team, wither it is the new KTM (MV AUGUSTA) team, or a revived Honda team, to take another Championship for that team, then retire.

This is what I think as well. The documentary on Amazon was a great look inside his life. I gave me a chance to see him for who he is. He is who I thought he was. Someone who wants to win and will do whatever it takes to do it. He is always willing to adapt. I think he still has the edge to allow him to dominate.

Mick Doohan won his last title at age 33 with a bung leg. Valentino won the 7th/9th at age 30, and I think Ago won the 8th title Rossi was so keen to match or exceed In mid 30s as well.(EDIT also at age 33).

Though we will never know but would Rossi have had the same success when he left Honda had he done so without Burgess?
The yamaha was terrible when Rossi jumped on it so it required a lot of dev, Marc will do just fine without his crew as bike is already good and so is Marc. He will be fav for title in my humble opinion. Should be exciting to watch

The previous Yamaha was terrible before his advent, but Yamaha had finally built a proper 990 bike which was available to him when he got there. Perhaps apocryphally they reputedly offered him different versions and he chose the one with the best combination of characteristics, particularly rideability, which was the one Yamaha thought was best as well,. I think he would have been fine without Burgess, given he nearly won a title at age 36 in 2015 without him.
 
I also feel strongly that if Marc is running at the front, Ducati may be open to giving the customer bike updates.
This thought as also crossed my mind. Under the rules they can't change the engine and I think there's a limit of 2 faring changes but everything else can be changed as often as they want, in particular the chassis.

Having said that I suspect that Marc will focus on getting the most out of the existing bike rather than developing it.

I agree. It is said he wants to get back to enjoying riding, which is why this move makes sense.
He will have no development to worry about, just hopping on a bike we know is competitive and with a years worth of data to rely on.
 
Top 3 for mine but will not pick the exact spot.

Simple for me is that he has not lost his ability and going to a new challenge will reinvigorate any appetite for victory and result but for me, it will all come down to how long it takes to settle onto the bike and in to the team. Mond you, the team aspect I suspect is not going to be that difficult due to his brother and perhaps we also under-estimate the role played in the decision by Alex.
 
What's left for 2024
1. Gresini Ducati. We are assuming its M Marquez, just awaiting announcement
2. Repsol Honda. I'm assuming that their prime objective is to get a rider who can best help with development. Talk is about Iker and Olivera. Would Olivera need to break his contract or is there a clause that lets you join a factory team?
3. Replacement for whoever Repsol Honda gets
 
while I am pulling for Marq next season, there are still a lot of variables.. Whats the team going to look like as far as mechanics and engineers? how much support will he get from Ducati? Will there be additional developments for the GP23? I would speculate that the better he does on the Ducati the more support he will receive from Ducati.

Mainly depends on the bike imo. If the relativity of the 1 year old bike is similar to this year ie Bezzecchi able to win 3 races on it then he will give it a shake Imo. If the 2024 bike is significantly better then Martin for one will be hard to beat. I see Bagnaia still throwing his bike down the road enough for Ducati not to overly rely on him.

I suspect that even Ducati doesn't know what its going to do.

If a situation occurs where its M Marquez vs someone who isn't on a Ducati for the championship occurs would Ducati throw resources at Gresini?
