Well the spanish fans were giving full on support to riders that the English fans couldn't identify. The Spanish interest in 125 and 250 champiosnhips is well known and as a result the average fan has a more in-depth knowledge of whats going on. Obvious within that there are more and less knowledgble people, just as there are in england but the pattern is there.

Thats fine, the spanish fans passion for 125 and 250cc racing, their excellent history and current armada of strong riders coupled with the huge amount of spanish sponsorship can mean nothing to you. I don't really mind

As in more likely to know who the riders are, where they came from, and how the championship stands. Stuff like that

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Jul 8 2008, 08:45 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>There was a VERY noticable differnce between the fans i shared donington park with and the fans i shared Silverstone with. Silverstone was far more of a pleasant atmosphere and snob or not you'd know what i meant if you were there.Rather interesting given your comments about Spanish Moto GP fans. Didn't Spanish F1 fans recently give someone a hard time?

Could it possibly be that people are the same the world over?

So you reckon that there's a lot of Donington racegoers who pay about £60 for GA on race day or £80 for the weekend and don't know who the riders are?

Haven't been to Donny for a couple of years but when I was last there, as far as I could tell without walking round with a clipboard asking people if they had a clue what was going on, most people were there to watch the racing and support their favourite riders.

My main gripe last time was the bloody airhorns. Couldn't hear the bikes at all which, for me, rather spoilt the spectacle. That, coupled with the rain (often a feature, even when I went every year
<
) and the ..... facilities (always bad, but there didn't used to be so many people trying to use them) has made me less inclined to make the trip.

I agree that there are a lot more fanboys than there were in the 80s when I used to watch the Transatlantics or in the 90s for the 500s, but then the average crowd was probably nearer 20,000 than the current 60,000+. It's all part of the price of becoming more big business a la F1. Mind you, at least it means that there are still races to watch, even if the live experience is less about a group of like-minded people watching some bikes on a wet Easter Sunday. The world turns.

I'd still expect that even the fanboys know who the main protagonists are though.

ok.

the reason they know more about the lower classes is because they are packed (the lower classes, not spaniards) with spanish riders, probably because they are the leaders in the quality of national 125 & 250 championships.

yet, their success in the top class is very limited given the number of riders they have..so it is obvious the spanish crowds would look to where they are successful.what i cant understand is the rationale behind you insinuating that they know more because they are spanish.
arguably you could then say that the british know more about WSB because they are british...
see how ....... stupid that sounds?

<

Perhaps it could also be because Dorna is Spanish, Spain gets mucho coverage with dedicated magazines &...trading cards
<
I believe.

good posts goatboy ,yamaka46 and bigAl.

Oh don't think Tommy can help it. He changes opinions like he does favorite riders. I think he's having trouble keeping his biases straight.

You are one of a very few that I've ever heard mention the Transatlantics. That was pretty cool. (I suspect a few will access their google cards now).
