Formula 1 2008

First of I would like to say congratulations to Lewis Hamilton, 2008 World Champion
<

Also congrats to Fellipe, did everything right and has to be the unluckiest south american since Barrichello. Cannot believe how close it got in the end, and for this I have to say a big thank you to the FIA. Without their constant blunderings none of this would have been possible!
So, to next year. I think obviously we will see the likes of the Ferraris and McClarens at the front, but there is also Alonso, Vettel, and Kubica to consider. Maybe the Honda will finally come good after a two year development? Red Bull and Torro Rosso, all improving, even the Force India are rumoured to be getting McClaren backing.

Thoughts.....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Nov 3 2008, 02:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Messed up? How did he mess up, he was calm, collected and mature. Did what he had to do. Can you imagine the backlash if he'd got red mist and put it in the hedge chasing Vettel, only to watch on as glock slowed down on the last lap! Lewis did everything right, and his entire appraoch, driving style and attitude is now justified.
When Massa crossed the line, and Lewis was behind Vettel, I thought, and so did 99% of the other people, Lewis AGAIN lost the title, even when he had a 7 point lead going into the last race. So at that moment, I was like: I cant believe he messed up again. You can say he did everything well till the last corner, but I think he could have finished higher. Normally he does, but like last season, and also this season showed, when it matters, he doesn't drive like he usually does, and I actually think that is the approach he needs (a bit more aggressive, and not so scared, but I can understand it of course), its part of him....but in the end it didn't matter. He overtook Glock, he finished 5th, and that was just enough to seal the deal. Well done to him. Like I said on another forum, yesterday might not have been super convincing, but overall, Lewis was convincing, and that's what matters in the end.

Felipe lost out by one point, like Lewis did last season. What makes it even more bitter for the Brazilian is, he couldn't have done a better job this weekend. He gave it his all, he took pole, he won the race, set fastest lap...what else could he have done??? Lewis needed to finish at least in 5th position. Normally you'd think he'd finish on the podium, but he did what he had to, and that's finish in 5th place. Too bad for Massa, but hey, there's always next year! I'm not too sure what to think of next year. Normally you'd say Ferrari and Macca will be the usual suspects, with Renault being close I think, and same goes for BMW, but I actually think Renault will be a bigger danger than BMW. I really hope so, because I would love to see Fernando challenge for the title. By the way, his 2nd place finish was again a very good result. He really showed his class this season. I also hope Vettel has a good car, I really like him, and I think the guy is a future champ. Whatever will happen, I hope my favourite will do a better job than he did this season, but I guess that won't be too hard
<

Fernando and Kimi challenging for the title would suit you then? What a tricky decision that would be for you to choose surely?

Why tricky???

I think the title fight will be between Lewis, Kimi, Alonso and also Felipe! But I guess it's too early to say things like this. Let's wait and see what will happen the next 5 months.

Thought they were both your favorites, meant it would be hard to choose which one you would want to win.

Ooooh...I see....

Well, NO! I'm only a Kimi Raikkonen supporter. I have a lot of drivers that I like, for example Vettel, Kubica, Lewis (yes, you read it right
<
), Alonso and also Massa actually! But I only have one absolute favourite, and that's Kimi. I do think FA is the best driver of F1 though, and I say that very often, so maybe that made you think I supported him too..?

I just want to see the best driver in F1 challenge for the WDC, so I want Alonso to have a better car next year..maybe I shouldn't wish that, because it'll be harder for Kimi to win then

I think with all the changes next year (slicks, electric passing motor? etc) it is going to be much closer. It is also the best year for a long time for teams to level the playing field a little maybe. We could see someone other than the top four win the WDC. But then again the cream always rises to the top.

I think new technical eras tend to spread the field out between those who got it right, and those who got it wrong. CLoseness is often a result of having enough stability to allow the teams to eventually arrive at approximately the same level. Think motogp 01-02, or 06-07.

A few corners before that Hamilton had no grip.
Apparently Glock's last lap time was better than Trulli's who was also on the dry tyres. No conspiracy there then.

BTW Kubica passed both Vettel and Hamilton, not Glock. Kubica was unlapping himself at a point in the race when that was never going to lead to more points for him, and he compromised Hamilton's line in so doing, allowing Vettel an easy pass.

I found Kubicas driving quite odd at that point in the race, i don't really understand what he was aiming for. As for the Glock thing, there is no reasonable motive or evidence to suggest he let anyone past.

Sis, you have to remember that the race was shown in my side of the world at an ungodly hour. plus, i've been working the whole day, so it's understandable that i slept several times during the race, though, as i've said, it's not my fault. i said i would LISTEN to the race, how would i know i would fall asleep?!

Yeah that was strange for Kubica. When I watched again the video last night, it looked like LH was running wide due to the unlapping Kubica then Vettel coming in. LH should have drive better than that when it was still dry to get away from Vettel. But lady luck was not on Massa side and I am pity for him.

He is good mates with Massa

i would agree it's odd. even the commentators were surprised by what he had done. i guess he was lost and could not think clearly at that moment because he knows he has lost third place over-all to rakka.

I thought he and Lewis were pretty frirendly, but maybe he is closer to Massa. The only thing i could think of was that if he unlapped hismelf he would be able to complete the final lap, and hope for some retirements to get points. Except when he passed Lewis Massa was on the home straight, and there was no shortage of finishers so points were a seriously long shot.

And Glock's got a nice new Merc parked on his driveway
<

Seriously gripping race, to a season that saw 7 different winners, yes felt sorry for Massa but Lewis deserved it in the end, and hopefully his Pussycat Doll attends more races in the future
