On a serious note, gutted for Folger. They already know he won’t recover for the season? Can’t be good.

Caramello wouldn’t allow Casey or JLo any where near that ride.
Not without installing one of VR’s mechanics into the team....just in case [emoji1]
 
They should have just bought Stefan Bradl out of his test rider contract.
Herve’s principles only stop him from poaching riders with a racing contract, right?

Exactly. It seems like this move has more to do with moving Adam Norrodin into moto2 as he is the better talent. I would rather have seen tech3 sign him. Wait which one almost won Sepang?

It's a perfect deal. Tech3 don't need two fast riders. They have the fast Zarco and now Syarin, which bring money into the team. It couldn't get any better for Tech3.
 
Yea, I have heard mention of the Sepang consortium paying Herve to have the Malaysian rider in GP. The payoff will payoff in spades in ticket sales later this year. Not a bad choice considering there wasn’t going to be a rider who could compete. Either way he was going to have a backmarker but at least he is getting paid .
 
I don’t know if any of you have seen the most recent interview with Herve but he keeps saying that Folger is no longer sick that he has some sort of mental block about getting hurt or something. He says he told Jonas that if he didn’t ride this year his GP career was likely over and Jonas says he knows.

Herve said, that Folger doesn't have the Gilbert syndrome, he is just having a huge burnout. For sure, JF career is over. No one could justify to hire JF in the future because no one knows if he will not leave some day again.

It'd be quite a shock if he does ok and would most certainly get really huge audiences in SE Asia, something to rival Spain perhaps. Only difference being I think the Asians have a better education.

SHOCK? You don't follow Moto2 do you? Syahrin will not be an embarrassment he will learn the bike and improve.

Sepang already sells out...

Buriram will sell out with or without Syahrin...

I admire pretty much anyone with the balls to race bikes fast, but anyone no matter their capacity to do so who decides they no longer want to do it/their heart is no longer in it particularly at this level should stop imo, cf Wayne Rainey who has more or less said he was feeling that way and should have stopped himself.

Yes I do follow it and yes he's done quite well, but, not everyone translates well to motogp. Personally I wish him well he's a nice guy.

Me too, all MotoGP riders past or present deserve every respect for doing what they do.
Rainey was struggling with Yamaha’s insistence that he run the ‘93 factory frame, that he said was terrible. Some think it was to blame for his terrible accident. After that Yamaha won nothing until Valentino joined them, their lesson with Rainey seemed to have taught them a lesson, as they have listened to their riders ever since. They certainly seemed to give Valentino and Burgess everything they wanted, and Lorenzo after that.
 
To be fair, the Roman Emperor did bring them some success between those two eras, but he spent 99% of the time complaining how everyone else got better bikes.

I am not an admirer of Valentino's off track maneuvering of recent years obviously, but the guy has balls of steel cf the late 2010 Yamaha race win so soon after the horrible leg fracture and Mick Doohan acknowledging he had proved to have more endurance than Mick himself, and he has been an advocate of and contributor to rider safety over his entire career including causing very little in the way of significant injuries to other riders by mistakes of his over such a long career (one fractured leg and one foot injury iirc), and so does Jorge for that matter. (EDIT I don't recall the interview with Rainey absolutely precisely, but it was in recent years and I don't think he blamed Yamaha, more that he had been feeling generally bad about things that year.)

Maybe if it rains. He had two podiums last year , both in the rain. Can’t remember him getting close to a dry podium. Herve didn’t have many choices kind of feel sorry for him. Sponsors will probably be wanting some money back when the bike is running 23rd every race.
